NVPN Review 2024 [Tested & Updated]

NVPN might be affordable and offer decent features, however, as we've discussed in this NVPN review, this VPN is excruciatingly slow and doesn't work with Netflix. In comparison, ExpressVPN is much more renowned and offers far better features.

NVPN-Review-in-USA

NVPN is a reliable VPN service that’s known across the industry for the security and privacy features it offers. It offers a default level of encryption: AES 256-bit with SHA 512, and also lets you choose SHA with 128-bit Blowfish CBC. However, the reason to conduct this NVPN review is our curiosity over how this VPN performs in other aspects.

Per our tests, the VPN offers slow speeds, barely unblocks streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+, equips servers in only 35 countries, and isn’t as cost-friendly as various premium VPNs. So, if you’re looking for a VPN to perform all your favorite activities, you need an overall best provider like ExpressVPN.

In this guide, we’ll test NVPN on multiple factors and let you go through the results, so you can answer questions like: ‘Is NVPN safe to use?’ and ‘Should you subscribe to it?’

Our Verdict

Overall Rating :

4.1 / 10

Ranked #55 out of 56 VPNs

Per our NVPN review, we found the VPN to be pretty underwhelming since it's only great on the security front. Other than that, it offers below-average speeds, no compatible apps for any device/OS, and is inefficient for gaming, streaming, and torrenting. In short, we won't recommend it to our users.

Here’s a quick summary of everything we found out about NVPN:

  • Pricing –  The provider’s subscription plans are on the costlier side, based on our evaluation.
  • Security  – Per our NVPN security review, the privacy aspects of this VPN are quite robust, with 256-bit CBC/SHA512 as default and multiple protocols.

  • Speed – When we tested its speeds, they turned out to be below average even on a close server location.
  • Streaming – NVPN doesn’t unblock any streaming platforms, be it Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or more.
  • Torrenting – Even though this VPN is optimized for downloading P2P files, its slow speeds were a turndown for this activity.
  • Compatibility – While reviewing this VPN, we got to know that it only offers a dedicated app for Windows. You need to manually configure it on other VPNs.
  • Installation – When we tested how NVPN works, we could download it easily on devices through OpenVPN. The process is simple once you get the hang of it.
  • Customer Support – NVPN offers only 2 customer support options, including Knowledgebase and TicketSystem.

NVPN Review – Servers and Locations

The VPN service currently provides 56+ servers in 35 countries. The good thing about this network is that it even offers servers in North Korea and Iran. The number of the country counts looks decent, but it still doesn’t compare to ExpressVPN which offers 3000+ servers in 105 countries.

Moreover, a drawback of this VPN is that when you sign up for it, you’re required to select a country. But, you can only switch servers for free within your own country. This means that you get a single change to change country, after which you’re required to pay about $10 to switch to another country.

NVPN Review – Privacy and Security

NVPN uses a 256-bit CBC/SHA512 as default and, alternatively, 128-bit Blowfish-CBC / SHA1 to secure your online traffic. Moreover, the service offers 5 types of tunneling protocols, like Squid proxy, L2TP/IPsec, OpenVPN, IKEv1 & IKEv2, and SOCKS5 proxy.

Protocols-and-Encryption-of-NVPN

The protocols such as OpenVPN, Squid, and SOCKS5 proxy can be tunneled with a “tunnel” for enhanced encryption.

Moreover, NVPN uses SSL encryption along with sTunnel, allowing you to configure your connection using the TCP protocol with port 443. Using this, you can circumvent all restrictions over the internet put in places like workplaces, colleges, and schools.

Jurisdiction – Where is NVPN based?

NVPN is based in Bosnia, which does not fall under 5 Eyes, 9 Eyes, or 14 Eyes countries. Bosnia is a Southeastern European country and follows EU laws. But when it comes to data retention laws, it has no restrictions on the internet.

Logging policy

NVPN is a strictly no-log VPN. It does not store any critical information, but only the following information:

  • Email
  • Payment Transaction ID

These are the common information needed to subscribe to their service. But, you can still avoid it by making crypto payments. When we evaluated its privacy policy, it was clearly mentioned that they don’t collect any data or activities of its users, such as session durations, visited websites, or device information. Here is a screenshot of it:

nvpn-logging-policy

Since the policy has not been audited, we’re not so sure.

That’s good to know that it is truly a no-log VPN. However, a dealbreaker is that even though it collects minimal logs, it hasn’t been audited by third parties. This means that you just have to trust them for living up to their privacy commitments.

How Fast is NVPN?

The speed of NVPN is too slow. We tested its speed using its Canadian server. Considering that the server was near our actual location, we were expecting fast speeds from it. Before conducting the speed test, our internet speed was 92.19 Mbps. You can confirm it from the screenshot below:

speeds-before-connecting-to-nvpn-server

We faced a slight speed drop, which was pretty normal.

But as we connected to NVPN’s Canadian server, our download speed declined to 28.40 Mbps. That’s extremely low! Here is the result of the speed test:

speeds-after-connecting-to-nvpn-canada-server

You can see that the speeds are pretty low.

As you can see, the speed declined by 72%, which is not suitable for streaming or gaming. So, if you’re looking for a VPN with fast speeds, then we highly recommend you opt for the best fastest VPN Per our tests, ExpressVPN is the best option to get.

Streaming – Is NVPN Good for Streaming?

Opting for NVPN may not be the best choice for streaming enthusiasts, as it fails to work with major platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and HBO Max. The lack of compatibility was anticipated because NVPN doesn’t emphasize support for streaming services, making it less suitable as the best VPN for streaming.

Netflix restrictions are tremendously strong in detecting a VPN. So, as expected, we found in our NVPN review that there’s a limited chance of bypassing its surveillance system. However, NVPN was able to unblock Yahoo, Skype, and Google Meet.

Torrenting

Armed with a Squid and SOCKS5 proxy, NVPN optimizes the torrenting experience of the users. It does that by shielding the torrenters from threats without throttling their bandwidth.

It also works with Kodi media players as well. Kodi is an amazing media-streaming platform that offers video content for TV shows, movies, documentaries, and much more. However, the multimedia server fetches content through torrents and other sources.

But sadly, since NVPN offers really slow speeds, we recommend you should use the best Kodi VPN to make the most of your streaming experience.

Compatibility – Apps and Supported Devices

Compatibility is an issue with NVPN. Although you can use the VPN on Windows, Mac, Android, Linux, iOS, and various routers, it only has a dedicated app for Windows.

Users have to manually set up the VPN, which can be a cumbersome process. And during this process sometimes you can encounter problems while setting up the VPN on your device.

How to Install NVPN

It only takes about 4-5 minutes to download NVPN on your device. Since it only offers a native Windows app, you’re required to install it manually through OpenVPN. Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Install OpenVPN.
  2. Download and then copy the NVPN setup files into the configuration folder of OpenVPN (Find the NVPN setup files in the provider’s member area).
  3. Connect NVPN through the OpenVPN application.

Customer Support

NVPN offers poor customer support since you cannot contact its representatives via email or live chat. Instead, there are only 2 ways you can get help from their support staff: TicketSystem and Knowledgebase (FAQs).

You can always submit your questions through tickets, or find answers in the Knowledgebase which tends to be pretty detailed.

FAQs – NVPN Review

Yes, NVPN is quite safe. That’s because it offers robust encryption and multiple secure VPN protocols. But, it lacks multiple features like a kill switch and split tunneling. This is why we recommend you use ExpressVPN instead.

Per our tests, NVPN couldn’t unblock Netflix or any other streaming platform. This VPN doesn’t come with the unblocking capabilities that are required for accessing geo-restricted platforms. Moreover, it offers slow speeds, which are a dealbreaker for streaming purposes.

Yes, NVPN does slow down your speeds. But, if you use a good VPN service like ExpressVPN, then the speed drop would not be noticeable. That’s because ExpressVPN doesn’t drop your speed by more than 20%.

Alternatives of NVPN

These are the alternatives to NVPN you might find useful. Still, have doubts? We have compiled below the reviews that will help you make the right decision.

Conclusion

Now that we’ve reviewed the VPN on multiple aspects, the question that arises is: ‘Is NVPN a good VPN?’ Well, based on the review above, we do not recommend NVPN. Despite being a no-log VPN, it has a slow server speed and doesn’t work with Netflix. To put it simply, it isn’t the right VPN for streaming.

Also, it has poor customer support with a poor response rate. It has a good affordable price, but not so good a money-back guarantee of 3 days. Overall, it’s not a good VPN to use. Therefore, we only recommend you use a premium option like ExpressVPN.

That’s all for our NVPN review 2024. Until next time!
