London, February 19, 2025 –Hackers stole 400GB of sensitive banking data from Finastra. Affected individuals are now being notified, but many questions remain unanswered.
Financial software giant Finastra has begun notifying individuals that their personal and financial information was stolen in a major data breach. The attack, which occurred between October 31 and November 8, 2024, exposed sensitive data after hackers infiltrated an internal secure file transfer system.
The breach first surfaced in November 2024, when a hacker claimed to have stolen 400GB of data and offered it for sale on a dark web forum. While Finastra initially downplayed the incident, new details have emerged as it starts notifying affected customers.
The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) confirms that at least 65 residents have been affected—but the actual number could be far higher. Leaked files reportedly contain names and financial account details, raising concerns about fraud and identity theft.
A cybersecurity expert Nathaniel Morales said:
Finastra’s failure to disclose the full scope of the breach raises serious concerns. If 400GB of data was stolen, the number of impacted individuals could be staggering.
Interestingly, the hacker’s dark web post was quickly deleted, leading to speculation that Finastra may have negotiated with the attackers to prevent wider exposure. While the company insists the risk of misuse is low, experts warn that stolen financial data could still surface on underground marketplaces.
