BlackVPN Review 2021
BlackVPN is not an affordable VPN service and has a slow server speed that doesn't unblock Netflix but suited for P2P. For the price of €9.50/mo, BlackVPN manages to earn a 2.2 stars rating.
BlackVPN is based in Hong Kong, outside of the 5 eyes jurisdiction. It doesn’t keep any logs or track users’ original IP address.
But it isn’t made for streaming. It has slow server speed and doesn’t unblock US Netflix. Most of all, when scanned for viruses, its Windows app contained Trojan and Riskware viruses.
This is not a VPN that could keep users’ identities private, but it exploits their need for a VPN.
Let’s discuss our full BlackVPN review.

My Rating Criteria
Here is a list of 8 factors that I have used to perform BlackVPN review:
- Pricing – How much does BlackVPN cost?
- Security – Encryption & features
- Jurisdiction – Is it located in a 5-eyes country?
- Speed – How fast is BlackVPN?
- Streaming – Does it work with Netflix?
- Leaks – Does it leak IP, DNS & WebRTC?
- Trustworthiness – Logs and customer support
- Compatibility – Apps and supported devices
Pricing – How much does BlackVPN cost?
BlackVPN has expensive pricing plans. It has 3 different packages in Euros currency. Here is a list of pricing plans (All Yearly Plans):
The Privacy Plan will let you access all VPN locations except US and UK servers. The Global Plan will let you access all of its VPN locations, while the TV Plan will only give you access to UK and US servers.
You can claim your refund within 14 days.
Here is a list of payment methods offered by BlackVPN:
- PayPal (Credit Cards, Gift Cards)
- Bitcoin & 40 Altcoin cryptocurrencies
BlackVPN offers a 3 days FREE trial on its Android and iOS app. The app comes with an OpenVPN and AES-256 bit encryption.
Considering all the packages, BlackVPN is quite expensive in terms of price. So if you’re looking for better VPN options at low rates, check out our specially curated list of best VPN deals to avail amazing discounts!
Security – Encryption & features
BlackVPN offers AES-256 bit encryption and 4096 bit RSA certificates only when you connect with OpenVPN protocol.
Other than OpenVPN, it supports PPTP and L2TP/IPSec.
The clients of BlackVPN come with a built-in kill switch that is activated whenever there is a chance of your location and browsing data being exposed.
Jurisdiction – Is it located in a 5-eyes country?
BlackVPN is based in Hong Kong, a country that does not fall under 5 eyes, 9 eyes, or 14 eyes country.
It is good news for users because BlackVPN wouldn’t have to hand over your data when asked by authorities. It is also one of the few VPNs that work in the UK.
It is really important to know where your VPN provider headquarters is located. For example, If it’s located in the United States, where the government or any private sector organization can request your logs from the VPN provider then it might be a good idea to say away from that VPN. We don’t leave our readers in the US alone as well. As long as they are protecting themselves with the best VPN for the US, they should be absolutely fine.
BlackVPN provides 31 servers that are available in 18 countries. They do not have servers in China or any other Middle Eastern countries though.
China and Middle East countries have the toughest internet restrictions. BlackVPN does not have obfuscation servers to bypass their restrictions.
Speed – How fast is BlackVPN?
As anticipated in my BlackVPN review, its speed is too slow. I connected to their Spain server to test for speed.
My internet speed before connecting to BlackVPN: 32 Mbps
My internet speed after connecting to the Spain server: 11.43 Mbps
Here are the test results:
Streaming–Does it work with Netflix?
No, it does not work with Netflix. It has only 2 servers in the US, there was no way it could unblock the US media library.
You require a large server count to unblock Netflix because if one server is blacklisted, you can try with another.
From their Privacy VPN package, you can download torrents all you want because those servers are P2P optimized.
Streaming lovers would love to hear what I will be telling them next.
BlackVPN works nicely with Kodi media player. Yes, it allows you to watch Live TV channels from all around the world.
But first, you must understand why do I need a VPN for Kodi. Then, you will be able to learn this VPNs potential.
Leaks – Does it leak IP, DNS & WebRTC?
BlackVPN was able to pass all the leak tests. I tested for leaks by connecting to their Spain server.
Here are the test results:
I scanned BlackVPNs Windows file for any viruses. There were 6 viruses found. These viruses were all Trojans and Riskware which can be a great threat to your online privacy.
You can see the test results below:
Trustworthiness– Logs and customer support
- Logs of your IP
- Logs of online activities
- Log of the Email address
- Record of Payment
Nevertheless, BlackVPN is entitled to take necessary action when you are using its services for:
- Harming others
- Using P2P on UK, US, and Singapore Servers
In our BlackVPN review, I found that it has good customer support. It has 24/7 live chat support, Tickets, and FAQs.
The response time is perfect so there’s no way you’re walking away disappointed.
Compatibility – Apps and supported devices
BlackVPN is compatible with Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, and Routers.
You can configure BlackVPN easily on your DD-WRT router to liberate your Internet and breakthrough all geo-restrictions.
VPN Comparison between BlackVPN and ExpressVPN
Here is a quick comparison between the two providers based on features and price. Let’s have a look at them:
|Servers||3000+ in 94 Countries||31 in 18 Countries|
|Compatibility||All Devices||Windows, Linux, Routers, Android & iOS|
|Jurisdiction||The British Virgin Islands||Hong Kong|
|Logging Policy||Zero Logs||It does NOT log your activities|
|Customer Support||Live Chat & Email Support||Live Chat and Email|
Alternative of BlackVPN
With BlackVPN, you get some excellent features to boost up your cybersecurity and provide you access to a wide array of geo-restricted content. However, some users might want more than that.
These users might be looking for more advanced encryption, a wider range of servers, or some other features not provided by BlackVPN. For them, there are options available.

Do I Recommend BlackVPN?
No, by no means I recommend BlackVPN.
BlackVPN prices are way too high for a VPN that is not even an industry leader. It isn’t the best VPN for streaming purposes considering its server speed is too slow and it doesn’t unblock Netflix.
BlackVPN has only 31 servers. That’s a small server count when compared with the price they are charging.
But its Windows client had 6 Trojans and Riskware. This is critical to your online privacy.
Overall, I didn’t like the performance of this VPN.
