Top 5 Cheap VPN Services of 2018 – Cheap in Price, Excellent in Quality

There are countless cheap VPN services in the market, but the cheapest VPN service may not necessarily be the best one for you. I believe that a generic comparison of prices is not fair to cheap VPN users and VPN service providers.

VPN users need to know what each cheap VPN service provider offers and how minor differences can impact user experience. For this reason, I decided to build my list of cheap VPN services on an unorthodox comparison. I evaluated the industry’s leading VPN service providers on the basis of the prices that they offer for 1 month plans as well as the prices that they offer for Yearly plans.

Distinct Features To Look For In A Cheap VPN

The hallmark of a cheap VPN service is its price, but that should not be the only feature you should consider when selecting a VPN. There are other distinct features that a low priced VPN should have. To help you out, we have come up with the following attributes you should look for when purchasing a cheap VPN service provider:

  • Performance: It is critical that the VPN you select offers the best performance regardless of the price. You should test different servers of your VPN provider to gauge its overall performance. The best VPNs should not compromise your internet speeds in any way.
  • Number of Servers Offered: The power of VPN lies in its server network and global spread. With servers in major location around the world, you can access any website or streaming service if your choice. For starters, look for servers in US, UK, Australia, and Europe.
  • Protocols & Encryption Strength: A VPN can be used for many purposes but the most important of them all is the protection it offers against different cyber threats. This is achieved through protocols & encryption levels offered. You should look for at least OpenVPN protocol along with AES 256 bit encryption level in the best cheap VPN service.
  • Reliability: This is where uptime and service quality comes in. It is important that even the cheapest VPNs offer maximum uptime (99.99%). You should check if the VPN offers protection against VPN disconnections, such as internet kill switch.
  • Level of Customer Support Offered: It is important that a VPN offers different avenues for support to its customers. You should look out for live chat support feature, knowledge base, FAQs, email ticketing support and any other support method offered by a VPN service.
  • Number of Simultaneous Connections Offered: A VPN should be able to cover multiple devices in your home. The best cheap VPN should offer 3 or more simultaneous connections.
  • Is The Use of P2P & Torrents Allowed? Not many VPNs allow the use of file sharing services. If you are looking for a VPN that allows torrenting, then make sure that the provider offers this feature. Here are some best torrenting VPNs which allow this feature.

How Much Does It Cost To Setup A VPN?

If you consider the overall prices of different VPN services, almost all of them offer packages less than $10.00 per month. By our reckoning, this is a reasonable cost to setup a VPN. For this nominal cost, you get online privacy and security, anonymity, unlimited internet accessibility, and much more.

Some VPN providers also offer free apps for Android and iOS devices, allowing users to enjoy the service without any cost. And, if a VPN offers free trial, you can try out the VPN service provider, test its performance, service quality, and other features before making the final decision.

What does a VPN do?

A Virtual Private Network or VPN, is like an extended network through which two or more devices connect over the internet safely and securely. A VPN creates secure tunnels between your device and its server, through which all your internet traffic passes. It also encrypts your internet data packets while it is being tunneled. This way, any hacker, spammer, phishes, snooper, surveillance agency, and other cyber criminals can’t access your sensitive information nor can they identify your true location.

Cheap VPN UK for Complete Anonymity & Privacy

Like it or not, UK is amongst the nations with formidable cyber surveillance powers. After the parliament passed ‘Investigatory Power Bill’, authorities now have unprecedented power to record communication data of British netizens. Similarly, the government will have its own data storage centers where it can store users browsing history and metadata.

Even Edward Snowden stated that this is “the most extreme surveillance in the history of western democracy.” This shows the extent to which the authorities are willing to go to wield their powers. One way of circumventing this privacy invading legislation is to use a VPN service.

With a virtual private network enabled on your device, your internet traffic bounces around the world, making it difficult for anyone tracks anything. Likewise, a VPN encrypts the data as well, not allowing the authorities the read the contents of your web traffic. There are plenty of VPNs available for securing your privacy. The cheap VPN UK listed earlier in our guide will help to keep you anonymous at all times.

Cheapest VPN for Kodi

Kodi is an ultimate source of online streaming when it comes to watching TV shows, movies, cartoons and much more. However, you may face geo-restriction issue if you try to access different channels available on the platform. Hence, you must use a VPN for Kodi to bypass the online restrictions and access unlimited blocked content from anywhere.

Cheap VPN for Router

A convenient way of securing all your devices is by setting up a VPN on router. However, with router costs exceeding $100, we would advise you to use a cheap VPN for router. With the cheap VPN providers costing under $3.00 month, this is a pretty sweet deal in our opinion.

Many VPN services are compatible with routers. The one’s we have listed above offer compatibility with wide range of routers. However, if you were looking for a router that is secure and doesn’t hinder your ability to change its settings, then we would recommend DD-WRT routers. They have open source firmware, are safe from any kind of backdoors, and are almost all VPN providers support them.

Remain Safe with a Cheap VPN for Torrenting

Downloading torrents and sharing files over P2P services is seen as taboo in many countries. There are strict cyber laws that prohibit the use of torrents and have deemed it as illegal. And, if you are caught while torrenting, then you could face severe repercussions. This could lead to DMCA notices, fines, lawsuits, and even jail time.

So how are you caught while using torrents?

It is your IP address that gives you away to copyright trolls and ISPs, allowing them to trace your true identity. As soon as you add a torrent file to a torrent client (such as BitTorrent or uTorrent), your IP address is visible to everyone downloading and uploading the same torrent file. Similarly, your ISP can also monitor your internet traffic.

One of the ways to protect your privacy while torrenting is by using a VPN service. A VPN makes you anonymous by hiding your original IP address and also encrypts your internet traffic. Now, there are numerous VPN services you can choose from. The low priced VPN services that we have mentioned in our post will help you protect against DMCA’s, fines, and allow you to enjoy torrenting hassle free.

Access Netflix Libraries with a Low Cost VPN

As you probably have heard by now, Netflix expanded its streaming service into 190 new countries earlier this year [2018]. With this expansion, viewers all over world got to experience the streaming power of Netflix as it removed the geographic barriers altogether.

However, when you compare the content libraries from each Netflix region, you will see a drastic difference in the number of titles available. The disparity of shows and movies in the new regions is a setback for all binges watchers. But don’t worry; there is a way to watch your favorite title on Netflix, no matter where you are located.

By changing your IP address to United States using a cheap VPN, you can access US Netflix library. The US version currently hosts the highest content library. So, if you can’t find a show, movie, documentary, or any other title in region’s Netflix, then get hold of a VPN service and access US Netflix with ease.

Do Low Priced VPN Keep Logs?

A VPN service is an effective tool that safeguards your online privacy and protects your sensitive data from the most heinous of cyber threats. That said, if a VPN service keeps logs of your internet activities then it is no good. Such VPN services can hand over these logs to the authorities and in case they are hacked, your details could land into the wrong hands.

Therefore, it is important that a VPN guarantees complete anonymity and has a ‘zero log policy’. And, it is not necessary that a low priced VPN keeps logs of your internet activities. When you are purchasing a VPN, go thought their privacy policy and look for the data they record and store.

Economical VPN Solutions for Small Business

One of the biggest threats to any business, small or big, is of data theft. There are numerous criminals, competitors, and others alike that are looking to get their hands on sensitive corporate data and use it to their advantage. Similarly, many businesses require their employees to work offshore or from home or have to travel to different destinations for business purposes.

According to a report by Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC), there are more than 780 data breaches in USA alone in 2015. This figure is continuously on the rise and it is expected that more data theft incidents will be observed in 2018.

Therefore, the use of VPN for small businesses becomes critical. A VPN provides secure and encrypted tunnel through which workers can connect to business networks, without the fear of data being breached. So if you own a small business, there are numerous economical VPN providers you can choose from.

Medals for Distinct Features

For Protocols & Encryption Strength – PureVPN

PureVPN gets a medal for distinction, because only PureVPN appeared to be offering SSTP & IKEv2 in addition to the standard three that every VPN service provider in the industry seems to be offering (PPTP, OpenVPN and L2TP/IPSec protocols).

For Server Base Strength – PureVPN & IPVanish

PureVPN has a server spread of over 500+ servers, while IPVanish boasts a server strength of around 180+ servers. At first sight, this may appear to be a landslide-win for  PureVPN. On account of this fact, I decided that PureVPN and IPVanish share the Medal for Distinction for Server Base Strength.

The Cheapest of them All

PureVPN  wins the competition with a clear lead. IPVanish comes in at second place with a very slight comparative difference in the 1 month subscription and the per month cost that averages out in their 12 month plan.
