Tunnello VPN Review 2023

Tunnello is a French VPN service available at relatively expensive $4.16/mo price. It offers 110+ servers in 14 countries worldwide that do not support Netflix and torrenting too. The provider has earned 2.5 stars rating overall.

Attention!!
Unfortunately, Tunnello is no longer active.  Check out some of the top VPNs that are available:

Tunnello is a lightweight new VPN service that made it to the VPN industry in 2017.

The provider is based in France, which is an unsafe jurisdiction. Moreover, it does not have a multitude of servers like NordVPN or ExpressVPN.

However, according to our Tunnello VPN Review, it allows users to avail free trial feature for a week. On the other hand, it does not support US Netflix and torrenting too.

Therefore, I do not recommend Tunnello VPN to privacy seekers across the globe.

Tunnello VPN Review: My Rating Criteria

Tunnello VPN Review – I tested Tunnello VPN through my own developed 8-step criteria that include:

  1. Pricing – What is the cost of Tunnello?
  2. Security – Protocols & Encryption
  3. Jurisdiction – Where is Tunnello VPN situated?
  4. Speed – Above Average
  5. Streaming – Does it Support Netflix & Other Streaming Services
  6. Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
  7. Trustworthiness – Logging Policy & Customer Support
  8. Compatibility – Not much supportive

Pricing – What is the cost of Tunnello?

According to Tunnello VPN Review, pricing wise Tunnello is not the cheapest VPN out there. On top of that, they only offer two (2) subscription plans, monthly and yearly. These are:

Although I don’t like Tunnello’s subscription plans that’s why I am not recommending it in this Tunnello VPN Review, I do have it say, they do offer quite a bit of secure payment options.

MasterCard, PayPal, Visa, American Express, Bitcoin and Ali Pay are all supported.

Aside from that, I love that Tunnello VPN offers a free 7-day trial. That’s great if you don’t feel like gambling with a new VPN service.

Another thing I don’t like about Tunnello VPN is their refund policy, or should I say a lack of a refund policy.

Yes, that’s right, Tunnello doesn’t guarantee any refund. In their terms and conditions, they’ve clearly mentioned that they do not offer any financial reimbursements.

Take a look at the screenshot below…

Security – Protocols & Encryption

Tunnello only offers AES-256 and RSA-4096 bit encryption protocols, that’s about it. Now don’t get wrong, that’s plenty for day-to-day use, however, a bit more flexibility would have been nice to see.

Tunnello claims the protocol and encryption they’re using is not only impossible to crack but also barely affects speeds.

Jurisdiction – Where is Tunnello VPN situated?

Right of the bat, their jurisdiction of operation is highly questionable. Let me tell you why…

Since Tunnello is based in France, it does fall under the surveillance of the Nine Eyes. For those of you who’ve never heard of the Nine Eyes, it’s basically an even greater online surveillance alliance.

Countries like France Denmark Norway and the Netherlands are part of this massive alliance.

Operating from a jurisdiction that retains user data is a major no, no in the VPN industry.

Since Tunnello is headquartered in France, it is obligated to log user data by state laws.

Server Locations

Server wise I can’t complain too much, I mean they’re still in their infancy stage. At the moment they offer around 1100 servers. Although this number is nothing compared to giants, however, it’s not bad for a newbie.

Coverage wise they’re also decent. You do get to choose from 14 different locations.

Here is the screenshot of their current server coverage:

Again, their server coverage is fairly good. One thing Tunnello VPN is really good at is bypassing the Chinese firewall. That’s something we’re used to seeing from only renowned VPN providers.

Speed – Above Average

On speed front, Tunnello delivers decent connection speeds. When I connected to its Hong Kong server using 25 Mbps internet connection, I received the following result:

Speed-Tunnello-VPN

I was able to get an appreciable 18.59 Mbps download speed in return. As you can see, there was a decline of negligible 26% in speed overall.

Streaming – Does it assist Netflix or Torrenting?

Unfortunately, Tunnello does not unblock  US Netflix media library. Therefore, streaming lovers would have to opt for other VPNs like ExpressVPN or NordVPN to accomplish their media cravings.

Similarly, the same goes for torrenting as well.

Even the following guide will help you out by installing a VPN on Kodi.

Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests

What makes Tunnello different from other VPNs is its leak-proof feature. This is because the service does not reveal your actual whereabouts be its IP address, DNS or WebRTC data online.

Here are the screenshots:

WebRTC Leak:

As far as their digital fitness goes, I checked its Chrome extension through VirusTotal and found no malware at all.

Trustworthiness – Logging Policy & Customer Support

As per our analysis in Tunnello VPN Review, unlike other more renowned VPN providers that clearly mention no data logging policy on their websites, Tunnello doesn’t. Nowhere on their website do they mention anything about “Zero data logging”.

Taking a look at their privacy policy and it becomes even more obvious.

Under the heading called “Collection of general data and information” of their privacy policy, Tunnello clearly mentions all the information they log about their users.

Take a look at the screenshot below…

Long story short, Tunnello falls under the jurisdiction of the Nine Eyes and they definitely do log user data.

Customer Support

Customer support is not all that great. Right from the bat, there is no live chat support. Coming from using NordVPN, I really do miss the live chat feature.

Aside from that, there are only a handful of troubleshooting and getting started guides.

Their email support is also considerably sluggish.

Compatibility – Not much supportive

Their device compatibility is also scarce. At present, they only support Google Chrome and Android, that’s about it.

There are no dedicated apps for Windows, Macs, Linux or even iOS, you just have to make do with either their Android app or the Chrome extension.

Although they don’t offer support for a lot of devices, they do make up for it with their Chrome extension.

I found their Chrome extent to be very lightweight and surprisingly fast in terms of connection speeds. It hardly took any time connecting to the server of my choice.

Interface wise it’s pretty clean. There’s a simple drop-down to select different servers and a one-click go button to enable the VPN.

Overall, the Chrome extension is very convenient to use.

Tunnello VPN Review  Alternatives to Tunnello

Here are the alternatives for Tunnello VPN if you don’t find its features impressive. Have a look at it:

Do I Recommend Tunnello VPN?

According to my observations in this Tunnello VPN Review, I do not recommend Tunnello VPN.

Well to brutally honest, it’s definitely not for everyone. Their jurisdiction is not the safest, to do keep logs, they only offer apps for Android and Google Chrome and they don’t offer a money back guarantee.

These are some issue that is really off-putting for me.

That said, there is also a lot to love about Tunnello as well.

For instance, the speeds are above average, the Chrome app works tremendously well, it doesn’t leak and it easily unblocks the great firewall of China.

Oh! And it even offers a free 7-day trial.

So yes, if you’re a casual user who just wants better streaming speeds and geo-lock bypassing capabilities, then Tunnello is suitable for you.

However, for torrenting and other related stuff, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Based on the above review, I would assign the service 2.5/5.0 stars rating overall.
