In a shocking cybersecurity breach, Casio’s UK online store has fallen victim to a massive credit card-skimming attack, but new revelations indicate it was just one target among many. Security firm Jscrambler has uncovered a coordinated global hacking campaign that has infiltrated at least 17 other e-commerce websites, stealing customer payment details through fake checkout pages.
Hackers injected malicious skimming scripts into Casio’s website between January 14 and 24, capturing sensitive information, including credit card numbers, billing addresses, and CVV codes. The breach was discovered only after 10 days, raising serious concerns about security vulnerabilities in online retail platforms.
Pedro Fortuna, CTO of Jscrambler said:
This was not an isolated incident. We are witnessing a widespread and highly sophisticated attack on global e-commerce platforms. Hackers exploited Magento vulnerabilities, which remain a major weak point in online security.
The attack involved fake checkout forms that seamlessly redirected victims to the real payment page after stealing their data. Shockingly, experts believe this method could be undetectable to most users. A cybersecurity analyst Emma Clarke warned:
With thousands of online stores using outdated security protocols, these skimming attacks could be happening on an even larger scale than we realize.
As investigations continue, security experts urge consumers to check credit card statements and use virtual payment cards to avoid fraud. Meanwhile, businesses are being pushed to strengthen their cybersecurity defenses before this wave of digital theft spirals out of control.
