NordVPN Review 2022: Is This VPN Actually That Effective?

NordVPN is an all-rounder affordable VPN service with around 5,400+ servers suited for P2P, Netflix, and overall security. Find out if it's worth getting in this updated NordVPN review 2022.

Editor's Rating

Without a single doubt, NordVPN is 100% worth getting for securing your online privacy, online data protection, and for overcoming different barriers imposed on your cyberspace in the form of geo-restricted content and ISP throttling to name a few.

But what makes NordVPN so special? Why is it way more famous than other VPNs? What is so unique about it that makes it worth getting?

After reviewing this service for almost a week and putting this service through all sorts of different tests, just to bring you an honest NordVPN review, I found it a pretty well-designed VPN that not only hides your online activities but also worked flawlessly for torrenting and streaming multiple different contents in Australia.

As for privacy, I found that NordVPN is located in the data retention-free jurisdiction of Panama, follows a strict no-logs policy, comes standard with features like Military-grade encryption, Internet Kill Switch, Onion Over VPN (Double VPN), and also optimized apps for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and more. This is a pretty decent security and privacy combo for starters, but I will save my verdict till I have tested all of the features.

So stick around if you want to see me tearing apart NordVPN into pieces only to review every bit of it in my NordVPN in-depth review.

Quick Overview: Is NordVPN worth getting?

NordVPN is one of the leading VPN options on the market for a reason, because of NordVPN’s security, privacy, and streaming features, it is definitely worth getting complete anonymity and protection in cyberspace.

  • Streaming – I successfully unblock popular streaming services such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Disney+, and many more with ease.
  • Speed –  Offered fast download speeds closer to the actual location. It still managed to provide satisfactory speed results for streaming, torrenting, and gaming purposes on the servers that are located far away.
  • Server Network – A widespread server network of over 5,400 servers that were reliable for security and streaming anytime.
  • Security – State-of-the-art security features for improving online security against various cyber threats. I conducted extensive testing for each security feature just to see how strong and reliable they are.
  • Privacy – I took a deep look at NordVPN’s strict zero-logs policy while examining its official Warrant Canary as well.
  • User interface and Security features – I found the application interface and security features to be very straightforward and easy, even for beginners.
  • Compatibility – NordVPN is compatible with almost every popular operating system, and it offers effortless and easy-to-use apps.
  • Pricing – Offers a 72% discount on its 24-months along with Six multi-logins and even lets you try the service with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • Customer Support – I was very impressed with NordVPN’s 24/7 operational customer support, including live chat, email support, installation guides, faqs, and more.

NordVPN Streaming Test – Is NordVPN good for streaming?⭐9.0

Yes, NordVPN is one of the finest choices currently available for streaming. Even though NordVPN has been more popular for providing security and encryption techniques that most top-tier VPN providers do not offer, it still hasn’t lost its touch regarding providing unlimited and unrestricted access to geo-blocked streaming services.

Moreover, NordVPN is considered to be the best vpn for Peacock TV therefore, I also tested other streaming services such as Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Disney+, Hulu, and found them working exceptionally well.

NordVPN working flawlessly with Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu and Disney+

NordVPN works flawlessly with Netflix. For Netflix U.S, I connected to the United States #6347 server and streamed US Netflix exclusive “K-9” movie. I was able to stream the movies in HD quality for about 60 minutes straight.

Speaking of the speed when streaming US Netflix, I received an impressive 91.36 Mbps speed on my 100 Mbps connection. It was more than enough to let me view Netflix titles in HD quality for hours. Also, I was able to unblock UK, Canada, Germany, Australia, South Korea, and Japan Netflix libraries with NordVPN.

If you are looking for in-depth knowledge about all the Netflix Libraries that NordVPN can unblock, which servers it can unblock them, and how to use those servers with NordVPN, we recommend reading our blog on NordVPN Netflix review.

For BBC iPlayer, I connected with NordVPN’s United Kingdom #1830 server and was able to easily bypass BBC iPlayer geo-blocking. I streamed the BBC iPlayer exclusive “Meet the Khans – Big in Bolton” TV show.

Even though the speed was a little on the lower side when streaming BBC iPlayer with NordVPN, I didn’t feel much difference, to be honest. The stream was clear, and the audio was also synced perfectly with the video. It seems a speed of 80.68 Mbps is not bad for streaming BBC iPlayer.

BBC iPlayer - speed-nordvpn

Hulu works quite well with NordVPN. I connected again to the United States #6347 server for my testing and easily managed to unblock Hulu. With only a 3-4 seconds delay, I was able to stream Hulu’s exclusive “Handmaid’s Tale” at a pretty good quality.

It was only after I took a speed test, I understood what was causing the second delay. I was getting 86.78 Mbps speed on the same server I used a couple of hours ago for US Netflix. Pretty consistent and good results if you ask me.

I connected with NordVPN’s United States # 8444 server for Disney+ access, and I was blown away with the result. I streamed their latest TV series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” with crystal clear video quality. Also, if you haven’t seen “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” I highly recommend it.

This time I used the quick connect feature and was assigned a US-based server automatically. I received a good 92.75 Mbps speed from NordVPN’s network. Hence the crystal clear video quality.

Just like Netflix, you can also obtain unlimited and unrestricted access to Disney+ with NordVPN and even unblock HBO Max anywhere with NordVPN, with zero buffering and HD quality.

Before you try to access any streaming service with NordVPN, always ensure that your browser cache, cookies, and history are cleared for a better streaming experience. If you are using handheld devices, then disable your GPS or location service and clear the streaming application’s cache.

Apart from the above four mentioned streaming services, I successfully unblock Amazon Prime Video, HBO Go, Hotstar, CBS, NBC Live, Sony Liv, ESPN+, Spotify, and DAZN through NordVPN. Although with Hotstar and Sony Liv, I did experience a small buffering issue that is understandable since I had to connect to servers in India that are far away from my actual location.

Streaming Services Comparison: NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark

I have prepared a small streaming channel comparison table that shows NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark unblocking capabilities.

Streaming ChannelsNordVPNExpressVPNSurfshark
BBC iPlayerYesYesYes
Amazon Prime VideoYesYesYes

In my personal opinion, if your purpose behind getting a VPN is streaming different services from across the globe, then having NordVPN by your side would be one of the best decisions of your life.

Not only was I really impressed with its unblocking capabilities, but the video quality that I received with every streaming service that I tested was High-Definition, which made the experience a whole lot better.

Our websites also have an in-depth comparison between these providers. If you are conflicted between the three and want some help in deciding on one, then do check out ExpressVPN vs NordVPN and NordVPN vs. Surfshark for a detailed comparison.

NordVPN Speed Test – Does NordVPN speed up the Internet?⭐8.0

Yes, NordVPN does speed up your internet connection. Although not much appreciated for its speed, it exceptionally outperforms many other high-speed VPN providers.

NordVPN delivers excellent speeds across its wide network of 5,400 servers in 59 countries. As detailed in my following NordVPN speed test, which revealed how fast NordVPN really is, the provider was quite consistent in providing stability and decent speeds when I tested it on a 100 Mbps connection in one of our US-based testing labs.

NordVPN connected to United States of America server:

This was no surprise, considering I was sitting in the same country the server was located in. I received a good 90.84 Mbps speed from the NordVPN network. Just a 9.16% difference in the speed.

NordVPN connected to Canada server:

I have to admit, this was a surprise. Although I was expecting something similar to the US server response, I never imagined I would get the same speed as my actual ISP connection with a 0% difference in speed.

NordVPN connected to the United Kingdom server:

Speed is inversely proportional to the distance between you and the server. This was quite true in the United Kingdom case. With a 21.03% in speed, it was quite alarming.

NordVPN connected to the Spain server:

I already figured the results of Spain and other European countries would be quite similar to the one we got in the United Kingdom. After all, they both are located on the same continent. Still, a difference of 25.35% isn’t that bad. NordVPN turned out to be one of the Best VPN for Spain as I was also able to stream Netflix Spain on this speed perfectly.

NordVPN connected to the France server:

I experienced a speed difference of 28.93% when I used the France server. With a speed loss of less than 30% in Europe for someone sitting in the United States, I’d say it’s not that bad and a good companion for quality streaming and other purposes that require a decent speed.

Similarly, I conducted speed tests with NordVPN servers in all the major cities of different countries. You can learn in detail about these tests and the speed loss we experienced with NordVPN in our blog: “how fast NordVPN is?“.

Also, you can take a quick overview of the speed results I obtained with NordVPN’s servers in major countries in the table below:

Server locationDownload speedUpload speedSpeed – (%) drop
Australia70 Mbps73.25 Mbps30%
Brazil79.92 Mbps75.5 Mbps20.08%
Germany82 Mbps80.67 Mbps18%
Hong Kong69 Mbps71.09 Mbps31%
Israel78.09 Mbps73.75 Mbps21.91%
Japan71.25 Mbps73.41 Mbps28.75%
Singapore75.59 Mbps79.09 Mbps24.41%

NordVPN Double-VPN Speeds Test

When I connected to the double VPN servers of NordVPN, I experienced almost a 50% drop in speed. Before enabling the double VPN feature, the maximum speed that I got with NordVPN was 96.92 Mbps. After connecting to the USA > Canada server, I managed to get a maximum download speed of 53 Mbps.

After switching to the Switzerland > Sweden server, I still didn’t notice my speeds improve. The maximum download speed that I got this time was 51.14 Mbps.

Speed Comparison: NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark

Like I did in the streaming heading, I have also prepared a small download speed comparison table showing NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark’s download speeds with seven different countries.

Server locationNordVPNExpressVPNSurfshark
Australia70 Mbps79.25 Mbps75.36 Mbps
Brazil79.92 Mbps80.5 Mbps80.15 Mbps
Germany82 Mbps80.67 Mbps81.27 Mbps
Hong Kong69 Mbps71.09 Mbps70.39 Mbps
Israel78.09 Mbps73.75 Mbps75.65 Mbps
Japan71.25 Mbps73.41 Mbps72.71 Mbps
Singapore75.59 Mbps79.09 Mbps76.72 Mbps

Although the Double VPN feature speed results were about 50% of the actual speeds, I still found NordVPN quite decent concerning speed. Don’t forget that you are also getting multiple security features that are not available with other providers. Hence, a small drop in speed is perfectly understandable and acceptable by my standards.

Also, I do like to mention here that a VPN will work within your actual internet connection network’s boundaries. Many factors affect the speed of the internet connection, and these factors are different for each of us.

Even after taking everything into account, NordVPN did a great job to offer me the most optimized speeds it could with the present network conditions, so it has my vote of confidence.

Furthermore, If you are facing a hard time deciding on a VPN provider optimized for speed than your purposes and need some help deciding on one, check out NordVPN vs. ExpressVPN and NordVPN vs. Surfshark for a detailed comparison.

NordVPN Gaming Test – Is NordVPN good for gaming?⭐8.0

Yes, NordVPN is good for gaming. While it allows you to play games originally not available to you, you’d have to ensure that you connect with the closest server to your actual location for an enhanced gaming experience.

When I used the quick connect feature, the speeds were great, but when I manually select a server in a country a little far away, the speeds were decent and not great. I could easily play Apex Legend with the United States #5611 server and experienced zero lag and lowest pings results.

Unlike streaming, when you are involved in any form of online gaming, the number of factors affecting your gaming experience is considerably larger. Therefore, you’d have to be prepared for all kinds of different effects you will experience during your game.

Favorably, during my testing, I found NordVPN to be quite effective for the online gaming experience. Not only my ping results were better, but I was also able to connect with the players from regions I was never able to. So, all in all, I firmly believe NordVPN to be a good VPN for gaming.

NordVPN Server Network – How many servers does NordVPN have?⭐8.5

NordVPN has 5,400 servers in 65 locations worldwide. It’s not bad, considering that most top-tier VPN providers normally have about 3,000 servers worldwide. Although the number of servers is decent, one thing that bothers me is the number of countries. However, if you want global coverage, you can also go for ExpressVPN with 3000 servers in 94 countries and over 160 cities.

NordVPN’s server network is divided into five different categories.

  1. Double VPN – Double VPN is an advanced VPN security feature that routes your traffic through two VPN servers instead of one, encrypting your data twice. NordVPN has 91 servers that offer a Double VPN security feature.
  2. Dedicated IP – A dedicated IP address is assigned entirely for your use. Unlike a shared IP distributed to many users, a dedicated IP is unique to your account — no one else can use it. NordVPN has 195 servers for Dedicated IP addresses.
  3. Standard VPN or Shared IP address – The shared IP address or standard VPN service is referred to the IP addresses or servers that the NordVPN subscribers share. You can use these servers on Six devices simultaneously. NordVPN has 4,930 servers for Standard. VPN.
  4. P2P – These servers are specifically designed for P2P/Torrenting/File-sharing purposes. NordVPN has 4,653 servers for P2P/Torrenting/File-sharing.
  5. Obfuscated – These servers are fully capable of hiding the fact that you are using a VPN to reroute your traffic. They are quite handy in environments with heavy censorship restrictions such as Iran, Russia, and China. NordVPN has 158 Obfuscated servers.

Note: NordVPN server network also consists of servers that especially support Socks5 proxy services. Learn more about it in detail and its combination with NordVPN in our descriptive analysis of NordVPN and SOCKS5.

While a server network comprising more than 5,000 servers is quite impressive on its own, the most spectacular thing for me was the detailed information about each type of server available on the NordVPN website. They have listed down the number of servers each category holds separately for users’ convenience.

NordVPN Security Test – Is NordVPN really secure?⭐9.0

Yes, NordVPN is really secure. Its headquarter is located in Panama, which isn’t part of the 5-eyes or 14-eyes intelligence-sharing alliance. It also supports zero-log policy, encrypts data using military-grade encryption, and has an official Warrant Canary. Trust me; if you are looking for your online security, it doesn’t get better than NordVPN.

DNS, IP Leak, and WebRTC Leak Tests

I do not give out any recommendation without actually testing the service first myself. Of course, I had to conduct DNS, IP Leak, and WebRTC leak tests to see for myself just how secure NordVPN really is.

NordVPN doesn’t leak DNS, IP, and WebRTC. Here are the test results:

I connected to the German server and took the DNS, IP leak, and WebRTC test. As you can see from the screenshot, there wasn’t any leak in the connection, and I was completely secure online. Overall, NordVPN performed exceptionally well. However, I’m not surprised since NordVPN actually comes with built-in leak protection.

Also, I believe that we as users can also play our part in ensuring that our DNS, IP, or WebRTC doesn’t leak over the internet. For example, ensuring that your browser cache, cookies, and history is always clear and keeping the IPv6 of the device disabled can ultimately benefit us in the long run.

NordVPN is leakproof as per my testing and it will not expose your IP, DNS or WebRTC information.

Encryption Test

NordVPN uses AES-256-CBC with a 2048-bit DH key encryption. This type of encryption has around 1.1×1077 possible combinations. Unless anyone uses a supercomputer, your sensitive data cannot be decrypted. Also, AES-256-CBC, with a 2048-bit DH key, is the strongest cipher in the industry.

Another thing that I really like about NordVPN is the fact that it uses Perfect Forward Secrecy for every session. This means that NordVPN uses unique session keys to ensure better privacy and even stronger encryption.

While all of that sounds so secure and encrypted, I won’t be satisfied with the encryption until I tested it. So I decided to test it using Wireshark. I knew that if I connected the VPN and ran a packet tracing, the data should be seen as gibberish. So I tried to test NordVPN’s encryption, and here is the result of it:

Once I saw the Wireshark packet tracer results, I knew NordVPN encryption was working as it should and encrypting my data.

What Security Protocols does NordVPN Use?

For even more robust security, NordVPN uses OpenVPN (TCP/UDP), IKEv2/IPsec, and more recently have added WireGuard. Not only WireGuard is secure, but it is also faster than OpenVPN. We recently pitted CyberGhost OpenVPN protocol and NordVPN WiregGuard protocol to see which one is best. It was no surprise that NordVPN came out on top in every test.

If you wish to see further how CyberGhost did against other tests, you can visit  CyberGhost vs. NordVPN comparison for more info.

WireGuard protocol consists of only 4000 lines of code, which is considerably less than OpenVPN. This makes the WireGuard protocol easy to deploy and audit for bugs.

This protocol is only available for Linux, iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows operating systems. However, the provider is planning on releasing the WireGuard protocol for other platforms too in the future.

One of the core purposes of a VPN is to offer the most secure security to its users. I was very pleased with the results of every security test I ran on NordVPN. I was delighted with the outcome and highly recommended NordVPN for security and privacy-conscious users.

NordVPN Privacy – Does it protect your online privacy?8.5

In this heading, I will be looking directly into the relationship between your privacy and NordVPN, how NordVPN honors it, and what is a Warrant Canary.

Where is NordVPN located?

NordVPN is located in Panama, which is a country with no data retention laws. In fact, Panama is a haven for privacy-conscious users who value their privacy.

Panama also does not fall under the 5 eyes intelligence-sharing countries; this way, Panama is not liable to share users’ information with any other country or authority if required.  This is great since NordVPN doesn’t have to abide by any mandatory data retention laws.

Jurisdiction is significant when you are deciding on a VPN for yourself. You don’t want to purchase a VPN provider like TunnelBear, which operates from Canada (Part of the 5 eyes alliance) and risk your online privacy and data.

Even though TunnelBear is a competitive VPN provider on many levels with NordVPN, it is not a favorite due to its jurisdiction. Check out how it performs against top-tier VPN in TunnelBear vs. NordVPN comparison.

NordVPN’s jurisdiction is safe, and the provider isn’t obligated by law to keep its customers’ logs.

Does NordVPN keep logs?

No, NordVPN doesn’t store logs. In fact, NordVPN’s logging policy follows a strict zero-logging rule, ensuring none of the personally identifiable information of users is logged. More specifically, NordVPN legitimately doesn’t retain IP address, connection timestamps, bandwidth, or your traffic data. In fact, it is clearly mentioned in the NordVPN logging policy.

The reason why NordVPN can guarantee zero logs is because of its Panamanian jurisdiction. The only thing NordVPN keeps logs of are email addresses, payment data, and server performance data. Don’t worry though, this type of information is pretty standard and wouldn’t actually compromise your true identity.

Besides, you can just use a separate pseudo email and cryptocurrency for total anonymity. Here are some other logless VPNs. In this case NordVPN has proven to be the best VPN to provide you online security and privacy, as we discussed in Is Nordvpn Safe review.

What is NordVPN’s Warrant Canary?

If you don’t know, a warrant canary is basically a small document informing customers of National Security Letters, Gag Orders, and Warrants that the provider has received to date.

NordVPN has introduced a warrant canary which is a statement that is regularly published confirming that they have not received a secret warrantgag ordersubpoenas, or national security letters from the government. NordVPN has a 3 line statement published on their website, which states:

As of 2021-04-26, we:

  • We have NOT received any National Security letters;
  • We have NOT received any gag orders;
  • We have NOT received any warrants from any government organization.

NordVPN hasn’t received any warrants so far as of 2021-04-26. You find this information at the very bottom of their about us page.

Privacy Feature Comparison: NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark

Here’s a comparison table about the privacy features of NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark.

Privacy FeaturesNordVPNExpressVPNSurfshark
JurisdictionPanama (Safe)The British Virgin Islands (Safe)The British Virgin Islands (Safe)
No-log policyYes Yes Yes
Warrant CanaryYesNo Yes
AES-256-Bit EncryptionYesYes Yes

I’ll be honest, I had my doubts regarding NordVPN’s privacy due to the security breach incident that occurred in the past, but after seeing the security test results and the establishment of NordVPN’s Warrant Canary, I personally believe they are safe and completely capable of protecting your online privacy.

Also, NordVPN clearly takes an edge over ExpressVPN – a popular VPN provider – in terms of privacy features. Nevertheless, to help you make better decisions for your privacy, we urge you to check out NordVPN vs. ExpressVPN and NordVPN vs. Surfshark detailed comparison.

NordVPN Torrenting Test – Does NordVPN allow Torrenting?⭐8.5

Yes, NordVPN allows torrenting. One of the main reasons I like NordVPN is the massive number of P2P supported servers NordVPN offers. At the time of writing this review, NordVPN is offering 4,676 servers are optimized for torrenting.

Apart from the impressive P2P supported server count, NordVPN ensures that you are faced with no data limit or bandwidth restrictions that could suppress the speeds of your internet connection while you are downloading torrents.

NordVPN performed exceptionally well in my testing, and I easily managed to download a large torrent file without any major speed drops or connectivity issues. NordVPN performed exceptionally well, and I easily managed to download a large torrent file without any major speed drops or connectivity issues.

Let’s take a look at the tablet below to see which NordVPN’s servers I tested for torrenting, the speed received on them, the speed loss in percentage, and the time it took for me to download a 5.27 GB file. On my Internet Service Provider’s connection, I receive an average of 15 MB/s speed in the uTorrent Client.

P2P ServerDownload speedFile download – ETASpeed – (%) drop
Canada14.94 Mbps5 min 18 sec0.4%
Brazil13.21 Mbps7 min 11 sec11.93%
Germany13.97 Mbps6 min 23 sec6.86%

Sweden12.84 Mbps8 min 53 sec14.4%
Australia10.01 Mbps10 min 45 sec33.26%
Singapore11.32 Mbps9min 39 sec24.53%

While I was convinced that NordVPN allows torrenting, I also wanted to see proof about security while downloading torrents with NordVPN. So took another security test to confirm that my connection was really secure for torrenting.

As you can see, NordVPN easily passes the Torrent Address Detection, meaning that this provider is completely safe and secure for downloading torrents. What I liked most about NordVPN because it offers a completely separate mode for P2P purposes that lets you connect to the P2P-specific servers within a few seconds.

While I am personally not a big torrent user, from what I have seen in NordVPN’s Torrenting test, I’d say that it is pretty handy for taking care of your day-to-day basis torrenting needs. Also, after testing its torrent security, I am quite confident that it is very much safe and secure.

Torrenting Features Comparison: NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark

Let’s look at some of the other competitors that support torrents and see what they have to offer compared to NordVPN.

P2P SupportYesYesYes
Number of P2P Servers4,6763,0003,200+
Internet Kill SwitchYesYes Yes

NordVPN clearly comes out on top if we consider the number of P2P servers offered by a provider. It is a great companion for your P2P purposes, with additional security features that are scarce these days.

Is NordVPN safe for the dark web?

Yes, NordVPN is completely safe for the dark web. The reason why I say this is that it comes with plenty of Onion Over VPN servers. These servers are designed to keep you totally anonymous while browsing the dark web.

There are four stages of anonymity with Onion Over VPN.

  1. Entry – You are connected with Onion Network at a completely random entry point
  2. Maze of servers – Multiple layers of encryption is applied to your data as it travels through different servers
  3. Decryption – The layers are peeled off as the decryption process starts
  4. Exit – Your data is decrypted, and you arrive at your desired website

Other features that make NordVPN safe to use on the dark web are military-grade encryption, Internet Kill switch, and DNS leak protection. Best of all, since the dark web is a sketchy place to visit, NordVPN actually comes with a built-in CyberSec feature to protect you against adware and malware.

NordVPN User Interface – Is it easy to use?⭐9.0

NordVPN apps are nicely designed, are quite lightweight, and I experienced no connectivity issues or abrupt crashes during my testing. I really like that its servers are listed quite conveniently on the left-hand side of the screen.

To start, it comes with a user-interactive map for server selection. This map is available right on the face of the application, and you can connect to your desired location with just a simple click. This feature is unique these days, and I was quite impressed by it.

Just at the right side of the user-interactive map, we see a list of VPN services sorted in alphabetical order and the famous Onion Over VPN features that allow you to connect to the tor network after connecting with the VPN network for additional security.

You will find the quick connect button below the map to automatically connect you to the most optimized location according to your actual location. For example, since I am in the US, quick connect would always connect me to the Canadian server.

To connect to different servers present in a particular country, all you have to do is click on the three horizontal dots in front of the country name, and a server selection box will appear. From here, you can select your desired server and directly connect to it.

Once the VPN connection is successful, the quick connect button will turn into the Disconnect button. You can use it to either completely disconnect the VPN connection or temporarily pause. The option to pause your VPN connection. This saves a ton of time disconnecting and reconnecting again.

The usability of NordVPN mobile apps is outstanding. The Android app of NordVPN has a 4.3-star rating on Google Play Store and a 4.6-star rating on the iTunes Store. Whether you’re an iPhone or an Android user, you’ll have no problem figuring out how to use the apps. In fact, the apps are straightforward and easy to use.

It is pretty much self-explanatory when it comes to changing basic settings and making a connection to servers of your choice. As such, no user should have trouble figuring out how to use NordVPN. This way you can also download the NordVPN app on Android TV from Google Play Store.

Although, I have to admit that I ran into a few issues while I was testing NordVPN’s applications. It’s a good thing; I was aware of NordVPN’s troubleshooting steps, which we already compile for users facing issues related to the service in our NordVPN not working – troubleshooting tips.

Concerning the NordVPN user interface, I find it very neat, clean, and organized. The interface is very straightforward, maybe so much that someone with minimal VPN experience can easily start using this service at their fingertips. Its user interface is easy to use, which is a good thing and deserves appreciation.

NordVPN Security Feature – Does it offer any Advance Security features?⭐9.0

A VPN is as good as its security features. Even if you are not a VPN veteran, you must have heard about NordVPN and its excellent security features at some point. Well, if you haven’t, today I will show you the amazing features it has stored for its customer’s security and online privacy.

NordVPN’s CyberSec Feature – Is it any good?

NordVPN CyberSec feature allows you to block unwanted ads and malicious websites on your network. It is a feature essential for keeping your device secure from any malware and malicious content. It can be easily activated along with a few other basic application features from the general settings of your NordVPN application.

I decided to test the CyberSec feature to see its results. I was surprised by how accurate and optimized it was. You can observe the results in the below screenshot. I was delighted with the CyberSec feature results and believe it is a worthy addition to NordVPN’s arsenal against intrusive and irritating advertisements.

Does NordVPN Auto-Connect on Wi-Fi?

The NordVPN Auto-connect on Wi-Fi features ensures that your VPN connection is automatically reconnected if disconnected due to any reason. You get an option to either use this feature for all the networks or for only those that are marked as unsecured by you.

You can also select your choice of protocol that will be used for the automatic reconnection. You can either have OpenVPN (UDP), OpenVPN (TCP), or NordLynx (Recommended).

This is a convenient feature if you are involved in an activity that can compromise your online privacy if the VPN connection is dropped and not reconnected again immediately.

I tested this feature about 8-10 times, and I was pleased with the way it performed. Unlike many other VPN providers I tested, NordVPN auto-connect feature didn’t let me down even when I tested this feature in some very irregular and unpredicted network conditions.

I’d say this is a convenient feature, and if you are looking for a provider that can make it work 10 out of 10 times, then NordVPN is definitely one of them.

Internet Kill Switch – Does NordVPN kill switch work?

This feature enables the NordVPN application to completely shut down your device’s internet connection in the case of VPN disconnection. This is done so that your actual IP address and location are not leaked over the internet. It is an essential feature to have if your purpose for using the VPN involves activities such as Torrenting.

NordVPN also offers an App Kill Switch that allows you to specify some particular apps that NordVPN will disconnect from the internet in case of VPN disconnection.

Even though I am not a very heavy torrenting user, I make sure that the Internet Kill Switch feature is activated whenever I download torrents. During my testing, I had to create such conditions to test NordVPN’s Internet Kill Switch feature efficiency.

Usually, with such a feature, you’d expect them to malfunction 1 out of 3 times, but in the NordVPN case, the Internet Kill Switch didn’t disappoint and worked every time I tested it. Even when I used this feature with different applications, it didn’t let me down. I was really impressed with how much accuracy this feature was working for me.

Split Tunneling – Does NordVPN allow split tunneling?

Split Tunneling features allow you to split your internet traffic into two different tunnels. One of the tunnels uses your actual ISP internet connection, while the other tunnels run on the VPN internet connection.

With the NordVPN Split Tunneling feature, you have two choices. You can either specify the apps using the VPN internet connection or specify the apps that won’t use the VPN internet connection and use an ISP internet connection.

This feature allows you to separate those apps you don’t wish to associate with the VPN connection while downloading torrents on your torrent client with VPN protection.

I have tested many VPN providers to know that features like Split Tunneling often disappoint and don’t completely work as they should.

Fortunately, except for just a few occasions where the IP address on my selected app didn’t change, NordVPN proved yet again to be one of the best VPN providers when it comes to advanced security features.

This feature worked flawlessly by splitting my network into two different tunnels without compromising my actual location or IP address.

Advanced Features

NordVPN Advanced features consist of Custom DNS, Obfuscated servers, and Invisibility on Lan. Let’s take a look at what they are:

What is the custom DNS feature of NordVPN?

NordVPN applications use NordVPN’s DNS servers when connected to VPN. Usually, this DNS is used to prevent DNS leaks during a VPN connection. That said, NordVPN also gives its users the freedom to use their own Custom DNS from the Advanced feature option.

What are NordVPNs obfuscated servers?

This set of servers is used to hide the fact that you are using a VPN to reroute your traffic. They are quite common in environments with heavy internet censorship, such as China, Iran, Seria, and Russia. This feature is also offered by many other popular VPN providers but with different names.

What does NordVPNs invisibility on LAN mean?

Invisibility on LAN just hides your device from being seen by other devices on the network. If you’re at a friend’s house or on public Wi-Fi, it can act as an extra layer of protection to secure your files. Other devices won’t be able to interact with your device when you’re invisible on LAN. They won’t even know that you’re connected to the wifi at all.

How to access the NordVPNs Diagnostics Feature?

This is a handy tool that will help the customer support team diagnose your application-related issues. In some technical issues, they may ask you to upload the connection log files of the NordVPN desktop application to help them identify and fix the issue. This feature will help you gather the necessary log file to pass it on to the customer support team.

NordVPN App’s Security Audit

It’s not the first time the company has carried out a third-party audit. In fact, after the no-logs policy audit conducted last year, NordVPN carried out another audit on October 9, 2019, but this time for their apps.

An independent auditing firm named VerSprite specializes in finding vulnerabilities, risks, and threats in application software performed penetration tests based on real-world attack scenarios on NordVPN’s iOS and Android apps.

According to Laura Tyrell, Head of Public Relations at NordVPN, the vulnerabilities pointed out by the auditing firm were addressed, and a few changes were made accordingly. This shows NordVPN’s commitment to maintaining a flawless VPN service.

NordVPN Security Breach Incident

Currently, NordVPN is among the safest VPNs in the industry. But in the past, there was one major incident that tainted NordVPN’s reputation. In October 2019, NordVPN suffered from a security breach.

Even though one of NordVPN’s rented servers got hacked, in reality, the hacker was unable to obtain any sensitive information. The reason why no sensitive information was compromised was that NordVPN stores no logs on their servers. This proves that NordVPN is trustworthy and secure.

NordVPN constantly comes up with innovations to make their service more secure. For instance, NordVPN has just released a new feature called Dark Web Monitor, which constantly scans lists of compromised email addresses, passwords, and usernames listed on cybercrime forums and sends alerts to users’ credentials that appear on the list.

Time to see if other competitors are keeping up with the quality of Security Features offered by NordVPN. Let’s compare the security features of ExpressVPN and Surfshark with NordVPN.

Obfuscated ServersYesYesYes
Invisibility on LanYesNoNo

NordVPN clearly takes the win as it provides multiple additional security features for its user’s online privacy and anonymity.

You don’t have to worry about your security, as NordVPN has the following tools up in its sleeves to keep your online activities secure and private.

  • AES-256, Perfect Forward Secrecy, 4096-bit RSA key.
  • Secure Protocols: OpenVPN (TCP/UDP), IKEv2/IPsec, WireGuard.
  • Double VPN
  • Dedicated IP/Private IP
  • Onion over VPN
  • Ad-blocker
  • Internet Kill Switch
  • Leak protection
  • Automatic connection
  • Obfuscation
  • No logs policy

While I am always rooting for services that offer multiple security features to their client, I believe NordVPN could have done more here. I think they should consider adding a few explanations for their advanced security features to understand the purpose behind them and make informed decisions about them.

Another thing that I would’ve liked to see is a separate place for the “connection protocol” selection. I believe it would be more beneficial and easy for the users to select their desired “connection protocol” from either the main setting page or have a separate section.

Apart from these two things, I don’t believe they need to do anything else.

NordVPN Compatibility – What devices does NordVPN support?⭐9.0

NordVPN supports almost every device you can imagine. You can use it on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and on a bunch of other devices. Also, NordVPN Chrome extensions and Firefox extensions can help you secure your connection without even opening the app.

Besides the common operating systems and platforms, you can also easily use NordVPN on a little more complicated devices such as Kodi, Raspberry Pi, Linux, Routers, Chromecast, Xbox, and Roku. I’ll make sure to link our corresponding NordVPN configuration pages at the end of this section so that you can easily set up NordVPN on all of your devices.

Here’s a table of all the devices that NordVPN is compatible with:

NordVPN Windows & macOS Apps

NordVPN Windows app has considerably improved since the release of their new updated app. The same is true for the macOS app of NordVPN, which also works just as well. On Windows, NordVPN is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7. It is considered as one of the best Windows 10 VPN, On macOS, NordVPN is compatible with all macOS versions above 10.10.

NordVPN Android & iOS Apps

NordVPN also offers well-designed apps for both iOS and Android. On iOS devices such as iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, you can use NordVPN with iOS 11.0 or above. On Android, it’s not exactly clear which OS versions it officially supports. But regardless of that, you should be able to use NordVPN on iPhones and Android phones.

Overall, NordVPN offers great apps, and the fact that it can be used on 6 devices simultaneously makes it even better considering its price.

NordVPN App Version 6.35.9 and 6.36.9 – What’s different?

Recently NordVPN has released a new version (Version 6.36.9) of its Windows Application. Version 6.36.9 seems to be resolved the issue of an empty server list after updating the app or launching it without an active internet connection and unreliability issues concerning the automatic reconnection feature.

Let’s take a look at what’s different about their latest version.

  • Location markers for the cities in the countries on the map
  • Visual improvements for the map’s accuracy
  • Less memory usage by the app
  • OpenVPN version updated to 2.4.10
  • Logging in via NordVPN Account will be smoother now

How to Install and Set-Up NordVPN?

Not every VPN provider offers a native application for all of the devices. If you are lucky, you will be able to download the application on a maximum of 4 or 5 devices. In the case of NordVPN, you get a native application for Mac, Android, Windows, iOS, Linux, Android TV, and routers. You can also install NordVPN on Synology easily.

These native applications require a few minutes to install and do not need any complex manual configuration steps.

The quickest and easiest way to get started with NordVPN is by downloading the application directly from the website. It will automatically detect your device and display the download button for the appropriate application.

To log into the application, you will need an access code – provided by NordVPN itself. The whole process is straightforward and easy. You can connect Six devices at a single time with a single NordVPN subscription.

However, if you configure NordVPN on a router, it will be considered as a single device, and all the devices connected to your router won’t be counted as connected devices.

NordVPN for Kodi, Linux, Chromecast, Xbox, Raspberry Pi, and Router

While NordVPN does offer easy-to-use and straightforward applications for common operating systems such as Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, setting up NordVPN on complicated devices such as Kodi, Linux, Chromecast, Xbox, Raspberry Pi, and Router can be difficult for you if you don’t have basic operational knowledge of the platform.

While NordVPN does have a command-line-based application available for Linux, you’d pretty much have to manually set up the VPN connection for the rest of the device. Also, if you are not a big fan of setting up VPN on all of your devices separately, you can simply set up NordVPN on Mikrotik router just like me and connect every device in your home with the router.

Compatibility Comparison: NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Surfshark

If we compare ExpressVPN and Surfshark, there’s no surprise that all of the three quality VPN providers support the most basic and common operating systems and platforms operated by their users.

Android TVYesYesYes

I found NordVPN no different than any other VPN provider when it comes to installation and setup. I do think the six simultaneous connections feature quite impressive and worth mentioning since many VPN providers out there are still offering only fix simultaneous connections.

In the end, it all comes down to your own preference as all three providers are easily capable of supporting your major devices.

NordVPN Pricing Plans – How much does NordVPN cost?⭐8.5

NordVPN currently offers 3-plans, and each of them is quite affordable. NordVPN subscription plans are listed below:

I personally liked the 2-year plan as it is cheaper than the 1-year plan if you think about securing yourself for the whole 24 months. Also, you will be getting a 30-day money-back guarantee with all the premium subscriptions.

If we talk about extra value-added features, you can also get add-ons like dedicated IPs or a NordVPN lifetime deal. If you want a dedicated or static IP from NordVPN, you’ll have to pay an extra $70.00 per year.

  • United States – ($70/yr)
  • Germany – ($70/yr)
  • United Kingdom – ($70/yr)
  • Netherlands – ($70/yr)
  • France – ($70/yr)

As for payment methods, NordVPN accepts PayPal, Credit Cards, Amazon Pay, Crypto Currencies, Ali Pay, Sofort, Google Play, and Union Pay. The good thing about NordVPN is that it gives you the freedom to use one subscription plan on 6 devices simultaneously.

Needless to say that out of all the payment methods this provider uses, NordVPN’s PayPal payment method will always be my favorite and recommended due to its accuracy and efficiency.

Check out more best VPN for multiple devices. You can also check out the IPVanish VPN review as it offers unlimited simultaneous connections.

I personally like the idea of having Crypto Currencies as payment methods these days when major VPN providers are only accepting Credit Card or PayPal. While the 2-year subscription is the obvious cheapest subscription, I’d recommend starting with small steps and going with the monthly subscription if you are new to the game.

How do I get a refund from NordVPN?

A 30-day NordVPN refund policy covers all subscription plans, so you will be eligible for a full refund if you cancel NordVPN during this time. Ensure that you cancel the subscription before your renewal gets charged; otherwise, a refund of the renewal payment might not be possible as per their official refund policy.

If you want to learn more about NordVPN’s cancellation and refund request procedure, here’s how you can cancel NordVPN and get a refund.

NordVPN Customer Support – Is it fast and reliable?⭐9.0

NordVPN’s customer support is divided into three parts. You can either talk to their live chat representative, get assistance via email or find yourself the solution on their knowledge base in the form of support articles.

While their live chat operates 24/7, which is impressive, it is quite slow, to be honest. I contacted them and asked about their service condition in the China region. I had to wait quite a bit as the representative tool almost 30+ seconds for each response.

In customer support language, that amount of time will surely raise few eyebrows. You can view my conversation with the live chat representative in the below screenshot.

I asked the representative about NordVPN condition in China right now, and he told me that NordVPN is working in China. However, you’d have to download a test application on your Windows device in China and only use the NordLynx protocol for VPN connection. Android, iOS, and macOS devices will have to use the manual connection method in China.

You can also contact their support team via email at “[email protected]” for your query. I emailed them a small query and received their response exactly after 6 hours. Not bad if you ask me, considering email responses can usually take more than 24 hours in some cases.

Aside from that, NordVPN has a detailed help section on its website where you can find troubleshooting guides, installation tutorials for popular devices, and helpful FAQs.

Although the Live Chat representative was slow for my liking, I was quite satisfied with their complete support system. They are quite professional, to the point, and always ready to help out a user in need. I respect and appreciate that.

People opinions about NordVPN on Reddit⭐8.0

If you head over to Reddit, you will also find various users who will praise this service, while many of the users will highlight the negative aspect. Deep down, we all know that NordVPN is a customer-centric product determined to provide online anonymity with access to global content, and it can be clearly seen from NordVPN’s Reddit Reviews.

Let’s take a look at a Reddit review left by one of their satisfied users.

Reddit user “JamesgibsonESQ,” while sharing his personal NordVPN experience perfectly sums up what a VPN service really is. In his comment, the reddit user clearly expresses his satisfaction with NordVPN while also admitting that the service does have disconnection issues. Still, he has found comfort in the Internet Kill Switch feature.

FAQs of NordVPN Review:

Now that you know basically all the pros and cons of NordVPN, let’s answer some of the most frequently asked questions people have about NordVPN.

Yes, since NordVPN offers dedicated IPs, you can use it with your Amazon seller account. If you use shared IPs, your Amazon seller account can get suspended. NordVPN’s dedicated IPs cost $70/yr.

Yes, since NordVPN is compatible with routers, you can use NordVPN on PS4 and with other gaming consoles. Here’s how you can set up NordVPN on a PS4.

NordVPN is compatible with a lot of routers, but it recommends the following router models:

  • Asus router models: RT-AC86U, RT-AC88U (AC3100), RT-AC5300
  • D-Link router models: DIR-885L, DIR-895L
  • Linksys router models: EA8500, WRT1900ACS, WRT3200ACM
  • Netgear router models: R7500, R7800, R8500, R9000

Since NordVPN’s app is available on the Amazon app store and can be directly downloaded on various Firestick models, it is a great choice for Firestick users. Here’s how you can use NordVPN on Firestick.

Yes, NordVPN offers a 7-day free trial for Android devices at the moment. However, you will have to provide your credit card details and cancel auto-renewal to avoid getting charged after your trial ends.

Final Verdict – Is NordVPN actually useful in 2022?

Yes, NordVPN is totally useful in 2022, in my opinion. After compiling this NordVPN review, I found it to be a very well-made product. After all, it delivers smooth performanceaffordable plans, and excellent security features like Onion over VPNObfuscation servers, and CyberSec that only a few VPN providers offer.

Not only that but I was also blown away by how good NordVPN works with different streaming services and torrenting. Despite streaming and downloading simultaneously, NordVPN still managed to crunch out considerably fast speeds up to an average of 91.92 Mbps.

That being said, because its desktop apps are quite slow and have a security breach history, NordVPN scored an 8.6/10 rating in this review.

  1. whatever says:

With every client update you have to provide your creds to login again and your old settings are lost (you have to set custom dns again, split tunneling, disable ‘help us improve’ etc.) At the moment even freaking youtube doesn’t work with this crap. Support treats you like an idiot tells you to reinstall the client no matter what issue you have. Stay away!

    • Abdul Rehman says:

Hey there, sorry to hear about that. Can you tell us what operating system you’re using. Perhaps we can help you manage your system cache or get your issue highlighted to NordVPN.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

  2. Jay says:

We’ve been using nordvpn for few years and everything was fine until we recently renewed with a discounted 2 year offer. Things worked fine for a few weeks then suddenly we were disconnected for no reason. We tried everything to reconnect but couldn’t even login to nord account. We had this problem on multiple devices. Nothing worked no matter what we tried. We tried support for help but no joy. We wanted refund but they said after 30 days they don’t refund. They took our money, gave vpn for few weeks then disconnected! Very dodgy! I don’t recommend nordvpn. We feel disappointed and conned.

    • Abdul Rehman says:

Hey Jay, Thanks for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the service did not come up to your expectations. You can try other great services like ExpressVPN, and Surfshark. You will not be disappointed.

  3. xcbk3 says:

I don’t know how they did it but there is some huge conspiracy regarding NordVPN. Everyone gives them a 10/10 perfect score and offer coupons which makes it seem too good to be true, well it is. Have gigabit internet? not anymore you don’t. prepare to be limited to downloading at 1.5mbps across the board. this has nothing to do with traffic or server or locations, there is a straight up cap on speed. the congestion will factor into the stability of that “speed”, but it will inevitably fall thanks to the auto connect algorithm. anyone having too good of an experience will get bombarded with the next wave of people auto connecting, should your experience be too good.

I never had this kind of experience, ever, with PIA. There were no hard caps on speeds and you could roulette yourself into actually getting on a good server which reflected your speed. My stupid self believed all the hype and ended up committing for 3 freakin years because it was only $99. Was such a terrible mistake.

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Hey there,

Truly disappointed to hear you had such a terrible experience with NordVPN. In our testing, NordVPN performed exceptionally well, however, since you might be looking for an alternative, I suggest you checkout PureVPN review.

    • GeorgeB says:

Just signed up for 3 years. Big mistake. I have broadband that gives me 240mbs on ookla.. When I turn on Nord I get 92mbs. This is a ridiculous drop in speed! Should have checked my speed sooner while I could still drop out. My bad.

      • Abdul Rehman says:

        Hey George,

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried switching to a server closer to you? You can also try switching to a different protocol through Settings > Advanced Settings > Protocols.

  4. Raj says:

I had my own doubts, but once the audit results came in I’m completely confident with their service again.

    • Abdul Rehman says:

A very bold move by the NordVPN indeed. But I wish they could publicly release the Audit report for everyone to see, instead just limiting it to NordVPN subscribers.

  5. Frede says:

I like NordVPN app. Using it 3 years, they improved a lot of things here, add thousands of new servers all around the world, more useful features as cyber sec, smart play and created apps for streaming services.

  6. Nick M. says:

The profile(?) page has abbreviations and esoteric terms, I am sure, are meaningless to the average user. The support page has a loop, so that if the question is not answered, loops back ad infinitum. Tried support; it has no intelligible way to add an ISP other than the few preferred. Much frustration trying to utilize the program, or, get help. The 24/7 support does not have chat, Email access, or, a phone number. How pray tell, does one use the VPN? My desktop has the NordVPN icon, but clicking on it does nothing. The tutorial, as they say in the vernacular, Sucks! There is no tutorial. If I can not use NordVPN, kindly refund my money, or, I will challenge the charge if it appears in my charge account. Nick M.

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Hey Nick,

Extremely sorry you had to face such issues. I have escalated your query to the concern department of NordVPN, they should get back to you soon.

  7. Hoffman says:

Is it true that NordVPN unblocks Netflix USA? I am currently using PIA and its pretty bad with Netflix. I am thinking about switching over.

  8. Ryan says:

When I connected to NordVPN UK server, it was showing me Malaysian server instead? How this possible?

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Hi Ryan,

There must be a glitch in NordVPN’s tunneling system for this to happen. You should contact the support staff of NordVPN to sort this out.

  9. Arend says:

Long time NordVPN user. My biggest problem with NordVPN is the lack of a good Linux client. Of course, setting up OpenVPN is not a big deal, but you will not benefit from dynamic server selection that picks a server that is not overloaded. It doesn’t look anything like that is on the roadmap so I am probably going to try ExpressVPN when my subscription expires. They seem to have solid Linux support.

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Hi Arend,

Thanks for your valuable feedback. We agree with you. NordVPN being a top VPN provider should definitely have a Linux client.

    • Vendetta says:

There is no almost Linux support. The link for CLI app reffers to nordvpn.0.0.1.deb package. When I found on their ftp ver 1.0.6.deb. The app is Command Line Interface only, automaticaly chooses your remote server if no params. My impression that it is very beginner stage made, like just to fill the gap. The Network-Manager OpenVPN plug-in drop list supports only about 40 servers, you need to choose from their 5000+ servers.
NO GUI app for Linux !!!

Android app is very low profile as well, no Kill Switch, sudden drops.

My rating to NordVPN after 8 months of use is about 6/10, tried it on many devices and Op.Systems

      • Abdul Rehman says:

        Hey Vendetta,

Thanks for pointing that out. I did get a chance to tryout their Linux app and you’re right, it is definitely not up to their standards. NordVPN should fix this issue ASAP.

The Android app, on the other hand, worked great for me. Don’t know why you’re facing sudden drops. Just for reference, I use NordVPN on my galaxy S8+.

  10. Ronald Kelly says:

-price (if you buy on deal)
    -BBC iplayer
    -fast torrenting
    -lots servers
    -cyber-sec feature
    -browser extensions

-doesn’t show location of servers (cities)
    -onion over vpn very slow

Basically it is a VPN for everyday users, good for streaming. Not recommended if you want to do something fishy…

  11. Paul Adler says:

Wow, the comments here are really merciless. My experience however has been positive, so either these people here are shills or extremely unlucky. Furthermore webRTC leaks most likely mean you have some malware downloaded and has nothing to do with quality of service… IF you are already compromised before connecting to a server how in the world you could become secure after connecting?

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Hello Paul,

Everyone has their preferences when it comes to VPNs. We are glad to know you had a positive experience with the service.

  12. Mario says:

NordVPN’s connection used to break quite often (now it’s getting better), and this does not depend on the “PC-ability” of the user. I’ve also experienced blackouts lasting even days. And c’mon, their Windows client Sucks, looks like the work of a child. Their linux “client” is nothing else than openvpn, that you must install, configure and run by yourself. But this, being the work of someone else, at least works!!

  13. presicl says:

  14. Bridgewo says:

Friendly customer care department and big advantage they have live chat available 24/7 because some main players have just tickets system and you have to wait for hours for a reply and then, again and again, tons of time for each reply. Speeds are just perfect near ISP. Of course it depends on how far away the nearest server but from over 1100 you could find the best for you. And it’s quite the only one which still works with US Netflix

  15. Tony says:

Between March and May this service was very good. June rolled around and something changed, the servers would just kill the data stream while remaining connected. sometimes it would take hours, other times minutes. some days the service is unusable as the loss of data stream would be so frequent nothing was usable. I have a ticket with Nord over 120 entries long, all I get is continuous change of techs who do not read the thread and request what has already been done. the replies from tech are now averaging over a week. between friends and family whom I recommended Nord to, 9 in all, we are all experiencing the same problem. this ranges from Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara Ontario, Oregon, Arizona, Florida, and West Virginia, and all but one have open tickets, Nord says I’m the only one with this problem.

Really?? even when I send them the ticket numbers of the others they insist I’m the only one. I got a 3 day trial with HMA 2 weeks ago and did not have a single loss of the data stream. same with IPVanish last week, so the problem is with Nord AFAIC. Nord does not the will, or expertise to fix this and last week refused to refund the unused part of the 2 years I paid for. they have no phone number and refuse to call, so you are stuck with chats which lead to a waste of time, and their ticket system which they reply to when someone else in their tech team decides to reply (11 to date).

I have access to 3 different isp services and public wifi, the data stream dies on all, and on all my devices, pc, ipad, iphone, android phone, android box, and xbox.

I have been with 7 different VPN providers over the years, this one has to be the worst so far. I chose nord because they are away from the 14 eyes, and the 1 month I took before signing up for 2 years was flawless.

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Dear Tony,

I am sorry you had such an unpleasant experience with NordVPN. I hope the company has reached out to you and fixed your issues.

  16. stupidcache says:

You forgot to tell to the people that NORDVPN is not useful for watching netxflix in linux (almost you sacrifice A LOT performance using a stupid VM).

Smart Play, not available in Linux, is secure proxy service that helps to overcome geographical restrictions put on by several websites. Smart Play re-routes the user’s requests through a server located at a place where access to such blocked websites is allowed. This makes the websites think the user is physically present in such place, thereby granting it the access.

  17. Leek says:

I am active NordVPN user and also their beta tester.
So I can say, that those guys know what they are doing. Nord is really safe. Also they put huge effort on Netflix. I’ve tested several VPNS when was trying to access USA Netflix. Many of them say the work with Netflix, but in reality only Nord showed good result.

  18. P.P says:

Tor hides all your internet traffic by wrapping your connection into 3 different layers. It’s like an onion where these layers are stripped as they pass through each node. The only node where your browser activity is known is at the exit node. By adding a VPN to the framework and using Tor, you can hide your traffic from being read by anyone. With a Tor + VPN, you hide the traffic at the exit node as well, making it impossible (almost) for anyone to see what you are up to.

  19. kurtC says:

Well, if you are worried that your VPN will read your internet traffic then you should change your VPN. That’s why there is a big deal about whether the VPN keeps logs or not, the payment method it offers (Bitcoin instead of credit card) so that no records can be linked back to you.
Running a Tor locally through your VPN is some issues. For starters, you will be running the basic SSL connection with all its disadvantages and passing of keys. In addition to that, your entry point will be known as you will be running everything through the VPN and all your internet traffic from the laptop, PC, Smartphone and whatever will be passing through a single place, the VPN server. So it really doesn’t matter if you use a Tor or a VPN, your ISP will know that you are trying to hide your IP address and internet activities.
On the other hand, using a double VPN makes much more sense. Well, if you don’t trust your VPN or the entry point of Tor, then using a double VPN can provide you some security. But, Tor doesn’t hide your traffic beyond the basic SSL and since your internet traffic is passing through multiple VPN servers, you are just creating a lot of latency for yourself. A better way protecting your traffic from being read by your VPN is connecting to your destination with SSL through the VPN.

As much as I love Nord, you shouldn’t really be using their TOR VPN. It’s better to use their double VPN along with Tor, instead of just using TOR VPN. What Tor does is that it decrypts your VPN traffic and then encrypts it again before sending it over Tor network. Using a double VPN means you add more security and 2 hops before it reaches Tor.

  21. Normie says:

I think their Tor VPN is really useful and I have been using it for a while. However, the lack of information and documentations available for servers is a bit irritating. I mean, it would be good that the pushed routes are a bit more concerned about the IP address of the destination server, instead of assuming that you want all your traffic to be pushed through route and then to the outside.

I have been using NordVPN on Linux and I am very happy with their service. They now offer VPN clients for Android and iOS devices as well but previously they only offered it on Windows. But won’t have any problems in using NordVPN on any device by using the .ovpn configuration file. I am using their service on Linux and really like it how they offer CA and TLS certificates for download separately along with .ovpn files. This makes it easier for me to configure the service with Linux Network Manager. However, one problem that I faced was that the zip file didn’t contain some of the servers they offered. If they can fix this then NordVPN is a top notch service.
Their customer support is also very good and the encryption levels are also decent. They offer AES 256 encryption and RSA 4096 bit for key exchange, which is pretty good considering it’s the strongest encryption out there. If I am not wrong, they only offer TCP 443 and UDP 1194 ports but it also offers LZO Compression, which is a good sign. I only wish they also provided lower encryption keys for mobile devices so that the battery doesn’t run out quickly.
The speeds are also decent but very inconsistent at times. Not all servers are quick at all times as some are fast but others are slow. Although they offer wide selection of servers, I really don’t think their servers are top notch. Their performance can be seen during the holiday season as during Christmas, there was immense load on servers and I got very slow speeds. However, it really depends on your connection as well. If you have a fast connection then it should not matter but if your internet connection isn’t lightening fast then you can face bottlenecks.
NordVPN is pretty big on preserving its users privacy as they claim to keep no logs of your internet activities. This is a good sign and also that the company is based in Panama, making it free any kind of foreign jurisdiction. Also, they accept Bitcoin as payment which good for privacy. You can pay for their anonymously. One important note, NordVPN offers its own Tor over VPN service. Although having a double VPN does beef up your security but I wouldn’t advice to use the Tor VPN offered by Nord. This is because your internet traffic will be decrypted before sending it over Tor, so it kinds of defeats the purpose of having double security.

      Hi jjones,

Thanks for telling us about your experience with NordVPN. You have laid out the merits of this VPN service pretty well.

  23. fnsm says:

NordVPN ticks all the right boxes of being the best VPN. I am very happy with their service and would recommend it to anyone who is new to using a VPN.

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Hi fnsm,

It is always good to hear from a satisfied VPN user. Glad that you are happy with the service.

I recently bought NordVPN a week ago and the speeds are awesome. Previously I used PIA (Private Internet Access) for more than a year but there were many problems with it, and I really didn’t like their user interface, it was ugly to say the least.
I selected NordVPN because it’s cheaper than PIA and it offers great servers options. I can connect to any location of my choice and access different streaming services. Like if you want to watch Netflix USA, there are servers available for that and you can enjoy your favorite shows and movies in high quality.
The security and anonymity provided by NordVPN is also pretty good. The protocols allow me to switch between high security to high performance streaming. You can check out NordVPN using their 3 day free trial by contacting their customer support. If I remember correctly, I signed up for their service but didn’t pay yet. I then wrote an email to their customer support and they activated my 3 day free trial.

    Very bad service.
See my conversation on customer service.

    Hi. I want moneyback
    Brian в чате

Hello, may I ask what went wrong and why do you wish to cancel our service?

Slow program errors. IP addresses are in the blacklist. Once connected, you can identify my real ip on webrtc.
    overall I am very unhappy

WebRTC is a browser leak. You need to disable it on your browser: https://nordvpn.com/blog/important-notice-browser-security-hole-detected/

May I ask what services you were unable to access?

    I want moneyback
I do not like your service as a whole

I see that you have paid via bitcoin, I am sorry, but payments via bitcoin is not refundable, please check our terms of service: https://nordvpn.com/terms-of-service/

This our policy, you agreed with our terms of service upon purchasing your account.

This is the most disgusting site vpn that I’ve ever met
I will write reviews about you as the worst vpn provider.
    It’s outrageous!
I will write about this in all forums and blogs!
    You stole my money!

We do not, our terms of service clearly states that we do not refund bitcoin.
If you have any complaints, I would suggest to contact our sales team by email at [email protected]

Do you you have no right can decide to return the money or not!
You provide a service – I pay the money.
The service is not necessary – you return me the money!
    You illegally hold my money!
You’ll soon see at each site where you are – a review of your service.

No, we don’t. Everything is legal. We provide money back guarantee for 30 days, however payments via bitcoin are not refundable. I can’t provide a refund against our ToS, however you can write a complaint to our sales team at [email protected]

You know yourself, what you say? You decide to return money or not for yourself! Unless it can be legally ?!
Why do I have someone to complain and write email, to take my money! My money!

You paid your money for the service and agreed to the terms of service before making your payment.
These terms are the same now as they were when you have purchased the subscription.

Your terms are illegal! Who gave you the right to make such rules? Do you think that strange incomprehensible rules like your site to be perceived above the law? What you are kind of nonsense? There is a law on consumer protection! And I do not care what you have there for the rules! You submit to this law!
I do not care for your rules, when speech goes about the law. And the law requires you to give me back my money! No matter which way I paid for!

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Hi Yana,

It is unfortunate that you didn’t like the service. However, most VPNs do not offer refunds for Bitcoin.

  26. Tovis says:

I dont know how they can be most recommended logless VPN for god sick.
    – They leak your IPv6
    – No switch kill for internet connection
    — but worst of all THEY LEAK YOUR REAL IP—
If you using Windows (7) like me you are fuck up.
I was surfing all day and i normally do not turn off my PC but only switch it to sleep mode and even I set automatic reconnect and EVERY TIME i turn my PC into sleep mode and then woke up my PC their official application showed me that i am “CONNECTED” with green status but in real i was not connected and all of time i was surfing under MY REAL ADDRESS.

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Sad to hear that!

I recommend you to send an email to them if you have any issues.

    • theNPV says:

As a comment below mentioned, you’re likely leaking WebRTC requests which is caused by the browser not by NordVpn.

Signed up with a 70% discount and was super easy. The app is excellent and the speed is perfect.

Anyone reading this, research some more yourself. Nord is solid.

  27. Charlie Marks says:

    I currently have Nordvpn installed.
Although It is clearly stating that it is connected to Russia ISP
It is is fact connecting to US New York.

Discvovered this when Amazon UK stated that it could not deliver to US.
Checked ‘What is my ip address’, and yes it confirms New Youk.

    Very bad this, beware!

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Hello Charlie,

      Thank you for your feedback.

It is quite unfortunate that you face such issues with NordVPN.

Why don’t you try emailing them?

  28. Tech Advisor says:

NORD is VERY unstable and slow. It is not unusual to have to reconnect 10 times a day, and has hour+ long blackout periods.

The worst part is, to get a new connection; you often have to bounce from one location to another which is the antithesis of why we want VPN.

They also are crooks who do not honor their word and give a refund.

STAY AWAY, there are MUCH better service for close to the same price !!

    • Abdul Rehman says:

      Tech Advisor,

I am sorry you had a bad experience with the service. I hope you find a suitable alternative.

  29. Henry says:

claim to be offering 70%. On their registration form they enter the code “70off”
automatically. I tried to register for what appears to be a great offer. After
clicking register it simply says “ERROR Coupon code “70off” is not valid use a
valid coupon only”. Its their own code, they inserted! I then had to suffer
what they claim to be “customer service” having a futile discussion with this
imbesile with a purile attitude and contradictory

is offering 70% off, its automatically putting that into the registration
process with the code “70off”, but when I press register is say the

Visitor 39343896: Very frustrating when its my first

Molly: Yes, we are aware off this. Sale most likely ended and someone forgot

Visitor 39343896: It says he sale doesn’t end for 3

Molly: You may email us at [email protected] and we might still offer you a

Visitor 39343896: I don’t expect to take up more of

Molly: We do not force our potential clients to choose 🙂

    Molly: Sorry for the inconvenience.

Visitor 39343896: OK, if thats your attitude, I’ll
happily post my review of my experience with NordVPN and take my business

Molly: There is no attitude sir, we just do not force our potential customers
to choose us by compromising their own decision.

You sound like a real douche. NordVPN is actually really stable and very easy to setup. If you’re leaking your real IP, then take two seconds to actually read up why and how to fix it. It has nothing to do with NordVPN, your system is most likely leaking WebRTC requests which you’d know you have to fix if you’d taken two seconds to research.

    • Jersey says:

I’ve used NordVPN for 8 months and have no issues. The problems you’ve describe all sound like you have no idea how to use a PC, they are not NordVPN issues. You should simply stop using PCs since they’re obviously too hard for you to grasp. Use a public library from now on or ask someone to teach you PC basics.
