TorrentPrivacy VPN Review 2022

TorrentPrivacy is primarily a BitTorrent proxy that offers a freemium VPN service to torrent users. It is available at an expensive $4/03/month price. It has 5+ servers globally that dont assist Netflix. It received 2.8 stars rating during the review.

The UK-based VPN provider TorrentPrivacy was introduced in 2007 and has been serving torrents with privacy and anonymity needs.

Surprisingly, renowned torrent giants including TorrentFreak and Torrent Reactor endorse the provider. This boosts up TorrentPrivacy’s potential for becoming the best VPN service.

However, TorrentPrivacy works more like a safe torrenting solution, rather than a full-fledged VPN service.

According to this TorrentPrivacy VPN review, it has only 5+ servers in only 3 countries worldwide. On the other hand, VPNs like ExpressVPN or NordVPN deliver servers to their users in huge numbers.

The story does not stop here as it does not unblock US Netflix and has a limited compatibility feature. Therefore, these reasons are enough for me to not recommend this proxy cum free VPN service to netizens across the world.

TorrentPrivacy VPN review – My Rating Criteria

I have examined this UK-based provider based on my own 9 steps criteria that include:

  1. Jurisdiction – Where is this VPN located??
  2. Security – Is TorrentPrivacy Secure?
  3. Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
  4. Servers – Is TorrentPrivacy P2P compatible?
  5. Speed – On the Lower side?
  6. Streaming – Does it unblock US Netflix?
  7. Compatibility – Apps and supported devices
  8. Pricing – What is the cost of TorrentPrivacy?
  9. Trustworthiness – Trustpilot ratings, Reddit & Customer Support

Jurisdiction – Where is this VPN located?

TorrentPrivacy is a UK-based proxy cum VPN service. The country does not bode well with privacy-conscious users and is also a proud member of the 5 eyes group.

It may share its users’ data with other members of the group as and when required.

Security – Is TorrentPrivacy Secure?

This provider does not keep any logs. In addition, they regularly remove temporary cache from their servers to insure that user information remains safe.

Ironically, the service headquarters is situated in the UK, a 5 eyes ally thus, the service has to abide by mandatory data retention rules by hook or crook.

If I analyze TorrentPrivacy in terms of tunneling protocols and encryption, this VPN is pretty competent.

It offers OpenVPN and PPTP protocols that ensure airtight security and protection to torrent downloads. As the provider is mainly a BitTorrent proxy service, it has not added other tunneling protocols in its armory.

Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests

TorrentPrivacy is secure in terms of IP, DNS, and WebRTC leaks as well. Here are the screenshots:

WebRTC Leak:

Virus Test

I tested its Windows app through VirusTotal and received no malware at all.

Servers – Is Torrenprivacy P2P compatible?

The service only offers 8+ servers in 3 countries globally. Consequently, users may face problems while connecting to their preferred servers.

Being a torrent protection provider, TorrentPrivacy only has servers in P2P-friendly countries. With this VPN, you get the option to connect with the servers from the United States, Netherlands, and Sweden. The provider doesn’t exactly specify how many servers are on offer.

Speed – On the Lower side

TorrentPrivacy does not deliver appreciable connection speeds to its users. When I connected to its Swedish server to check its speed, I was able to attain only Mbps download speed in return:

As you can see, there is a major decline of 90% approx in speed.

Streaming – Does it unblock US Netflix?

Sadly, TorrentPrivacy does not offer Netflix unblocking features. You should subscribe to other VPNs like ExpressVPN, Surfshark, NordVPN or PureVPN to accomplish your Netflix streaming mission.

Compatibility – Apps and supported devices

TorrentPrivacy is not a viable solution compatibility-wise. Yes, you read that correctly. There is no app for mobile devices be it Android or iOS.

You can only download the service on Windows and Mac devices appropriately. In addition to this, you cannot install the provider on your other streaming devices like Firestick or Smart TVs.

Pricing – What is the cost of TorrentPrivacy?

TorrentPrivacy has relatively expensive pricing plans in its bucket. At present, they deliver three types of pricing plans and these are:

  • 3 Months ($21.75) (save $7.25)
  • 1 Year plan ($66.75) (save$66.75)
  • 2 Year plan ($96.75) (save $32.25)

However, they only provide two payment methods i.e. PayPal and Bitcoin. They have to increase other payment options like Credit Cards to offer complete peace of mind to their existing as well as potential subscribers.

On the brighter side, they do have an exclusive 7 days free trial benefit that allows you to examine its performance on your Windows or Mac devices.

But again, they are way behind in the case of multi-login as they don’t have such a feature in their arsenal.  If you have subscribed to their premium plans and want to get a refund, you can avail of the said advantage within 30 days.

Remember, users have to pay for a BitTorrent proxy service that includes a free VPN service.

Trustworthiness – TrustPilot ratings, Reddit & Customer Support

TorrentPrivacy has not received any customer review on Trustpilot whatsoever.

From a users’ privacy point of view, it is a big concern since the site is a famous user review site that offers genuine feedback about different products and services.

Similarly, Reddit users have not provided any response about TorrentPrivacy. This is again an area where the service needs drastic improvement.

Customer Support

On the support front, the service has limited options for its users. These are Email, Social Media, FAQs, and Contact Us. I would be hoping to see other attributes of support function in the shape of live chat and phone calls too.

You can send them your questions or feedback through email. Furthermore, you may go through the FAQ section to get awareness about the product in detail.

Comparison between ExpressVPN and TorrentPrivacy

In this below-described table, you can find the salient attributes of both these VPNs that will help you in deciding about your privacy appropriately.

Do I Recommend TorrentPrivacy?

No, I would not recommend TorrentPrivacy at any cost. If you want a more reliable and costless solution for torrenting then I recommend taking a look at the best free VPNs working for torrents.

The service would have to improve its performance in different areas like jurisdiction, pricing, speed, server spread, Netflix unblocking, compatibility, and support to make a mark in the VPN industry in near future.

Undoubtedly, the provider is the new-age BitTorrent proxy tool that is embedded with a free VPN service. But, it will have to work on the above-mentioned factors to improve its customer base to a new plane.

Based on the above TorrentPrivacy VPN review, the service has earned a 2.8/5.0 stars rating overall.
