The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in collaboration with FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS) and the FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, announces the convening of the second National Meeting of Alerting Officials.
Scheduled for April 30 to May 1, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri, this event promises two days of collaborative sessions involving federal, state, tribal, and territorial alerting authorities, as well as key industry stakeholders. The meeting will focus on sharing best practices, addressing current challenges, and exploring the latest technology of alerting systems.
Agenda topics for the participants include:
- Latest FCC measures aimed at enhancing alert capabilities, including updates on rules and programs;
- The role of alerts, warnings, and notifications (AWN) in backing the national Emergency Support Function related to communications and external affairs;
- Effective strategies for crafting, deploying, and refining AWN, in cooperation with industry partners; and
- Opportunities for training, certification, and technical support to aid emergency management officials in the creation and dissemination of AWN.
This CISA guidance meeting will facilitate CISA, FEMA IPAWS, and the FCC to fortify partnerships, glean vital insights, and pinpoint opportunities to bolster the alerting community’s essential operations.
The event also marks the conclusion of CISA’s Emergency Communications Month 2024: Resilient Together, celebrating the critical role of America’s emergency communications professionals in maintaining national safety and security.
