HideMyAss and PureVPN are two of the most popular VPN brands around.

But which of one of them is better?

The short answer is: PureVPN. In this article, I will go in depth and compare HideMyAss vs PureVPN to see exactly why PureVPN is better than the HMA (HideMyAss).

Here’s a summary of the comparison:

Jurisdiction

Result: PureVPN is located in the safer jurisdiction of Hong Kong

HideMyAss is located in the jurisdiction of the UK. As one of the main countries partner to the Five Eyes alliance, it is not a very good idea to trust your privacy to a VPN with headquarters in the UK.

PureVPN is a located in the safety of Hong Kong, a country with free from data retention laws. Therefore, for privacy-conscious users, PureVPN is a better choice if you want to stay far away from countries involved in domestic surveillance of citizens.

Logging Policy

Result: PureVPN does not retain any user logs unlike HMA

Keeps some logsNo user logs retained

HideMyAss retains bandwidth, timestamp, and IP addresses of customers, but the provider stays clear of any activity logs or storing your original IP address.

PureVPN, on the other hand, has a privacy policy totally oriented towards the user and keeps no form of personally identifiable information in its logs.

Thus, PureVPN is one of the best VPN options out there as far as logging policy is concerned.

Pricing, Payments, and refund policy

Result: PureVPN is cheaper than HMA with better payment options and longer refund period

PureVPN is a very reasonably priced VPN service. Currently, it is available for $2.95/month if you choose the 1-year subscription.

HMA is a little more expensive, as its lowest cost offer is still $4.99/month.

PureVPN offers a 31-day money-back guarantee in contrast to HMA’s 30-day money-back guarantee. A difference of 1 day only, but a difference nonetheless.

As such, PureVPN is more desirable on every front in this round.

Servers

Result: PureVPN has more servers than HMA

HMAPureVPN
970+ servers

2,000+ servers
140+ countries

We’re talking brass tacks on the world map here ladies and gentlemen! It is time to compare server strength and server spread to find out who has the best global network in the VPN industry!

PureVPN rear-ends HMA out of the ring with its 2,000+ servers while HMA barely manages to hold on with around 970+ servers. However, HMA has more server locations than PureVPN, so its network is more geographically diverse.

However, PureVPN still owns one of the most extensive server networks and on server count alone, it is almost two times bigger than HMA.

As such, PureVPN wins this round.

Speed Test: HMA vs PureVPN

The speed tests of both providers were conducted on Ookla using a base Internet connection of 30 Mbps.

PureVPN

PureVPN offers impressive speeds consistently. On a randomly chosen US server, it measured a speed of 29.07 Mbps.

This round is going to be a close one because both HideMyAss and PureVPN are VPN industry veterans and know how to make their customers happy.

HideMyAss plays a strong card with its massive array of customer support features. It offers live chat customer Support, Email (Support Tickets),  Community (Forum) and FAQ.

In response, PureVPN dishes out everything that HideMyAss has to offer (support tickets, FAQs, forum and Live Chat support) except for email – leading to a barely legal tie considering the presence of live chat support.

Which one is better for Netflix?

Result: PureVPN is more efficient for Netflix.

HideMyAss

With most HideMyAss US servers, you can log into Netflix, but you cannot stream anything, as it detects that you are using a VPN.

The only server that still allows you to stream is Liberty Island that is, Liberty Island LOC 1 and LOC 2. If you are connected to Liberty Island server but still cannot access any US Netflix content, try clearing your cache and cookies.

While connecting to Liberty Island server can work, it does not work every time. Sometimes, it may work for only a couple of minutes and sometimes you can stream all day long without any problems.

This may sound frustrating, but if you are patient enough, you may get lucky and stream Netflix glitch-free.

While it is not true that HideMyAss does not work with Netflix at all, it is also not true that it works all the time

This sounds strange, but we will try to provide as much information as possible to help you stream US Netflix with this VPN service.

PureVPN

purevpn

PureVPN is another VPN that works in accessing American Netflix. It offers multiple apps and software for different operating systems including browser extensions.

The service has numerous servers spread across the globe, allowing any streamer to unblock his or her favorite website.

PureVPN has a good record of unblocking Netflix efficiently. Since it has a larger network of servers in the US than HMA, you’ll always have better luck accessing Netflix with PureVPN as compared to HMA.

Protocols & Encryption

Result: PureVPN is more efficient for Netflix.

Both HideMyAss and PureVPN have the technical expertise to offer every protocol and encryption under the sun. But there is more here than meets the eye friends!

A look at the client interface reveals just what type of encryption features both VPN service providers are actually plating for VPN users.

The HideMyAss ProVPN! app for Windows is only offering PPTP and OpenVPN protocols. VPN giant HideMyAss surprise with the absence of any SSTP support!

PureVPN steps forth bravely with its PureVPN app for Windows – offering PPTP, L2TP and SSTP protocols.

PureVPN is able to boast an Encryption configuration feature in the ‘Settings’ tab of its VPN client. The configuration feature lets you decide if you want to accept a connection if it comes with/without optimal and maximum encryption. This leads me to believe that PureVPN’s encryption features me be somewhat inconsistent.

Conclusion

PureVPN is the winner of this competition against HideMyAss.

The strong server network, Netflix support, logging policy, jurisdiction, and speed give PureVPN a definite edge over HMA.

Although HMA is renowned VPN brand on its own, but in this comparison per se, it fell short of the benefits that PureVPN offers especially to privacy conscious users.
