CryptoStorm Review 2019
CryptoStorm is an expensive VPN service accessible at $4.33/month price. It offers servers in different countries that don't support US Netflix. The provider has managed to earn 2.7 stars rating.
CryptoStorm is an open source VPN service that follows an innovative token-based approach. Apart from this, the brand has heavily invested on providing various anonymous payment methods to their subscribers.
In this CryptoStorm review, I found its various attributes like pricing, server network, logging, security and refund policy not encouraging at all.

I have tested CryptoStorm according to my 8 step criteria that includes:
- Pricing – How much is CryptoStorm?
- Security – Protocols & Encryption
- Jurisdiction – Where is CryptoStorm located?
- Speed – Not on the Lower Side
- Streaming – Does it Assist Netflix & Torrenting?
- Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
- Trustworthiness – Logging Policy, DMCA Policy & Customer Support

Pricing – How much is CryptoStorm?
CryptoStorm follows relatively expensive pricing tactic in general.
The provider delivers four types of pricing plan including free VPN to its users. You can consider these packages in the form of :
- CryptoFree (Free Plan)
- PayPal ($1.86 for 7 Days) ($52 for year)
- CCBill ($6.00 )
- BitCoin ($6.00)
- Altcoin ($6.00)
You can subscribe to PayPal at the cost of $1.86. However, you can use the said account for 7 days only.
On the other hand, you can avail this plan after paying $52 for yearly basis. This way, you may obtain an exclusive multi-login feature too.
You will have to pay $6.00 upfront if you want to subscribe to CCBill package. The same goes for Bitcoin package as you can get the said plan at the cost of $6.00.
You can pay $16 to avail the subscription of Altcoin plan valid for two months. In this case, you may secure your two different devices instantly.
Similarly, you can pay your dues with PayPal, Credit Card, and BitCoin too. If you want to use anonymous payment method, you are free to avail numerous coin payment options.
These are Litecoin, Bitcoin cash, Ether, Classic, Smart Cash, Beam, Blackcoin and so on.
Likewise, if you review the refund policy of CryptoStorm thoroughly, you would realize that their policy is not much conducive to users.
In case you have not used your token’s duration more than 50%, you are eligible to get the refund.
To attain the refund, you will need to send an email at email@example.com.
Security – Protocols & Encryption
At present, the service only offers a handful of tunneling protocols to its subscribers.
Yes, you read that correctly. They are only providing OpenVPN and WireGuard protocols.
Luckily, an OpenVPN protocol uses 256-bit military grade encryption by default.
On privacy front, CryptoStorm has to take further steps to sustain their users’ anonymity.
Jurisdiction – Where is CryptoStorm located?
CryptoStorm mainly hails from safe jurisdiction. The said concept is clearly a make or break situation for any VPN service.
At times, users usually prefer to subscribe to VPN services those that do not belong to any five eyes, nine eyes, and fourteen eyes countries.
When I reviewed this VPN in detail, I found that its headquarter is based in Iceland. The country is regarded as one of the international leaders in promoting the concept of free speech.
The Iceland-based service discusses about bare-metal servers on its official website.
These bare metal servers are embedded with gresecurity that offers next level protection.
However, it does not specify the exact number of physical servers.
If you don’t know about bare metal servers, let me explain you briefly.
The physical servers are also known as bare metal servers.
In addition, the service has not disclosed any information about virtual server locations.
Therefore, you have an every right to differentiate between these types of servers in detail.
In order to clear the concept regarding physical and virtual servers, read our VPN server locations guide here.
Speed – On the Lower Side
CryptoStorm does not offer decent connection speeds to their users. I connected to its Denmark server while using 30 Mbps internet connection and obtained the following result:
The above screenshot suggests that there is a decline of 56% in speed.
Streaming – Does it Assist Netflix & Torrenting?
Unfortunately, you cannot use CryptoStorm VPN to access US Netflix media library from anywhere. For that reason, you will have to choose some other VPNs that unblock Netflix in no time.
On the other hand, you may use the service to secure your torrenting activities.
However, a catch may spoil your fun. To be honest, they do not tell you the exact number of servers and that is really a major drawback for them.
Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
CryptoStorm is secure and safe to use since it will not reveal your IP address, DNS or WebRTC information. Here are the screenshots:
I ran through its Windows setup file through Virustotal to see if it exposed any virus or malware.
To my surprise, it passed virus detection test with excellence.
Trustworthiness – Logging Policy & Customer Support
This Iceland based VPN provider keeps the record of its users’ online activities.
As per their official site, they are not interested in logging their users’ data.
Still, they say categorically that they monitor server activities 24/7 every day. Likewise, they can modify OpenVPN source code to change the actual IP addresses of their users.
This way, they can view the online activities of connected users at their will.
Thus, you must comprehend the logging policies of different VPNs as per your own terms.
CryptoStorm offers numerous support options. You may use its Webchat option to solve your queries instantly. Similarly, you can post your problems on its forum as well.
By doing so, you can get the solutions timely. You can approach them on Twitter too.
In the last but not least, you can overcome your technical issues if you contact them on Github.
Compatibility – How much Compatible CryptoStorm is?
In terms of compatibility, CryptoStorm VPN has ticked all the boxes correctly. The provider supports multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. It is also compatible with routers too.

Do I Recommend CryptoStorm?
No, I do not recommend CryptoStorm.
I have to conclude this CryptoStorm review here. During the analysis, I found its various feature quite interesting and above to my expectations.
They offer several anonymous payment options to their users. That said, its official site looks bit confusing.
If you are novice in the domain of online privacy, you may face issues while understanding the jargons.
Conversely, the pricing factor is on the higher side. In addition, the service is not an ideal choice for Netflix unblocking too.
I can safely say that CryptoStorm will take ample time to make a mark in an online privacy industry.
Based on the above review, I would give CryptoStorm 2.7/5.0 rating overall.
