Proxy Server Review 2020

This US based VPN service is accessible at costly $6.00/month price. It has 36 servers in 25 countries that don't support US Netflix. Although, it offers 2 simultaneous connection feature. The provider has earned 2.7 stars rating.

Proxy Server started out as a proxy service but transformed into a full-fledge VPN service in 2015.

It specializes in providing encryption and tunneling through the OpenVPN protocol. However, the server lacks on different fronts like customer support, pricing, compatibility, logging policies and jurisdiction.

Therefore, I don’t recommend the service because it does not have a huge server spread like PureVPN or Surfshark.

To know more about VPNs other than Proxy Server, go through VPN reviews 2020 guide.

My Rating Criteria

I have developed my own 8 steps rating criteria to test any VPN service that includes:

  1. Pricing – How much is Proxy Server?
  2. Security – Protocols & Encryption
  3. Jurisdiction – Belongs to Five Eye Country
  4. Speed – Not on the Higher Side
  5. Streaming – Does it Support Netflix & Torrenting?
  6. Leaks – IP, DNS & WebRTC Tests
  7. Trustworthiness – Logging Policy & Customer Support
  8. Compatibility – How many platforms does Proxy Server assist?

Pricing – How much is Proxy Server?

The VPN delivers relatively expensive pricing plans to their users. At present, you can select your preferred package from these below mentioned plans:

All these packages allow two simultaneous connections and have no bandwidth limitations whatsoever. Here is the list of payment methods Proxy Server offers to their users that includes:

  • PayPal
  • VISA
  • Master Card
  • Discover

The service also offers 30 days refund that allows you to experience its performance on your preferred devices thoroughly.

Proxy Server is quite expensive keeping in mind it’s ratings. So if you’re looking for a more premium VPN at low prices, check out our awesome deals on VPN to get amazing discounts!

Security – Protocols & Encryption

In terms of security,  the provider only offers OpenVPN protocol. This particular protocol is adequate to protect your online privacy.

OpenVPN is the most commonly used protocol and for a good reason. With this protocol, you get a perfect balance of speed and security.

Proxy server provides AES 256 bit encryption. This is the most commonly used encryption standard and is widely respected for providing reliable online security and data protection for all use cases.

Jurisdiction – Belongs to Five Eye Country

Unfortunately, the service mainly hails from an unsafe US jurisdiction. It means that the service belongs to 5 eyes country and that is a big drawback from users’ online privacy perspective.

Therefore, the provider would have to abide by mandatory data retention laws in the right way.

The provider currently has 36 VPN servers spanning in 25 countries. The VPN server spread is rapidly expanding and covers all major server locations that are preferred by VPN users.

You can choose between locations in the US, the UK, Netherlands, Singapore and many other countries from around the world.

Speed – Not on the Higher Side

In general, their server speeds are below average. When I connected to its Netherlands server using my 25 Mbps internet connection, I received 11.51 Mbps download speed.

It means there was a 54% decline in speed.

Streaming – Does it Support Torrenting & Netflix?

From streaming point of view, Proxy Server is not an ideal choice. The service does not help users access US Netflix media library from anywhere.

On the other hand, it assists torrenting activities of their users conditionally. You cannot download and watch your favorite copyrighted material through this VPN.

Leaks – IP, DNS & WebRTC Tests

Proxy Server cleared all the leak tests.  It did not leak my IP, DNS and WebRTC information online. Here are the screenshots:

Trustworthiness – Logging Policy & Customer Support

The US based VPN service does keep its users’ log. They are bound to collect users’ personal information through different sources like cookies and usage data.

This way, they can keep users’ first name along with email addresses for indefinite period. On top of cherry, they don’t offer any kind of anonymous payment option like Bitcoin.

Therefore, their logging policy is troublesome for privacy conscious users to certain degree.

Customer Support

On support front, the service only offers two main resources and these are:

  • Email
  • Mailing Address

You can contact the Proxy server team by writing an email to their team. The email address you have to use is [email protected]

Alternatively, you can take old-fashion approach write a letter to the mailing address of the service. The mail address of the service is PO Box 1892 Athens, GA, 30603, USA.

Compatibility – How many platforms does Proxy Server assist?

Proxy server comes with standard compatibility for Windows and Mac. Similarly, a custom client for Windows is available for all Proxy server users and can be downloaded from the official website.

The client works on both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows. In addition, it has a VPN client for Mac as well.

You can also use your Proxy server VPN to unblock content on your Chromecast, Roku and PS3 by bridging your Windows connection with other devices.

Windows Client

The gWindows client is user-friendly and easy on the eye. The first screen you will see is a simple one containing two fields where you are required to provide your login credentials.

Furthermore, a drop-down menu of the server list is on the main interface of the client. We found this particular aspect of the software to be extremely convenient.

The client shows the actual IP address of the user in addition to the one provided by the service. This way, you are always whether you are connect to the service or not.

Lastly, connecting and disconnecting to the VPN is a one-click operation and barely takes few seconds.

Comparison between PureVPN and Proxy Server

I have described the attributes of both these VPNs, you should decide which VPN is better for you:

Alternatives to Proxy Server

Since this VPN service lacks in some commonly desired privacy features, some readers may be looking for its alternatives. These are:

Do I Recommend Proxy Server?

No, I don’t recommend Proxy Server.

Proxy server may be a relatively new VPN service. This is the reason why it lacks some features found in well-established VPN services.

However, Proxy server encourages OpenVPN, comes with multi-login feature, and provides unlimited bandwidth.

There are many areas in which this service can prove. It needs to release clients for Android and iOS. Moreover, it should consider including kill switch and other privacy features like multi-hop in its desktop clients.

Therefore, I have given this service 2.7/5.0 stars rating overall.
