BTGuard-Review-UK

BTGuard is both a proxy and a VPN that is highly used by torrent users in UK. But is really worth it in UK?

BTGuard has only 3 servers located in Singapore, Canada, and the Netherlands. These servers have too much load and that is why it gives you the slowest speed.

Not to mention, it is the most expensive VPN that I have ever tested in UK. Most people use this service because it has a specific pricing plan for Torrent users in UK. Believe me, a VPN that has P2P-optimized servers such as ExpressVPN and NordVPN can do wonders for you.

BTGuard Review in UK – Rating Criteria

Below you will find a list of factors that I have used to review BTGuard VPN:

  1. Pricing – How much does BTGuard VPN cost in UK?
  2. Security – Encryption & features
  3. Jurisdiction – Is it located in a 5-eyes country?
  4. Speed – How fast is BTGuard VPN?
  5. Streaming – Does it work with Netflix in UK?
  6. Leaks – Does it leak IP, DNS & WebRTC?
  7. Trustworthiness – Logs and customer support
  8. Compatibility – Apps and supported devices

Pricing – How much does BTGuard VPN cost in UK?

BTGuard has expensive pricing plans. It has 2 different plans which are listed below:

Its Bittorrent plan is specifically devised to keep your activity anonymous while you download torrents in UK. The other plan is just a VPN that keeps your online activity on the entire web anonymous in UK.

To be honest, that’s the most expensive VPN I have ever reviewed in UK. There are many top VPNs such as Surfshark or ExpressVPN that offer the best features at a very low price in UK. If you want to get these VPNs at a discounted rate, check out our list of VPN deals 2023 and avail yourself of amazing discounts.

If you are looking for a free VPN provider that offers almost if not the same security and anonymity as BTGuard does for torrenting, then we recommend you to take a look at the best free VPNs for P2P in UK

Coming back to BTGuard, it does not have any refund policy either.

Payment Methods

Here is a list of payment methods offered by BTGuard in UK:

  • Bitcoin
  • PayPal
  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • Bank Transfer

Security – Encryption & features

BTGuard offers a strong 256-bit AES encryption in UK, this is the industry’s strong encryption. BTGuard’s VPN supports PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) and OpenVPN protocols.

PPTP is an obsolete tool that has proven to be a vulnerable time and time again.

In contrast, OpenVPN is the best option in UK. It is advanced, secure, and constantly improving.

Jurisdiction –Is it located in a 5-eyes country?

BTGuard is based in Canada, which puts it right in the grasp of Five Eyes and their vile surveillance procedure.

5 eyes, 9 eyes, and 14 eyes countries spy on their citizens. What’s worse than a country spying on its own citizens? It shares the said information with a group of other countries.

Like a bunch of surveillance junkies, they take a puff of your private information and then pass it on.

Servers

There are 3 main locations that serve as BTGuard’s network points: CanadaNetherlands, and Singapore.

As per their claim, BTGuard has multiple 10GB lines for optimum capacity. This also allows them to keep no limitation on the connection speed.

BTGuard-Servers

But something is amiss here.

Three servers mean they will crowd up quickly. And this will suffocate the bandwidth speed. Having only 3 servers is not so good.

Speed – How fast is BTGuard VPN?

BTGuard speed is too slow. I had a fear that having only 3 servers would suffocate its bandwidth speed and that is exactly what happened.

My internet speed before connecting to the BTGuard Singapore server was 31 Mbps. Once I connected to their server, my speed declined by 9.63 Mbps. Not good.

Here is the screenshot:

Streaming – Does it work with Netflix in UK?

Sadly, I found that it doesn’t unblock US Netflix in UK. How would it? It doesn’t have a US server so anything you try goes in vain.

VPNs and Netflix have had somewhat of a bad breakup. Now, Netflix has imposed powerful firewalls to keep VPN services away.

Even the best VPNs such as Surfshark and ExpressVPN are able to unblock in UK.

Torrenting

It’s all in the name. If you’re specifically using it for Torrenting then you must use it Bittorent Proxy. It has P2P-optimized servers that will keep your online identity protected by masking your original IP address.

Torrenting-with-BTGuard

BTGuard torrent service should definitely be appealing to the netizens. After all, it was designed for this purpose.

It looks like BTGuard does not unblock other video streaming platforms like BBC iPlayer and Hulu in UK.

Moreover, you cannot unblock your desired geo-limited content on Kodi which helps users watch their preferred stuff without spending a single penny.

Therefore, you will need to use the best VPN for the Kodi box to achieve your mission successfully.

Leaks – Does it leak IP, DNS & WebRTC?

Gladly, BTGuad doesn’t leak IP, DNS, or WebRTC in UK. I used its VPN service plan to test for any leaks.

I connected to their Singapore server. Here are the results:

Trustworthiness – Logs and customer support

BTGuard does not store any kind of logs in UK, whether it be connection logs or usage logs.

On the bottom of BTGuard’s website, a familiar claim appears.

BTGuard-Review-for-Zero-Logs

Since this isn’t my first rodeo, I went digging into their privacy policy to see if they are really true to this claim.

Here is how BTGuard’s privacy policy reads.

BTGuard-Privacy-Policy

There are several interesting here.

In this BTGuard review, I learned that it does not share our personal information with third parties in UK. Good. However, they never make it clear what personal information they are holding.

Suffice to say, this is troubling.

It doesn’t store your original IP address as well.

Customer Support

BTGuard customer support is really poor in UK. Sadly, BTGuard doesn’t provide live customer or tech support. However, it welcomes all queries and concerns via tickets.

There are two main departments that you should address in case you face any issue with the service or wish to inquire about a random concern: the sales department and the support department.

Other than all this, BTGuard has a solid knowledge base that answers lots of important questions.

Compatibility – Apps and supported devices

Readers of this BTGuard review in UK will be disappointed to know that this VPN does not have dedicated apps. However, it supports Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.

You will need to download their apps manually. They also have a troubleshooting page.

In this BTGuard VPN review in UK, I have tested each of its apps that I will discuss below.

Hands-on Testing on Windows

Since this service does not have a dedicated client of its own, you will have to rely on the BtGuard Setup for OpenVPN.

First, install the OpenVPN software and the config files.

When you will click on the config file, it will automatically extract and be copied into the OpenVPN configuration file.

Using-BTGuard-on-Windows-1

This is as simple as it gets.

Now, all you need to do is click the OpenVPN app and you connect with any of BTGuard’s servers.

Using-BTGuard-on-Windows-2

Overall, my experience with using BTGuard was exceptional in UK.

From the BtGuard download process to connect the VPN, everything happened with a breeze.

BTGuard for Mac

BTGuard-for-Mac

Mac is an OS that generates much debate. Some users consider it as a less capable version of Windows while its devotees argue otherwise.

In any case, hackers do not discriminate between platforms.

And this is why Mac users should make use of BTGuard, especially for torrenting in UK. They can do this via the BTGuard Mac OpenVPN setup.

BTGuard for Android

BtGuard-for-Android

Android users are billions in number. This puts a target on the back of this widely used OS. BTGuard supports Android through OpenVPN and PPTP third-party tools.

With the VPN connected, Android users can block malware, adware, and hackers. You can also check out our detailed guide on top VPNs for Android to disclose more popular VPNs in UK.

BTGuard for iOS

BitGuard-OpenVPN-for-iOS

iOS is another important member of the Apple clan.

Its users are spread across the world but many of them, remain oblivious to various online threats.

BTGuard allows iOS a digital safeguard through its OpenVPN and PPTP support.

Alternatives to BTGuard in UK

You can use other VPNs if you don’t wish to secure your privacy through BTGuard in UK. Before using such services, you had better read these reviews:

Do I Recommend BTGuard VPN in UK?

No, I do not recommend BTGuard VPN to my readers in UK.

It seems that in our BTGuard review in UK this VPN is not interested in bringing any improvement to this VPN. It is stuck on the same number of servers for the past 5 years. There are no dedicated apps in development either.

The server is too slow, the pricing is too high, and it is certainly not worth your money in UK.

Overall, I did not find BtGuard impressive in UK.
