Kepard VPN Review – Introduction
According to a post on the Kepard Blog, Kepard launched its VPN services In August 2012. The user-friendly high-quality VPN service provider chooses to follow an indirect approach. It relies on word-of-mouth and service quality to expand and grow its services. You can also check more best VPNs tested and recommended by VPNRanks.

Unique Selling Proposition
Sorry to disappoint you, people, but Kepard does not have a unique selling proposition. That is because it is a budding VPN service provider. I will grill the living daylights out of Kepard in this review, but I cannot label a cost of $2.91/month as a unique selling proposition.
Plans and Pricing
Kepard VPN offers three pricing plans.
- 1-month subscription for $7
- 3-month subscription for $19 (coming to $6.33 per month)
- 12-month subscription for $35 (coming to $2.91 per month)
Once you select your desired Kepard VPN pricing plan, you will be asked to select your desired payment option. You may also enter in a promotion code (if you have one) at this point. Promotion codes are usually meant to provide Kepard VPN customers discounts on their subscriptions.
I found the subscription process slightly strange. I had already made an account on the Kepard VPN website when testing the support ticket feature. But I couldn’t use the same account when attempting to buy a subscription. I had no other choice but to use a different email address to complete the sign-up process.
Payment Methods
Kepard VPN accepts two payment options:
- Paypal
- Credit Card (Master Card, VISA, AMEX, Discover)
Selecting PayPal will redirect you to a PayPal gateway. The Paypal form is pretty standard and offers the additional option of paying through your credit card if you don’t have a PayPal account setup.
Selecting Credit Card will lead you to a form (gateway) powered by Google Wallet. At this point, you will be required to provide your country location information and credit card details. I found it quite annoying for the record when I saw that my Gmail account also got looped into the transaction when the Google Wallet window popped up.
It is a definite disadvantage that Kepard only accepts two payment methods, but I guess it has its pros and cons. At one end, Kepard is unable to cater to internet users who don’t have plastic (credit cards), while at the other end, Kepard is managing to keep the whole transaction process safe and secure. But seriously, two years down the road and only two payment methods is not a very encouraging picture.
Kepard’s Servers
Kepard does not provide any specifics about the number of VPN servers. However, Kepard has servers in 8 countries.
Kepard’s VPN servers are located in France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Canada, Germany, UK, and the US.
I invite you to search around on the internet to search for the number of servers that Kepard offers. I will bet you one month’s free VPN that not a single Kepard review will tell you how many servers Kepard offers! Ladies and gentlemen, competing VPN review websites, Kepard offers 15 VPN servers! Here is a break-up of the 15 VPN servers.
- USA – 3 servers
- UK – 3 servers
- Canada – 1 server
- Germany – 2 servers
- Sweden – 1 server
- Switzerland – 1 server
- France – 1 server
- Netherlands – 3 servers
If anybody from the Kepard service is reading this, yes, Ticket ID: 718191 was me asking about your server strength.
Kepard’s VPN Setup
The setup process will start with the usual Software License Agreement.
Select ‘I agree to the terms of this license agreement’ and click ‘Install.’ The setup will proceed, and you will see an installation progress bar.
Allow the installation to continue, and a small installation notification will open up. It will not contain a progress bar but do not worry.
Allow the installation to proceed while the above notification stays on your screen – the installation is taking place in the background.
A black DOS Prompt window may open out, but there is no need to worry. The installation is proceeding perfectly.
You will then be asked to permit the installation of device software. This is necessary for Kepard’s OpenVPN protocol. Checking the box is not necessary, and you may click ‘Install’ without checking the box. The installation will continue either way.
A driver installation notification will appear for a short time period.
Allow the installation to continue, and the following ‘Installation Successful’ notification will eventually appear.
Installation is now complete. The whole process should take no more than five minutes at best.
Kepard’s Speed Test
Before Kepard
I decided to take Kepard for a run and ran SpeedTest.net before downloading and running Kepard to get hold of my present internet speed’s statistics on ping, upload speed, and download speed.
After Kepard
After connecting Kepard, I obtained the following ping, upload, and download speed.
As you can see, ping and download speed has increased significantly. There is a slight increase in the upload speed, which is good, but that’s not what I need when I want to unblock US and UK websites to stream movies and TV shows.
Torrent & P2p
According to the Kepard Terms of Service, P2P and Torrent usage is only allowed on Kepard’s Netherlands servers.
Can I use Kepard with Kodi?
You cannot do so. You will have to use the best VPNs for Kodi to watch your desired media stuff securely.
Customer Support
Kepard’s customer support system is made up of four pillars:
- Support Ticket
- Frequently asked questions
- Basic affiliate questions
- Manual settings
Support Ticket
To create a ticket and access the Support Panel, you will need to create an account on the Kepard website. Once you have created your account, you may open a support ticket. You can also purchase a Kepard VPN subscription through your Kepard VPN account.
Frequently Asked Questions
This section contains a set of questions designed to address some basic questions about Kepard. These are usually the kind of questions that new or potential customers would ask. Information in the FAQs section deals with Kepard’s usage logging policy, VPN client’s system requirements, VoIP features, connection speed, etc.
Basic Affiliate Questions
Kepard seems to be very enthusiastic about getting hold of affiliates. At this point, I think this Kepard VPN review will not be complete without explaining that most VPN service providers usually place the ‘Affiliate’ link in the footer, where everyday users like you and me can’t find it unless we specifically go looking for it.
There is quite a lot of information available in the Basic Affiliate Questions section. Information is available on various technical and non-technical (money-related mostly) topics that deal with Kepard’s Affiliate management processes and standards.
Manual Settings
Kepard has to have one of the neatest Manual Settings sections. The user-friendly website contains manual setup instructions for a variety of operating systems.
Manual setup instructions come with screenshots to help users set up their Kepard VPN accounts.
Compatibility & Tutorials
Kepard offers a wide variety of tutorials. Setup instructions for desktops and hand-held devices are available separately.
Kepard provides OpenVPN on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Linux, and Mac OS-X.
PPTP protocol is available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Linux, and Mac OS X.
L2TP is available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X users.
In the smartphone category, both PPTP and L2TP/IPSec are available for Android, iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch(iOS).
Setup tutorials for all of these can be found in the Manual Configuration section of the Settings page on the Kepard website.
Here is an excellent quick video on how Kepard VPN works and what the Kepard Windows application looks like and functions:
Protocols And Encryption
According to the Kepard VPN app, Kepard offers four protocols from within the Kepard software.
- OpenVPN TCP
- Open VPN UDP
- PPTP
- L2TP
Kepard promises up 256-bit encryption.
Log And Privacy Policy
Kepard clearly states that it keeps running logs for a period of 3 days. This means that when you are using Kepard, at any given time, there is a log for all the internet activity you did while logged on to Kepard during the last three days. According to Kepard, logging allows Kepard to improve services and assist in troubleshooting while also fighting internet fraud.
There is no 72 hours loophole here because the FAQ section clearly states that “The logs are kept for 3 days”. You can rest easy, my fellow cyber-security cynics.
Kepard collects your email address and all the info you provide during the registration process. Kepard also logs the time period for which you are connected to VPN and uses it to calculate your free Premium VPN usage (i.e., the referral bonus VPN).
Free Trial
Kepard does not offer a free trial. However, it does offer 30 days of free Kepard VPN service if you manage to refer a friend to Kepard. You can refer up to 6 friends to Kepard, allowing you up to 180 days of free VPN service from Kepard. Not exactly what somebody looks for when searching for a free trial.
If you want to use Kepard’s free Premium VPN, start by making an account on Kepard’s website. The link to invite a friend to use Kepard is available on almost every page on the website. Click on it and follow the simple sign-up process to get your personalized referral link. Make sure your friend clicks on your personalized referral link to create an account and download Kepard’s application onto his/her computer. As soon as your friend signs up and starts using Premium VPN, you get your 30 days of Premium VPN.
Additional Services
Kepard does not offer any additional services… yet!
Alternatives
In case you do not want to use Kepard for any reason, you can use other VPNs after reading the below-mentioned reviews:

Who Should use Kepard?
Kepard is the VPN for you if you have no major VPN uses and need a VPN service that will keep you off the grid without costing too much (come on, $2.91 is pretty cool).
Feeling gloomy after reading this review? Don’t get bogged down; here are other VPN reviews that will cheer you up!
Conclusion
Kepard is the kind of service that chooses to compensate for a small server strength by using a unique strategy. It does not engage in any aggressive marketing and keeps the number of customers at a minimum. This way, even though the 12-month subscription plan falls to about $2.91 a month, the service is never too over-loaded to compromise on quality.
Even though Kepard has been around for almost two years now, it has not come up with anything significant.
This Kepard VPN review puts Kepard on the waiting list for successful VPNs. With servers in only 8 countries, Kepard is not a fully mature VPN service as yet. However, it would be unfair not to admit that Kepard shows potential and may become a leading VPN service in the future. All it needs is to expand a little and adopt a little bit of diversity in its services like other leading VPN service providers in the industry.
