Is SaferWeb really safe?

SaferWeb is not safe at all. It tracks your logs and activity and clearly mentions in its privacy policy that it may share your data with third parties. That’s a privacy risk when it comes to users who end up using this VPN service.

SaferWeb VPN is a UK-based VPN service that is a part of Endurance International Group Inc. SaferWeb falls under 5 eyes country jurisdiction that shares intelligence with other country members.

It doesn’t have live chat support that could assist users in troubleshooting their software. It only has 71 servers having slow speed.

Find out if this VPN is safe to use in detail in our SaferWeb VPN review.

You can read our other VPN reviews and compare them for yourself.

My Rating Criteria

Below you will find a list of factors that I used to judge the performance of SaferWeb:

  1. Pricing – How much does SaferWeb VPN cost?
  2. Security – Encryption & features
  3. Jurisdiction – Is it located in a 5-eyes country?
  4. Speed – How fast is SaferWeb VPN?
  5. Streaming – Does it work with Netflix?
  6. Leaks – Does it leak IP, DNS & WebRTC?
  7. Trustworthiness – Logs and customer support
  8. Compatibility – Apps and supported devices

Pricing – How much does SaferWeb VPN cost?

Saferweb is not so cheap when it comes to its monthly plan. Have a look at the 2 different pricing plans offered by SaferWeb:

Since both plans are based monthly, you will be wondering what the difference is?

Here it is…

You get access to only 7 locations when you subscribe to its Premium service, while you get to access 30+ locations and connect to 3 devices simultaneously with Super Premium service.

The disadvantage is, there is no Yearly Plan. That’s a disappointment.

Have a look at ExpressVPN and Surfshark price that offers an affordable price with a larger server network.

In this SaferWeb review, I learned that this service offers a 30-days money-back guarantee.

Payment Methods

These are the payment methods offered by SaferWeb:

  • MasterCard
  • Visa
  • Amex
  • Delta
  • PayPal

The good news for privacy advocates is that the service plans to add Bitcoin soon. If it does proceed to do such a thing, the service will attract more customers.

Security – Encryption & features

SaferWeb uses the highest bank-level encryption, i.e., 256-bit. It also uses the highest VPN protocols to give you complete online privacy. Have a look at these protocols:

  • IKeV2 comes with 256-bit data encryption keys and ensures strong online protection with blazing fast speeds.
  • PPTP comes with 128-bit encryption keys for high-speed streaming, downloading, and unblocking media but does not offer robust security.
  • OpenVPN comes with 256-bit military-grade encryption.
  • SSL with 256-bit encryption

With all this, there is an option to utilize the advanced L2TP/IPsec protocol as well.

Jurisdiction –Is SaferWeb Safe?

SaferWeb is a UK-based company that falls under 5 eyes countries. It is a risk to trust a VPN company that lies under 5 eyes country because whenever the authorities ask for users’ data, they are bound to oblige.

If SaferWeb logs data that we will discuss in the next section, there’s a problem trusting this VPN service.

Check if your VPN service provider falls under 5 eyes, 9 eyes, and 14 eyes country.

SaferWeb has 71 servers in 24 countries. The server count is too low, that’s for sure, considering the cost of this VPN.

Prime regions covered by this VPN include Dublin, London, Sydney, New York, Amsterdam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Burges, Frankfurt, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Tokyo.

Speed – How fast is SaferWeb VPN?

SaferWeb VPN speed is not so fast. I connected SaferWeb VPN to the Amsterdam server to check for the speed test.

My internet speed without a VPN connection was around 31 Mbps, and once I connected to the Amsterdam server, my speed decline drastically and yielded a speed of 12.32 Mbps.

Here are the speed test results:

Here you see, the speed declined by 45%

Streaming –Does it work with Netflix?

If you’re wondering that SaferWeb will unblock US Netflix with only 21 US servers, then you’re probably mistaken. It does not unblock US Netflix.

Netflix has a strong VPN detection technology. It automatically detects blocks of the particular IP. Only those VPNs get successful that offers a large server network.

SaferWeb has P2P-optimized servers that work tremendously well with torrenting. These are actually called Supercharged servers.

These servers are ideal for users looking to download files through P2P & Torrent services, stream live events & shows.

In case you are not interested in the torrenting activity, you can still opt for Kodi to accomplish your media streaming cravings.

That said, after using a free VPN Kodi service, you can watch Live TV Channels to your liking securely. Here is the tutorial on how to install a VPN on Kodi for your ease.

Leaks – Does it leak IP, DNS & WebRTC?

According to the SaferWeb review I performed, it did NOT leak any IP, DNS, and WebRTC. I connected to the same Amsterdam server and then ran the test.

Here is the screenshot that SaferWeb passed the test:

Is SaferWeb Safe? – Logs and customer support

SaferWeb keeps all kinds of logs and shares your data with third parties as it’s written in their privacy policy.

The data it does collect for service delivery purposes includes:

  • Username
  • Email address
  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • Geographical location
  • IP address (critical)

It also mentions that they can share users’ personal information with:

  • Our partners
  • Third-parties
  • Legal reasons

Hence, they admit that they can collect critical information such as your original IP address and share it with third parties that you don’t even know. Not safe at all.

This is actually the Privacy Policy of Endurance International Group that owns SaferWeb.

Customer Support

There are only 2 ways you can get customer support from SaferWeb. One is the Knowledgebase, and the other is Email.

It’s disappointing to see that there’s no live chat support. The response time on email is 12 hours.

Compatibility – Apps and supported devices

SaferWeb VPN app is available for  Windows, Mac OSX, Android, iOS, and Chrome.

An advantage of this service is its compatibility with multiple devices, including Xbox, PlayStation, Apple TV, Chromebook, Amazon Fire, Google Nexus, Surface, and Blackberry.

SaferWeb VPN Windows Client

To adequately review SaferWeb, I tested the windows client of the service. On the first attempt, the user-friendly client impressed me.

With the VPN connecting, disconnecting, changing between servers are a click away.

SaferWeb VPN Android App

SaferWeb’s android app also comes with the same easy-to-use interface (like its other counterparts) that provides the simplest of options to deliver one-click privacy and connectivity.

The SaferVPN android app offers:

  • Robust privacy & anonymity
  • Access to all servers

Alternatives to SaferWeb

Due to its limited number of servers and somewhat limited features, some users might prefer alternative VPNs. They can read the reviews below:

Do I Recommend SaferWeb VPN?

No, I don’t recommend SaferWeb VPN.

SaferWeb VPN keeps track of your logs and clearly mentions that it shares your data with third parties and their partners.

It has a low server count (71), and its speed is not so fast. If you try to access US Netflix, you won’t be able to do it because all of their servers are banned.

SaferWeb is not a safe VPN to use. It keeps your logs, and that will always be a threat to users’ online privacy.

  1. Kevin Westby says:

August 2017 – They have closed down the Amsterdam, Chicago, London, New York, Singapore, Sydney and p2p-Netherlands servers – Overall poor service and incompetent help desk. I dropped their services after being unable to obtain connection after a long period of experiencing unstable connections. Oh, and when connection is available, it is generally slow in comparison with their competitors.

  2. Shirley Dawson says:

So if I have a desktop computer, notebook computer, a tablet like an ipad, and 3 iphones in my household, would I have to pay extra to cover all 7 devices?

    • admin says:

      Hi Shirley,

SaferWeb allows 3 multi-logins, which means that you can cover 3 of your devices using a single account account. Since you have 7 devices in your household, you would need more than one account to cover them all.

  3. Donna Wood says:

How does this work if I am at another home or place with WiFi – and I want to use their Wifi while I am there – will I still be able to connect to my Sister’s or daughters Wifi automatically?

    • admin says:

      Hello Donna,

Thanks for your query. You can easily use it where you go and on any WiFi / internet connection available; be it your home, workplace or someone else’s WiFi.

After being connected to the internet, just open SaferWeb app or VPN software on your preferred device, select the desired server location, and use the VPN without any interruptions.
