Speedify Review 2020

Speedify is a US-based VPN service available at a costly $3.99/month price. It offers only 40+ servers globally that don't support Netflix and torrenting. The service has received 2.8 stars rating overall.

Speedify is among the lesser known VPN providers in the industry.

As per this Speedify review, the service keeps users’ log. Furthermore, they don’t have live chat benefit for their users. Above all, they are incompatible with torrenting and Netflix both.

However, they do possess an impressive server spread like PureVPN or Surfshark.

These some of the reasons have not allowed me to recommend Speedify to privacy-conscious users throughout the world.

To know about VPNs other than Speedify, read this exclusive VPN reviews 2020 guide.

My Rating Criteria

I have tested Speedify as per my own 9 steps criteria that includes:

  1. Jurisdiction – Where is Speedify located?
  2. Security – Is this VPN Secure?
  3. Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
  4. Servers – Are they P2P compatible?
  5. Speed – On the higher side
  6. Streaming – Does it unblock US Netflix?
  7. Compatibility – Apps and Supported Devices
  8. Pricing – What is the cost of Speedify?
  9. Trustworthiness – Trustpilot reviews, Reddit & Customer Support

Jurisdiction – Where is Speedify located?

Speedify falls under the surveillance of the 5 eyes. Since Speedify operates from America, they have to abide by strict data retention laws. This is not ideal for a VPN company.

Although Speedify claims to log no user data, the fact that they operate under the nose of the five eyes makes me quite skeptical.

Security – Is this VPN Secure?

Although their privacy policy does state that they don’t log user data. However, they keep logs of their users practically.

What’s funny? I didn’t even had to dig through their website. They literally had everything in plain sight. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Allow me to explain…

Under their “What Personal Information We Collect” heading, they clearly mention all the information they gather about their users.

  • Contact information
  • Homepage access logs
  • Device information
  • Location information
  • Cookies
  • Speedify server access logs

This is just some of the information Speedify collects about their user. They use the stored logs for a bunch reasons too, not to mention data collection through Google Analytics.

Conversely, to boost up speeds and reduce latency, Speedify developed their own protocol by the name of “Channel bonding”.

Like the name suggests, this technology works by combining all network connections such as Wi-Fi, cellular, Ethernet etc. simultaneously to offer a seamless and refined network connection.

Another thing that I really found helpful about Channel bonding is the ability to stay connected even when one of the connection sources becomes unavailable.

This protocol is truly handy. It saved my download progress at least twice during my testing week.

Encryption wise I found Speedify to be quite impressive as well. Instead of using AES-256 Bit encryption, Speedify uses what they call ChaCha 256-Bit Encryption.

This encryption mechanism is supposedly way harder to crack than the usual AES-256 Bit encryption found in almost every other VPN service.

ChaCha 256-Bit Encryption is also what makes this VPN standout amongst other VPN providers in its class.

The way it works is quite complicated so I won’t get too much into details. Rest assured you don’t have to worry about anybody decrypting your private data.

Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests

Speedify does not expose your digital whereabouts online. Here are the screenshots:

DNS Leak:

WebRTC Leak:

Virus Test:

I checked its Google Play Store app link through VirusTotal.com and found no virus at all. Here is the proof:

Servers – Are they P2P compatible?

Fortunately, Speedify does offer 200+ servers in around 35 countries. I tried connecting to multiple different servers in Africa, Europe, Oceania, Asia, North America, South America and they all worked without a hitch.

This was quite impressive considering how new they are. But, they don’t support torrenting activities of its users at all.

Speed – On the higher side

On speed front, Speedify has all the right features to inspire its users. I connected to its Canadian server while using my 30 Mbps internet connection, here is the screenshot:

From the above snapshot, you can see a marginal decline of 10% in speed.

Streaming – Does it Unblock US Netflix?

Unfortunately, you cannot use Speedify to accomplish your media streaming cravings. This is because the service does not allow users unblock US Netflix media library.

Therefore, you will have to consider using another VPN that works with Netflix.

Compatibility – Apps and Supported Devices

At present, the service is compatible with all the leading platforms like Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. However, the provider does not support gaming consoles or smart TVs.

This is the major concern considering the other VPNs have dedicated apps for gaming consoles and smart TVs too. On the other hand, the interface of Speedify is what caught my eye.

Everything is neatly laid and vividly mentioned within the application. Color scheme is also something I really like. The hues of pinks and blues really give Speedify a unique look.

The interface of Speedify is split in to two sections. The top part contains the Speedify toggle button along with both the cellular and Wi-Fi signal strengths and the bottom part graphically shows the speeds.

The bottom part is also where you’ll be able to see the stats of your monthly and daily data consumption.

Pricing – What is the cost of Speedify?

Speedify’s subscription plans are quite affordable. They currently offer three (3) plans.  individual, family and team plan. Each plan is straight forward.

Individual plan covers one user, Family plan covers 5 users and the Team plan covers as many users as you like.

Personally, I like their Team plan, however, both the Team plan and the Family plan are the most affordable. Plus they cover multiple users as opposed to only one.

These pricing plans are mentioned as follows:

The individual pricing plan is divided into two major plans:

Similarly, family plan has two main plans including:

In the last but not the least, team plan is further divided into two major plans and these are:

In terms of payment methods, you can only use Credit Cards, PayPal and Amazon Pay. To my surprise, they have not added any sort of anonymous payment option in its armory.

Their refund policy is also pretty great. All of their plans are covered by a full risk free 30 day money back guarantee.

If you don’t end up liking their service, you can always get a refund.

Trustworthiness – Trustpilot reviews, Reddit & Customer Support

On Trustpilot, the service has to improve its performance drastically. At present, there are only 5 reviews available on the famous users’ review site.

On the other hand, their presence on Reddit is also on the lower side. Different users have mentioned that the service does not support P2P activities.

Customer Support

Although there’s no life chat support on their website, their email ticketing system is to the very least helpful.

Besides offering email support, they also have a bunch of helpful query related articles on their website. They are also quite detailed so you should be able to resolve your issue right there and then.

However, if for some reason the related articles doesn’t offer any help, you can also shoot them an email.

In a nutshell, they offer following support options:

  • Blog
  • Contact Us
  • Email
  • Press
  • Social Media

Alternatives to Speedify

If you’re not interested in Speedify, don’t worry, read a list of other VPN reviews:

Do I Recommend Speedify?

No, I don’t recommend Speedify to privacy seekers across the globe.

While their overall service was good, it was kind of disappointing to see the lack of Netflix support. Their encryption protocols were no doubt great but their privacy policy was quite disturbing.

Aside from that, while they offered applications for iOS, Android, Windows and Mac, they didn’t offered any applications for both gaming consoles and Smart TVs.

All in all, all of their features do come with few annoying caveats.

Based on the above Speedify review, the service has obtained 2.8/5.0 stars rating overall.
