TigerVPN – It has been around for even now, but why is it that it is not as popular as some of the other VPNs that we’ve covered in our VPN reviews 2022 guide? Well, to be honest, it is still not perfect. When writing this TigerVPN review in UK, I found it to lack a lot of features that you would normally find in VPNs like ExpressVPN or Surfshark in UK.

While it is fast and manages to unblock streaming services in UK like BBC iPlayer and Netflix, you can’t overlook the fact that it only offers a small server network.

Despite costing significantly more than more best VPN like Surfshark, TigerVPN offers below-average customer support and lacks basic security features like a Kill Switch in UK. All in all, for basic usage, TigerVPN is good enough, but don’t expect anything exceptional out of it. So, after considering its strengths and weaknesses, I’ve given TigerVPN a 2.5/5 star rating in this review in UK.

TigerVPN Review in UK – Rating Criteria

To thoroughly test TigerVPN for its pros and cons, I used my 9-step rating criteria:

  1. Jurisdiction – Where is TigerVPN located?
  2. Security – Does TigerVPN keep logs in UK?
  3. Leaks – Does TigerVPN leak IP, DNS, WebRTC?
  4. Servers – Is TigerVPN P2P compatible?
  5. Speed – How fast is TigerVPN in UK?
  6. Streaming – Does TigerVPN work with Netflix in UK?
  7. Compatibility – Which devices can I use TigerVPN with?
  8. Pricing – How much does TigerVPN cost in UK?
  9. Trustworthiness – Is TigerVPN safe to use?

Jurisdiction – Where is TigerVPN located?

TigerVPN is based in Slovakia. It has an office location in Romania and mainly operates under Slovakian law. Now, if you don’t know, Slovakia is mostly free of censorship. Slovakia also doesn’t fall under the jurisdiction of the infamous 5 eyes alliance, which is also great.

Since there are no data retention laws in Slovakia, it is free to refrain from keeping mandatory data logs. We’ll look over the logging policy of TigerVPN in a bit to see whether it keeps any logs or not.

Security – Does TigerVPN keep logs in UK?

Yes, TigerVPN keeps logs in UK, but only connection logs. If you go through their privacy policy page, you’ll see that they clearly mention a paragraph stating that they don’t keep activity logs. Here’s a snippet from their privacy policy:

“At no time, we store, read, analyze or in any other way process the traffic exchanged between you, our servers and the public internet. In other words, we do not save, read or have technical access to any DNS queries, websites you visit, data you transferred or communications”

TigerVPN also claims that it never has and will never sell, share, or give away any of its user’s private data. If we talk about the connection logs that it stores, here’s what they’ve mentioned in its privacy policy:

  • VPN protocol and version
  • Operating system
  • App version
  • Traffic statistic
  • Connection session (server location)
  • Favorite servers [optional]
  • Debug information [optional]

Considering that they don’t collect too much information and their connection logs aren’t too invasive, I think TigerVPN can supposedly pass as a no-logs VPN service in UK.

Encryption & Other Features

As for encryption and protocols, TigerVPN is pretty well equipped. Starting with encryption and TigerVPN supports industry-standard AES-256-CBC encryption with 2048-bit RSA for key exchange. As for protocols, it offers OpenVPN (TCP & UDP), L2TP/IPsec & PPTP tunneling protocols in UK.

But as for other security features, the VPN doesn’t offer much. I mean, you don’t even get a Kill Switch. And for more advanced options, forget about getting Spilt tunneling, obfuscation, or even an ad-blocker. This is where I think TigerVPN doesn’t offer any real value for money. In comparison, Surfshark offers way more features.

StickyPassword

TigerVPN is not completely barren in terms of features. If you opt for their annual plan, you can get a StickyPassword manager in UK. Although not specifically a feature associated with VPNs, it is still nice to see it included with TigerVPN’s annual subscription in UK.

Shimo VPN Manager

In addition to StickyPassword manager, TigerVPN also includes a Shimo VPN Manager in their annual plan for free. Although it sounds good, in reality, it is not. Shimo is basically a VPN client for macOS that can help you manage multiple VPNs in UK. However, I don’t see why TigerVPN would advertise this feature when they offer a standalone client for macOS in the first place.

Leaks – Does TigerVPN leak IP, DNS, WebRTC?

As for my leak test, TigerVPN performed quite well in UK. Since they use their own network and DNS servers, it did not leak my DNS, IP, and WebRTC during my testing. Just check out the screenshots below:

IP Leak Test:

For the IP leak test, I started with their US server. I connected to a server in Atlanta and ran the test. As you can see from the screenshot below, TigerVPN didn’t leak my original IP address.

DNS Leak Test:

Next, I moved on to the DNS leak test. For that, I used the same US server. Again, as you can see from the screenshot, all of my requests are routed through US DNS servers. So far, so good.

WebRTC Leak Test:

Lastly, I also ran TigerVPN through a series of WebRTC leak tests. Surprisingly enough, even after multiple tests, TigerVPN showed no sign of WebRTC leaks.

Virus Test:

Now I’m a bit paranoid when it comes to VPNs. So, I ran the Windows file through VirusTotal to be extra sure of what I was downloading on my computer. Luckily, the test result showed no hidden malware in UK.

Servers – Is TigerVPN P2P compatible?

As for torrenting, TigerVPN is P2P-compatible in UK. I’m sure any frequent torrent would appreciate this feature. However, TigerVPN strongly recommends downloading torrents for legal purposes. So, I guess subliminally. They don’t want you to download torrents.

Personally, I didn’t encounter any real issues downloading torrents in UK. However, do keep in mind that we only offer 300 servers in 42 countries, so your performance might vary from mine.

Aside from their small server network, one thing that really disappointed me was the lack of obfuscated servers. This can be a major turndown for anyone looking to use TigerVPN in China or other similarly censored countries. If this concerns you, you might want to go with ExpressVPN or Surfshark which offers tons of servers and supports obfuscation in UK.

Does TigerVPN work in China?

Well, no. TigerVPN doesn’t work in China. I tried unblocking websites like QQ and Baidu with their server locations in Hanoi and Hong Kong, and both of them didn’t work. That’s where having obfuscated servers would have helped.

But at the moment, unfortunately, TigerVPN didn’t manage to bypass the Great Firewall. If accessing Chinese content is something you look for in a VPN, I highly suggest checking out ExpressVPN in UK.

Speed – How fast is TigerVPN in UK?

As for speeds in our testing for the TigerVPN review in UK, it showed a decent speed. However, performance can be a bit inconsistent across its servers. For instance, while its US and Canadian servers were quite fast, its server located in London, UK, was fairly sluggish. First, here’s a screenshot of my internet speed on my 35 Mbps connection without TigerVPN:

US Server:

First off, I check the speeds while connected to Miami, Chicago, and Denver servers. I managed to get an average speed of around 26.43 Mbps with multiple US servers, which is pretty good.

Canada Server:

Next, I connected to servers in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. With the Canadian server, I managed to get a slightly better average downloading speed of 27.18 Mbps.

UK Server:

With the UK server, speeds dropped quite a bit. I tested the speeds while connected to the London and Manchester servers. On average, the UK server managed to output around 15.81 Mbps which is not all that good. Overall, TigerVPN is fast, but its speeds can be inconsistent at times.

Streaming – Does TigerVPN work with Netflix in UK?

Although a bit inconsistent when it comes to speeds, TigerVPN still easily managed to unblock American Netflix in UK. I connected to its New York server, played “Rick and Morty,” and it worked. The video playback quality was also quite good. I encountered no streaming issue at all to complain about.

Other Streaming Services that work with TigerVPN

Aside from “Rick and Morty” and Netflix, I also managed to unblock BBC iPlayer with its UK server. I tried streaming “Luther” with its Manchester server, and it worked. Although, the streaming quality wasn’t particularly the best in UK. But I do have to give it credit for even managing to unblock it in the first place.

Compatibility – How many devices do TigerVPN support?

As far as compatibility is concerned, TigerVPN is pretty good in UK. You can use it with Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. But that’s not the good part. TigerVPN is also compatible with DD-WRT routers, Linux and Chromebooks. But do keep in mind that you’ll have to rely on manual setups instead of directly downloadable apps.

TigerVPN for Windows & Mac

First, let’s talk about the Windows and macOS apps of TigerVPN. Aside from being good-looking and bug-free, there’s not a lot to like about their apps. I mean, you’re not going to find many options for customization. You’re also not going to find any security features like Kill Switch or leak protection. Overall, not a big fan of their apps. When they’re charging so much, they should have at least added basic features.

TigerVPN for iOS & Android

As for the iOS and Android apps, again, they’re also void of any features. I like the interfaces, though, and the fact that they’re fast, but that’s about it. There’s not a lot to like about their apps. In comparison, ExpressVPN and Surfshark offer way better apps with tons of features. As for mobile app ratings, TigerVPN has a 2.2-star rating on Google Play Store and a similar rating on iTunes.

Pricing – How much does TigerVPN cost in UK?

Considering its lack of features and the price of its subscription plans in UK, I think TigerVPN is quite expensive in UK. The provider offers three (3) plans, and all of them are relatively expensive compared to a much better VPN like Surfshark. They offer multi-logins, but the number of devices depends on which plan you go for. Here is the pricing for all of their plans in UK:

tigervpn-pricing-plans

As for multi-logins, the 1-month plan supports two (2) devices simultaneously in UK. The 12-months plan supports three (3) multi-logins, and the 3-years plan allows you to connect five (5) devices simultaneously in UK. As for payment methods, TigerVPN accepts Credit Cards, PayPal, Paymentwall, and License codes. One thing I particularly liked about TigerVPN is that it supports Bitcoins for anonymous payments.

tigervpn-payment-methods

Last but not least, let’s talk about their refund policy. TigerVPN only offers a 7-day money-back guarantee. Again, this is something other VPNs do way better.

Trustworthiness – Is TigerVPN safe to use?

Well, yes, TigerVPN is pretty trustworthy in UK. That’s because TigerVPN actually keeps no logs. Also, the fact that TigerVPN is based in Slovakia, it is totally safe to use, in my opinion. As for their Trustpilot rating, however, TigerVPN has a pretty terrible rating. It only has 1.3/5.0 stars on Trustpilot. As for reviews, TigerVPN has 72% Excellent reviews and only 12% Bad reviews.

Customer Support

In terms of support, TigerVPN is pretty decent. They offer live chat support, but you do have to be logged in to use it. They offer an email ticketing system as well, but it is quite slow if you ask me. I sent them a query, but they only got back to me after a couple of hours. In a nutshell, here are all the support options you get:

  • Troubleshooting
  • Manual Setup Guides
  • General Question
  • Talk to Human (you need to log in first)

Comparison between ExpressVPN and TigerVPN in UK

So overall in this TigerVPN review in UK, this VPN has a pretty decent service. However, it is a bit expensive considering that it only offers a few features. If you want to check out something other than this VPN, you might want to check out this comparison:

Alternatives to TigerVPN in UK

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to VPNs. Would you agree? Some demand foolproof security while others ask for fast speeds. If TigerVPN is not perfect for you in UK, here are some alternatives for you to consider:

Do I Recommend TigerVPN in UK?

Yes, I do recommend TigerVPN in UK. However, I can’t give it a spotless rating. And there are a lot of reasons why. For one, it only offers a small server network. In addition, TigerVPN seriously lacks features. And the number one turn-off for me is its price.

It just doesn’t justify the price of GB£2.27/mo, considering that are far better VPNs that cost way less.

In a nutshell, I found the service to work in bits and pieces. While it performs well in certain areas, it lacks seriousness in others. Overall, because TigerVPN is fast and works with Netflix and torrenting, I can only give it 2.5/5.0 stars in this TigerVPN review in UK.
