Norton Secure VPN Review 2020
Norton Secure is a US-based VPN service with only 28 server locations is not suited for Netflix,. It has a bank-grade encryption which seems reasonable. For the price of $3.33/mo, it manages to offer a 2.5 stars service.
There’s no denying the impact of Norton products in Antivirus and Malware protection industry, but can it be said the same for Norton Secure VPN?
It is quite possible for a company to master at one product and fail at another. Norton VPN may be a good Anti-virus product but its VPN is not as good.
It is too expensive, covers only 28 server locations, and has slow server speed. It doesn’t unblock Netflix for that matter as well.
Today we look at the features, price, encryption, logging policy, and so much more in our Norton VPN review.
Before I begin reviewing Norton VPN, you can have a look at our entire VPN reviews 2020 section.
My Rating Criteria
I have used these 8 factors to review Norton Secure VPN. Have a look at them:
- Pricing – How much does Norton VPN cost?
- Security – Encryption & features
- Jurisdiction – Is it located in a 5-eyes country?
- Speed – How fast is Norton VPN?
- Streaming – Does it work with Netflix?
- Leaks – Does it leak IP, DNS & WebRTC?
- Trustworthiness – Logs and customer support
- Compatibility – Apps and supported devices
Pricing – How much does Norton VPN cost?
It’s pricing plans are pricey enough. When you review Norton VPN thoroughly, you would find that it has a unique pricing package and is unlike any other VPN services pricing plans that I normally encounter.
It has separate pricing for 1 device, 5 devices, and 10 devices protection.
- 1 device protection
- 5 devices protection
- 10 devices protection
These prices are without sales tax. By looking at these prices, one could simply assume it is an expensive VPN.
If you review Norton Secure VPN, you would realize that it has introduced another Norton VPN package that has additional features called Norton 360 Deluxe.
This is available at $59.99 annually excluding applicable sales tax.
Another thing that any service provider would be hesitant to share is their renewal price list.
The renewal price is higher than the original price when you first subscribed to this service. It has a 60-days money-back guarantee, which is really good.
Norton is quite affordable in terms of price. However, if you’re looking for a better VPN at lower rates, check out our specially curated list of best VPN deals of 2019 right now.
Security – Encryption & features
This review of Norton VPN indicates that it uses Bank-Grade encryption, the type of encryption where you can browse the internet on a public Wi-Fi safely.
However, it doesn’t mention anything about protocols. It does block online advertisements so that’s a bonus on a security part.
Norton 360 Deluxe offers multiple layers of protection with these additional features:
- Real-time threat protection
- Parental controls
- Dark web monitoring
- 50 GB secure cloud backup
- 100% virus protection promise
Jurisdiction – Is it located in a 5-eyes country?
As per this Norton VPN review, all of Norton (Symantec) operation are headquartered in Mountain View, California.
Any VPN service located in the US means it can hand-out your information to authorities if the US government issues a warrant.
US may be a safe place for an Antivirus company to run its operation, but VPN is a different business.
United States is a member of a 5 eyes intelligence sharing country. It has the authority to ask companies to share users’ information.
Learn which VPN companies does not fall under 5, 9, or 14 eyes countries.
Norton Wi-Fi Privacy VPN has 28 server locations and to be honest that’s not enough.
I mean, even a free VPN has at least 10 server locations and Norton isn’t the cheapest in the VPN market by far.
So these numbers don’t make sense.
During the Norton VPN service review, I discovered that they do not have obfuscated servers either. These servers use to unblock restrictions in countries where there are extreme restrictions.
Speed – How fast is Norton VPN?
I managed to run a speed test for Norton VPN review, and I found that it offers not-so-good speed.
Before I connected to their US server, my internet internet speed was 31 Mbps. Once I connected to this VPN, it declined to 11.29 Mbps.
Here is the speed test result:
Streaming – Does it work with Netflix?
During this Norton internet security VPN review, I performed the test. It was obvious to see that it didn’t unblock Netflix.
With only 28 servers, it is hard to say that a VPN will unblock US Netflix, Hulu, or other streaming services.
VPNs that are headquartered in the US are much easier to block their network from accessing streaming websites.
It was, however, good to see that it works best to hide your IP while streaming videos on Kodi.
There are other such top-rated VPNs for Kodi that works best while anonymous streaming.
Similarly, you may anticipate hassles while unblocking other streaming platforms like Hulu and Kodi.
Leaks – Does it leak IP, DNS & WebRTC?
Norton VPN easily passed the leak test. I tested for any leaks using its US server.
You will find the test results below:
Trustworthiness – Logs and customer support
Norton Secure VPN clearly mentions on its VPN page that it does not keep usage logs, but it does collect connection logs.
- Subscriber Information for communication purposes
- Bandwidth usage
- Mobile device data.
But there’s a lot more.
We dug a bit deeper on ‘Norton Privacy Note’ and we found:
All your information such as your personal information, telephone numbers, email, location, and so much more are being accessed by Norton VPN.
According to this Norton VPN app review, it is based in US, this doesn’t matter. Eventually, your information will fall into the hands of the authorities that you dread the most.
Logging is an important aspect in a VPN. I would recommend you to read our guide on VPN services and their logging policies.
It’s live chat support was unsatisfactory. During my Norton VPN review, I was disappointed to see that it took them longer to answer my question.
Might be that they couldn’t understand my question regarding VPN because they’re too involved with an antivirus product.
Whatever it may be, I wasn’t satisfied at all.
Compatibility – Apps and supported devices
This Norton secure VPN review reveals that the brand is available for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.
Including all the features of a VPN, these devices also include an ad tracker that helps you keep your online activity from being tracked by advertisers.
It gives you complete Wi-Fi protection with bank-grade encryption and also gives you access to your favorite websites while you’re traveling.

No, I do not recommend Norton VPN.
I would certainly not recommend my readers to buy Norton VPN and there are certain reason why I say so.
First, it is headquartered in US, which makes it compulsory for Norton to share your data to authorities if asked upon. Second, it is too expensive. At $3.33, you can protect only 1 device at a time which is ridiculous.
It has slow speed and a small server count as well. Not worth it.
