Turbo VPN – Company Background

Before delving into the nitty-gritties of the VPN, it is important to answer: What is Turbo VPN?

Turbo VPN is a China-based online privacy provider that allows users to obtain online freedom without any subscription. The service offers a limited number of servers and is compatible with Android and iOS platforms only.

Moreover, according to the Google Play store, 50 million users have already downloaded this app. This makes it one of the most popular VPNs in the world.

The provider has recently developed a website but it contains little information about the company.

With the free version of the app, you get a barrage of ads. However, the paid version is ad-free.

What I liked about Turbo VPN?

To the surprise of many privacy advocates, Turbo VPN is not some frail proxy service with no security measures for the users.

Instead, it boasts some impressive features that prevent IP leaks and allow you to access geo-restricted content.

The complete overview of Turbo VPN’s strengths is below.

Free Service

Free VPNs are a bone of contention in the online privacy circles.

Some are outright hostile towards these tools, thinking them as traps set to befool naïve users. Others look at these services on a case-to-case basis.

I take the latter approach.

Undoubtedly, some free VPNs are guilty of selling customer data. However, providers like Turbo VPN prioritize customer privacy over anything else.

As the review will reveal further elaborate, Turbo VPN is a far cry from dubious free VPNs that lurk the annals of the internet.

Protocols & Encryption

Readers of this Turbo VPN review will be reassured to know that Turbo VPN utilizes the OpenVPN tunneling protocol.

This protocol is open sourced, getting constantly upgraded by a community of techies.

It gets better.

OpenVPN sports a military grade encryption that has so far proven to be impenetrable.

So much so, that even corporate giants who invest billions in cybersecurity use this encryption level.

Compatible with Netflix

On a cursed day, someone in Netflix decided to make separate video libraries for different countries.

This resulted in American subscribers getting the premium content. Shows like House and Mad Men ended up only on American Netflix.

To fight this discrimination, netizens turned toward VPNs. With a VPN enabled, users fooled Netflix into thinking that they were logged in from the US.

Unfortunately, this didn’t last for long as Netflix imposed powerful firewall to block geo-dodging.

Still, some VPNs are continuing to help users get past Netflix’s geo-restrictions. Turbo VPN is among the providers that have specified servers for this purpose.

However, these servers are not available for free. You will need to pay the provider to access Netflix with more freedom.

This is somewhat comprehensible as both of these streaming services have strong VPN detection systems. Therefore, one cannot expect a free VPN service to bypass the geo-restrictions imposed by these services.

Conversely, Turbo VPN unblocks YouTube in countries where the site is officially banned. For this very reason, Turbo VPN is extremely popular in countries like Iran and China.

TurboVPN for Kodi

Turbo VPN review highlights that the service allows you to watch your desired media content on Kodi. However, I would recommend the users to opt VPN for Kodi because you have to secure your online privacy from legal troubles.

Likewise, the famous streaming platform fetches content from torrents and other sources. This is how users are able to watch their preferred TV shows or movies through best Kodi add-ons.

Conversely, you won’t have much luck using Turbo VPN for Firestick.

Turbo VPN P2P/Torrenting

Torrents empowers us to download heavy files through a fast and user-friendly method. But it also exposes our system to individuals with malicious intentions.

This is where VPNs come to our rescue. They allow us to perform torrenting with peace of mind.

Despite that, Turbo VPN does not discourage the users from torrenting. It neither throttles your bandwidth for torrenting nor does it suspend the service.

No DNS or WebRTC Leaks

Simply put, leaks are a nightmare for online privacy seekers.

They expose your identity without before you even realize what has exactly happened.

DNS and WebRTC are the two common forms of IP leaks. They occur when the VPN tunnel fails to mask your actual IP address.

This is the reason why I tested Turbo VPN for DNS and WebRTC leaks. The results showed that this VPN is safe.

What I did not like about Turbo VPN?

Despite rounding up an exquisite package of online privacy, Turbo has several drawbacks. They are outlined below:

TurboVPN Logging Policy

Since this VPN provider offers free service, it is only natural that you would aks; “Does Turbo VPN keep logs?” The short answer is: Yes.

Reading this TurboVPN review, you will be disappointed to know that the VPN stores tons of user information.

Apparently, the data is logged for variety of reasons.

And it gets worse as third parties are also involved in the process.

Although this isn’t the worst logging policy I have reviewed, it is right up there.

Thankfully, there are many VPNs that do not keep logs to anonymize your online activities.

Slow Connection Speed

It is all in the name. Turbo VPN does not market its geo-dodging ability or IP masking feature. Instead, it boasts about the Hare-like speed of the VPN.

So being a skeptic, I had to test the Turbo VPN connection speed to see what’s what.

And this was not the only reason for conducting the test. Speed has its own importance regardless of what the provider claims.

After all, a VPN that kills your connection speed is not much use even if it provides unpresented privacy.

This was the speed before connecting with the VPN:

After connecting to Turbo VPN the speed decreased drastically.

This is one of the biggest speed drops I have witnessed with a VPN. And it does not bode well for the overall value of the service.

Located in China

Any VPN outside the influence of 14 eyes countries can keep your privacy secured. However, China does not fit this category.

It is quite possibly the worst place to be an internet user.

For Chinese netizens, websites such as Facebook and YouTube are inaccessible. The government has used a powerful mechanism called the Great Firewall to impose these pervasive restrictions.

More importantly, VPNs are heavily regulated in the country with only the government approved ones getting the green light.

Although we are not sure if Turbo VPN works in coordination with the Chinese government, it is not a far-fetched possibility.

Only Works on Smartphone

Turbo VPN works on Android and iOS.

That’s it.

You cannot use Turbo VPN for Windows to taste the sweet privilege of free online anonymity. There is no Turbo VPN Mac application either.

This is something that would definitely deter users from buying the paid version.

With VPNs providing their services for multiple devices along with simultaneous connections, Netizens have little reason to buy an exclusive Android VPN.

Although, this is a good VPN but you are not satisfied with this VPN. Don’t worry, have a look at this guide on best Android VPNs 2019.

Customer Support: Average at Best

The providers are mostly active on Facebook where they provide regular updates. The queries asked there are typically answered within minutes.

Meanwhile, Turbo VPN website, on the other hand, has been designed fairly recently. Unfortunately, it contains little to no information about the VPN service as of yet.

It consists of a single page, which has generic one-liners about the service’s feature. There are no guides, company information or manuals available.

There is another option available. You can send your queries to Turbo VPN representatives by writing an email at turboappfeedback@gmail.com.

Since there is little information about the service on the web, I enquired Turbo this option. My query was related to Turbo’s VIP service.

I received a reply within 17 hours. Not bad at all. The answer was comprehensive and managed to satisfy my curiosity.

So why is the customer support in the drawbacks?

The answer is simple. Turbo VPN is a ghost on the interweb. You really have to go digging to find the provider.

Quite simply, the provider has made it hard to find them and get appropriate help.

Server Locations: Low Numbers

While researching for this Turbo VPN, I came to learn about the provider’s small list of servers. This is because there are only eight servers you can opt to secure your online privacy.

Here is the list of countries from where you get Turbo VPN server address:

  • India
  • Singapore
  • Germany
  • Netherlands
  • United Kingdom
  • Canada
  • New York (USA)
  • San Fransico (USA)

Since the service is growing rapidly, I expect the providers to add more servers in the near future.

No Additional Features

The VPN does not sport a wide array of privacy tools that have become a consistent feature of the top providers.

With no kill switch, ad-blocker and multi-hop, Turbo VPN is a rather simple privacy solution.

Everything has a cost. Free things are never free.

This way when you use this VPN for free, you are attacked with a flood of advertisements.

One after the other.

Sometimes it’s a video game with scantily clad women. Other times, it’s a website where you can meet hot singles in your area.

If this gets on your nerves than the only solution is signing up for the VIP service.

Turbo VPN Pricing & Plans

The one-month plan of Turbo VPN’s VIP version is somewhat expensive at $11.99 a month. Nevertheless, you can avail the service for $2.99 a month by signing up for a year.

The paid version of Turbo VPN provides dedicated Netflix servers and allows you to connect the service to 5 devices.

Turbo VPN VIP package is fairly expensive. Especially considering that other providers offer more for less.

Turbo VPN Android Review

Using Turbo VPN online can get you plenty of benefits. But how is the overall experience? The answer lies below.

Fortunately, the Android and iOS users can opt Turbo VPN from Google Play Store and iTunes Store respectively.

While I searched Turbo VPN on Google Play Store, around 20 apps with the same name popped up. There were also some distorted versions namely, Cheetah VPN Turbo, Turbo VPN Pro, Super VPN Turbo and many more.

Turbo VPN’s app is aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly. Moreover, it is simple and does not provide different options to the users. The only prominent option provided in the app is server selection.

In addition, the setting section only allows you to toggle the automatic connection and Notification options.

Turbo VPN Review – FAQs

One should always be careful while using a free VPN service. That’s because VPN companies like every business organizations need revenue to keep their operations afloat.

Final Verdict

Turbo VPN review 2018 establishes that the service has enough features to grab the attention of the potential users. The biggest plus point is its freemium feature that makes Turbo VPN an interesting choice for new privacy seeking users. In addition, the service allows you to obtain online anonymity with its iOS and Android app.

However, the service needs to upgrade its website to solve the problems of the subscribers instantly. Likewise, the service should introduce dedicated apps for other platforms and devices.
