VPN99 is a UK based VPN service that is named after its cheap price of $0.99.
In this detailed VPN99 review, I have analyzed its pricing, logging policy, jurisdiction, compatibility, support, Netflix and torrenting assistance as well.
Therefore, I don’t recommend the service to internet users from all around the world.
The provider is only offering servers from five (5) countries. On the other hand, PureVPN or Surfshark are providing servers in huge numbers across the globe.

My Rating Criteria
- Pricing – How much is VPN99?
- Security – Protocols & Encryption
- Jurisdiction – Where is VPN99 located?
- Speed – On the Lower Side
- Streaming – Does it unblock Netflix?
- Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
- Trustworthiness – Logging Policy & Customer Support
- Compatibility – How much compatible VPN 99 is?
Pricing – How much is VPN99?
The biggest strength I discovered while conducting this review is its cheap price. Here is the list of pricing plans VPN offers to their users that include:
- Quarterly pricing plan at the cost of $2.97 ($0.99/mo)
- Semi-annually pricing plan at the cost of $5.94 ($0.99/mo)
- Yearly plan at the cost of $11.88 ($0.99)
- Two yearly plan at the cost of $23.76 ($0.99)
As compared to ExpressVPN, VPN99 seems to be one of the cheapest VPN services in the industry.
I was impressed to note that the service offers attractive pricing on all the packages. All these plans include two simultaneous connection feature too.
Therefore, it would not be a surprise if we observe a large customer base in near future.

Payment Methods
You can either pay VPN99 either with credit cards or through a crypto currency. As I learned while researching for this VPN99 review, it boasts Bitcoin and Ethereum as anonymous paying methods.
The unpredictable nature of cryptocurrencies have made many providers turn away from this option.
But this VPN stands out by still providing this mode of payment to its potential subscribers.
Money Back Guarantee
If the users do not want to continue the service after the initial usage, they can claim for the full refund. They should contact the support team through [email protected] within 24 hours after purchasing VPN99 subscription.
The said refund policy is not enough since the service does not have a free trial benefit in its armory.
Security – Protocols & Encryption
The service offers impressive tunneling protocols like OpenVPN , L2TP, IPsec and PPTP.
Readers of this VPN99 review will be glad to know that it offers a military grade AES-256 bit encryption.
This encryption level has so far proven to be impenetrable.
VPN99 also offers PPTP with 128-bit encryption level but does not offer required level of security to the subscribers.
Based on my evaluation, these options are good enough to secure you from sophisticated cyber-attacks.
Jurisdiction – Where is VPN99 located?
VPN99 belongs to five eye country UK. Therefore, the country has to follow certain data retention regulations by hook or crook.
The service also follows its own data retention policy that is big bone of contention from users’ privacy point of view.
Server Spread
VPN99 offers seventy-two (72) servers in five (5) countries. These three countries are Russia, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands and USA.
Considering the importance of servers’ network, VPN99 has to increase its prevailing network of servers globally.
Otherwise, the users may anticipate connectivity issues because of unavailability of their required servers.
Speed – On the Lower Side
VPN99 does not possess blazing fast servers. This is because I did not get decent connection speeds when I connected to their German server using 30 Mbps internet connection:
I was able to receive 12.76 Mbps download speed in return.
Interestingly, this VPN cuts down your speed by 57%.
Streaming – Does it unblock Netflix?
VPN99 is not a good streaming option because it does not allow users access US Netflix media library.
Moreover, the service does not support the P2P activities of the users. The provider suspends the account of subscriber that uses the VPN for secure torrenting.
Therefore, you would be better off using our best VPN for torrenting.
Although, it does work on Kodi but you will find a lack of speed. Kodi is a media player that requires fast VPNs to stream Live TV content smoothly.
Fortunately, I have the list of best VPNs for Kodi that has the fastest speed.
Leaks – IP, DNS, WebRTC & Virus Tests
VPN99 is not secure since it may expose your DNS data online. Moreover, its client file is full of various malwares that may harm your devices a great deal. Here are the screenshots:

DNS Leak:
WebRTC Leak:
Virus Test:
I ran its Windows setup file through VirusTotal.com and found numerous viruses.
Trustworthiness – Logging Policy & Customer Support
Right of the bat, the logging policy of this VPN is riddled with faults.
Not only does this service keeps your information, it shares this information with third parties for plenty of reasons.
This puts your privacy at stake.
Primary purpose of a VPN is to keep your information limited to as little number of people as possible. If the VPN is sharing your data left and right, there is no point in employing it.
Customer Support
On support front, the UK based VPN service delivers different options including:
- FAQs
- Setup Guides
Through FAQs, subscribers may get the right answer of their questions in a timely manner.
Compatibility – How much compatible VPN99 is?
The service is compatible with the following platforms:
- Windows
- Mac
- Android
- Linux
- iOS
VPN99 works on Windows, Android, Mac and iOS through OpenVPN app. On Linux, it needs to be configured manually.
Interestingly, VPN99 has extensions for both Chrome and Firefox.
Windows
Netizens with Windows OS can either manually configure the VPN or use it through the OpenVPN client.
The process of using this VPN on the OS is not complicated. But if you need some help, there are guides available on the provider’s website.
Mac
VPN99 can be enabled on Mac through Tunnelblick OpenVPN client or the built-in L2TP support. A step by step on provider’s website illustrates the entire process.
With VPN99 protecting your Mac device, hackers and identity thief will have hard time breaking in.
Android
Similar to other platforms, VPN99 uses the OpenVPN APK app to work on the Android OS.
So to use the VPN, you need to download the latest version of OpenVPN and add VPN99 config. The VPN also provides an option to configure it via PPTP but I would not advise that.
You can read our detailed blog on best VPN apps for Android to explore 11 top VPNs in the industry.
iOS
To use VPN99 on your iPhone or iPad, you will need to install the OpenVPN Connect iOS app.
OpenVPN Connect has plenty of drawbacks. Lagging is a common complaint with this app.
So, the built-in L2TP is another viable option. It is also a bit light on your battery.

Do I Recommend VPN99?
No, I don’t recommend VPN99.
I will conclude this VPN99 review highlighting that this service is pretty decent.
However, it has to work on some areas like limited number of servers and the logging policy.
If the users are willing to save handsome amount, VPN99 should be their preferred choice. This is because the provider allows the users to pay as low as 0.99 per month on all the pricing plans.
I expect the provider will drastically enhance its reputation on other fronts like Netflix, torrenting, refund policy and customer support.
Based on the above analysis, I would assign them 2.5/5.0 stars rating overall.
