VPN.AC Review 2020

VPN.AC is a Romanian service available at a bearable $3.75/month cost. It only offers 20+ servers that allow torrenting but don't assist US Netflix. The service has earned 2.8 stars rating.

VPN.AC is a brainchild of Netsec Interactive Solutions, an IT-based security firm created in 2009. The Romania based VPN service is striving hard to become safer, faster, and even better.

As per this VPN.AC review, the service does not have a multitude of servers as compared to other VPNs like PureVPN or Surfshark. Moreover, it does not offer impressive speeds and unblock US Netflix.

However, it delivers an attractive multi-login feature to it users. Still, I don’t recommend the service as it has a long way to go to become a major player in the industry.

My Rating Criteria

I have tested VPN.AC as per my own developed 9 steps criteria that includes:

  1. Jurisdiction – Where is VPN.AC located?
  2. Security – Is this VPN secure?
  3. Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
  4. Servers – Are they P2P compatible?
  5. Speed – On the Lower side?
  6. Streaming – Does it work with Netflix?
  7. Compatibility – Apps and supported devices
  8. Pricing – What is the cost of VPN.AC?
  9. Trustworthiness – Trustpilot Ratings, Reddit & Customer Support

Jurisdiction – Where is VPN.AC located?

The provider mainly hails from Romania. Interestingly, the country is not a part of 5 eyes, 9 eyes and 14 eyes countries.

Likewise, if the service stores your logging information, it will not share it with other countries.

That said, the provider has to follow Romanian data privacy laws in the right way.

Security – Is this VPN secure?

At present, the service does keep a minimum log of its users’ information.

You can contemplate these logging practices in the form of IP addresses, VPN session connect and disconnect time, and traffic transferred amount.

Moreover, they are supposed to remove all their users’ data from their secure servers on a daily basis.

On the other hand, it provides a comprehensive list of tunneling protocols to its users.

These are PPTP, OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec, and IKEv2. Luckily, OpenVPN protocol uses 256-bit military grade encryption by default. VPN. AC also offers an impressive kill switch feature.

Moreover, you can use its exclusive secure proxy benefit that allows you to surf the web securely and anonymously. You do not have to connect to a VPN service.

It works like a web proxy and encrypts your all traffic with the help of a secure tunnel.

Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests

VPN.AC is safe to use as it will not reveal your digital whereabouts online. Here are the screenshots:

IP Leak:

DNS Leak:

WebRTC Leak:

Virus Test:

I checked its Android app link to observe any malware or virus attached to the app or not through VirusTotal.com.

Luckily, the file did not reveal any malware or virus at all.

Servers – Are they P2P compatible?

Sadly, VPN.AC does not deliver a massive server network to its users. You can connect to any server of your choice from the list of 21 VPN servers.

Furthermore, the service has not differentiated between physical and virtual servers.

Thus, you should go through our VPN server locations blog to find the major differences between these two kinds of servers.

On torrenting front, the service also supports its users P2P activities on limited servers.

Speed – On the Lower side

VPN.AC offers below-average connection speeds to its users. I connected to its French server while using my 35 Mbps internet connection and received the following 14.86 Mbps download speed:

Streaming – Does it work with Netflix?

Unfortunately, VPN.AC does not allow users unblock US Netflix media library. For that purpose, you will have to use other VPNs that support Netflix.

Compatibility – Apps and supported devices

On compatibility front, VPN.ac has ticked all the boxes correctly. You can use VPN AC iPhone feature to download the iOS app to secure your desired iOS devices.

Similarly, you are free to download its Windows and Mac software to protect these devices instantly.

For Android, you will have to download and install its Android VPN app.

By doing so, you can safeguard your Android devices from various online threats.

Compatibility-VPN.AC- Review

You can use its tutorial section to install apps on another operating system and device too. You can consider this operating system in the form of Linux.

Furthermore, you can take help from its tutorial section to install the brand on your routers.

Pricing – What is the cost of VPN.AC?

VPN.AC delivers affordable pricing plans to its users. You can avail its four diverse types of pricing plans. These are

You will have to pay $9, $24, $58 and $90 to subscribe to these packages accordingly.

This way, you can get 11%, 46%, and 62% discount on the above-mentioned plans respectively.

If you consider its payment feature, VPN.AC provides numerous payment options including Bitcoin. Other payment methods are:

  • PayPal
  • Alipay
  • Credit Card
  • Union Pay

In terms of refund policy, the service may disappoint you big time. The provider does not provide a free trial feature. In fact, it does deliver a paid trial you can avail after paying $2.

Hence, I was expecting to see a money back guarantee that lasts up to 30 days. Sadly, this was not the case though.

Ironically, not all payment options are refundable. You can get the claim of your refund if you have made payments through PayPal and Bitcoin only.

Moreover, you can use a paid trial feature if you want to test the performance of VPN.AC on your particular device for a week.

All you have to do is to pay $2 to avail the said benefit.

To be honest, the trial period should be free all the time regardless of the price is already cheap or not.

VPN.ac should work in this area to grab the attention of potential users with both hands in near future.

Trustworthiness – Trustpilot ratings, Reddit & Customer Support

The Romanian VPN service has to improve its presence on Trustpilot a lot. Currently, they are not active as you will not find so many reviews about the service on the famous customer review site.

On Reddit, VPN.AC has received positive reviews generally. Here is the proof:

Customer Support

I was trying to use its live chat feature but unable to do so. However, the provider has various other attractive features. These are:

  • Knowledgebase
  • FAQs
  • Contact Us
  • Tutorials
  • Skype

You can send your queries through [email protected] if you wish to know about the service thoroughly. Furthermore, you can create a ticket if you want to solve your technical problems stress-free.

I was astonished to note that VPN.ac allows you to interact with the provider through Skype.

Comparison between PureVPN and VPN.AC

Alternatives to VPN.AC

If you do not want to use VPN.AC for any reason, you can consider choosing other VPNs that include:

Do I Recommend VPN.AC?

No, I don’t recommend VPN.AC to users across the globe.

During this VPN.AC review, I found its different features like pricing, payment options, obfuscation, and logging policy quite appealing.

On the other hand, I did not like its limited servers facility, limited torrenting support, and conditional refund policy.

VPN.AC should include a live chat feature in its armory to increase its prevailing customer base.

It does not allow users unblock US Netflix but delivers kill switch features and all the latest tunneling protocols.

Based on the above review, I would give VPN.Ac 2.8/5.0 rating overall.
