Encrypyt.me is a US-based VPN service formerly called as Cloak VPN. The slogan of the service is to encrypt everything including your families and teams.

Likewise, the provider aims to deliver the highest extent of anonymity to users those who use Public Wi-Fi anywhere. The service calls itself a super simple VPN for the subscribers.

This Encrypt.me review revealed that the service does not have a huge server spread like PureVPN or NordVPN. Furthermore, it does not have a zero logs policy for its users.

It provides only a handful of tunneling protocols but supports torrenting and US Netflix.

My Rating Criteria

I have examined Encrypt.me as per my own 9 steps criteria that includes:

  1. Jurisdiction – Where is Encrypt.me located?
  2. Security – Is this VPN Secure?
  3. Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
  4. Servers – Are they P2P compatible?
  5. Speed – How fast Is Encrypt.me fast?
  6. Streaming – Does it unblock US Netflix?
  7. Compatibility – Apps and Supported devices
  8. Pricing – What is the cost of Encrypt.me?
  9. Trustworthiness – Trustpilot Ratings, Reddit & Customer Support

Jurisdiction – Where is Encrypt.me located?

Encrypt.me’s parent organization is located in the Dallas Texas. This puts the VPN right in the claws of the infamous five eyes alliance.

Five eyes is a group of countries that spy on their citizens and share it for ‘national security’ reasons. America is at the center of this all.

Encrypt.me is vulnerable to US’s powerful spy agencies. If ever NSA comes knocking on the provider’s door for your information, they would have no other choice but to give it away.

Security – Is this US based VPN Secure?

Encrypt.me keeps connection logs for more than two weeks. This is surely one of the major drawbacks that I found during this review.

Apart from this, they use Google Analytics and New Relic to understand their users’ online behavior.  Moreover, they are bound to note your IP addresses and email addresses when you signup for their free trial feature.

In terms of tunneling protocols and encryption, they have taken all the right steps. They have OpenVPN, IPsec, and an open-source protocol strongSwan in their armory.

On encryption front, they use custom generated 2048bit and 1536bit DH group encryption.

Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests

Encrypt.me is secure and safe to use because it does not reveal your actual whereabouts online. Here are the screenshots:

IP Leak:

DNS Leak:

WebRTC Leak:

Virus Test:

I tested its Google Play Android app link through VirusTotal and found no malware whatsoever:

Servers – Are they P2P compatible?

The provider is offering its services through 46 servers in 24 countries.

It offers plenty of servers from the United States, so if you are looking for a VPN with a decent spread in USA, Encrypt.Me should do the job.

Hence, the service needs to add more server locations in its armory to meet the requirements of the subscribers.

On the contrary, the service does support P2P activities of its users but does not allow downloading of copyrighted content at all.

Speed – Is Encrypt.me fast?

Encrypt.me does offer below-average connection speeds in general. I connected to its Mexican server to check its speed performance while using my 30 Mbps internet connection, I received the following outcome:

As you can see, there is a decline of 82% in speed.

Streaming – Does it unblock US Netflix?

Interestingly, Encrypt.me has started unblocking US Netflix media library. As a result, you may watch all your favorite US TV shows or movies from anywhere securely.

Compatibility – Apps and Supported Devices

You can use this VPN on Windows, Mac, Amazon, Android, and iOS. You can take benefit of setup guides available on the website to use dedicated apps on your preferred devices.

To my surprise, the encrypt.me download and installation process for all these apps is user-friendly.

Pricing – What is the cost of Encrypt.me?

Encrypt.me follows expensive pricing strategy across the board. Currently, they deliver following four major pricing plans:

  • Passes
  • Subscriptions
  • Families
  • Teams

They have also divided these above-described pricing plans into monthly and yearly plans. These are:

Likewise, the subscriptions plans have been divided into two other packages that include:

In terms of families, they offer following plans:

Similarly, teams have been divided into one major plan further:

The VPN has a free trail feature that you can avail up to 14 days. Considering the expensive pricing plans, the feature is surely a blessing in disguise.

Although, you will not avail maximum advantage from the package as the service implements certain data usage limits.

On the other hand, the provider offers different payment methods. However, the service does not deal in PayPal and Bitcoin as their online payment options.

Still, the brand is catering the needs of their subscriber through payment options those include:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • Discover
  • Diners
  • JCB cards

If you want to avail the one time passes, you can make the payment through In-App purchase. The option is available within the encrypt me VPN app hence; you do not need to use a credit card.

On refund front, the service also offers an exclusive refund policy to the users. Thus, you can avail the refund within 30 days if you do not find service as much efficient as you want.

You will have to send an email at [email protected] to the service to get your refund. However, if you purchase the service through In-App purchase then you cannot use the refund policy.

Trustworthiness – Trustpilot reviews, Reddit & Customer Support

This US based service does not have a massive coverage on Trustpilot. However, customers have provided relatively good reviews about its performance. There are 54% users those who have rated Encrypt.me excellent overall.

On the other hand, they have to improve their presence on Reddit.

In general, users have not appreciated their logging policies. You can find some good reddit VPNs here.

Customer Support

The provider does not offer various options to their subscribers. The customer support section lacks main features like live chat and a support ticket.

However, you can contact the service through an email and get the solution of your issues.

A detailed FAQ section also graces the help section of the provider’s website. By exploring the FAQ page, you can get answers of your questions related to troubleshooting, account activation, and billing concerns.

At present, they only offer two options:

  • Email
  • FAQs

Encrypt.me Alternatives

Although this VPN has offers maximum privacy to Netizens, it lacks in certain areas. If you are seeking alternatives of this VPN, do give following services a look.

Do I Recommend Encrypt.me?

No, I don’t recommend this VPN at all.

After conducting Encrypt.me review in detail, the service looks appropriate for new VPN users. The pricing factor of the provider does not attract the potential users since the service is extremely expensive.

Hence, the subscribers can avail the free trial feature to a great effect. Likewise, the provider has fallen short on other areas like speed, server spread, and logging policy.

Based on the above review, the service has earned 2.8/5.0 stars rating overall.
