Proxy server

Proxyserver is one of the most unique VPN services that you will find. It specializes in providing encryption and tunneling through the OpenVPN protocol, with Java on top. This gives you higher levels of online security and stronger levels of anonymity than that which you will find with a standard run-of-the-mill VPN service.

Proxyserver does not have any complicated plans or packages. The all-in-one package comes with all features included and is available for a price of $4.99 per month.

This is actually a very pocket friendly price tag – especially if you consider the fact that it comes with military grade encryption and a multi-login feature that lets you connect two devices over one account at the same time. The two-for-one feature means that the net cost of running Proxyserver on one device is actually less than $2.50!

In addition, there are no data or bandwidth limits so you don’t have to worry about the rest of the year once you have signed up.

Proxy server

Proxyserver currently has a VPN server network spanning in four countries around the world. The VPN server spread is rapidly expanding and covers all major server locations that are preferred by VPN users.

You can choose between locations in the US (NewYork and San Francisco), UK (London), Netherlands (the Netherlands) and Singapore.

The number of Proxyserver VPN servers is rapidly expanding, and the top priority is to position most of the servers in the US because it is the most feasible VPN server choice.

Proxyserver comes with standard compatibility for Windows, Mac and Linux. These are mainstream software that are used around the world.

  • A custom client for Windows is available for all Proxyserver users and can be downloaded from the official website. The client works on both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows.
  • Proxyserver is working on a VPN client for Mac but a pre-release beta version is available for Linux users who make a request.
  • The Proxyserver client for Linux has not been released officially as yet but a preview release is available for x64 and x84 versions of the OS.

In addition, you can also use your Proxyserver VPN to unblock content on your Chromecast, Roku and PS3 by bridging your Windows connection with other devices.

Proxyserver does not officially offer any compatibility for smartphones at the moment, but there are lots of VPN veterans out there who will help you setup the service on your smartphone if you want.

The compatibility of a VPN says a lot about the technological proficiency of the service. I have reviewed dozens of VPN service providers and I have observed that very few offer support for Linux users. In fact, only a few have custom VPN clients for Linux. Proxyserver may be one of the latest entrants in the VPN world, but it is clearly not a small-time setup. Expert programmers and software architects are needed to create VPN clients, and Proxyserver seems to have a highly skilled workforce that will undoubtedly deliver top-notch software in the near future.

Client Area

Creating an account on Proxyserver will allow you to track your tickets and your invoices. You uwill be able to upgrade/downgrade and download Proxyserver’s clients for

The Proxyserver client area is extremely user-friendly and provides a lot of information. You will be able to monitor your login record, the number of hours you have been logged in to Proxyserver, and the data volume you have uploaded/downloaded.

Proxyserver Review

The ‘Management Actions’ in the client area was my favorite place. You can see server status and server traffic loads, monitor downloads.

I noticed that Proxyserver almost never has a lot of traffic on it. This is typical for a fresh VPN service since it takes about a year or two before the user count reaches millions. The good news is that this means that the users who join in the beginning get super fast speeds, 100% server uptime, and no jammed data highways!

ProxyServer Windows Client

The Proxyserver Windows client is probably the most user friendly VPN software I have ever used. The first screen you will see is a very simple one containing two fields and a drop down box that allows you to select the VPN server of your choice.

ProxyServer Windows Client

Simply enter your login credentials into their respective fields, select the VPN server of your choice and hit connect. You will then see a progress bar that will keep you posted about the status of your VPN tunnel. Your original IP address and location will also be visible on the Proxyserver Windows client screen.

Under normal circumstances the connection progress bar should move at lightning speed and have you connected within seconds. It usually never takes longer than 5 seconds to connect but if it takes longer than 15 seconds then you might want to look into ways to increase your internet speed.

Once the connection has been established, the Proxyserver Windows client will display your VPN IP address and location in addition to the amount of data sent and received over the VPN connection.

ProxyServer Windows Client

As you can see, Proxyserver is very easy to use and follows a very straightforward approach to online security, anonymity and accessibility. There are no complicated procedures or configurations that have to be executed and the client sets up your VPN tunnel almost instantly.

Proxyserver provides AES 128 bit encryption. This is the most commonly used encryption standard and is widely respected for providing reliable online security and data protection for all use cases.

Payment Methods

Proxyserver is a relatively new VPN service so the list of accepted payment methods is not very long. At the moment, Proxyserver is only accepting payments through PayPal. This might sound like something of a limitation but it is actually a very sensible and sufficient payment option.

PayPal is accepted around the world and allows you to pay through your Visa/MasterCard, giving you the power to make your payments from anywhere in the world. It is one of the most secure payment channels available online and is very easy to use.

Contact and Customer Support

You can contact the ProxyServer team by filling out the Contact form available on the website. Filling out the form will open a support ticket for your query and the ProxyServer support staff will respond to your question through email.

Judging by the fact that Proxyserver is developing and growing rapidly, I estimate that there will be a LiveChat support feature up on the website within a few months.

Free Version – Basic Proxy

The cherry on top is the Basic free web proxy. It is the first thing that you will see on the ProxyServer home page and is the easiest/fastest way to unblock websites. Although I recommend that you avoid trying stream movies over it or conducting sensitive online transactions – that is what the VPN is there for.

Differences between Basic Free web Proxy and ProxyServer VPN

The Basic Free web Proxy does not offer unlimited bandwidth and does not give you the advantage of having the power of a global server spread at your fingertips. It is not an ineffective tool and is ideal for short runs but it does not come with 128 bit AES encryption and it does not support VoIP software like Skype, etc.

In a Nutshell

ProxyServer may be a relatively new VPN service but it has all the standard features that you would expect to find in a veteran VPN service provider. Proxyserver encourages OpenVPN, comes with multi-login feature, provides unlimited bandwidth, zero-logging, and more.

There may be some areas where ProxyServer can improve but then that is the story with just about every VPN service these days. However, I feel that this is one of the most well structured, user-friendly, cost effective and secure VPN services that I have reviewed in a long time.

Author’s Recommendation

The thing about Proxyserver is that the people running the service seem to care about their product and the people who use it. The tutorials and use cases are explained in detail and the instructions are very user-friendly.
