San Francisco, February 18, 2025 – X blocks Signal.me links, triggering censorship allegations and privacy concerns amid speculation of political motives.

Social platform X (formerly Twitter) has blocked all links to Signal.me, a key tool for sharing encrypted contacts on the Signal app. Users attempting to share Signal.me links via posts, DMs, or bios are met with error messages, sparking an uproar over censorship and privacy rights.

Notably, other Signal URLs, such as Signal.org or Signal.group, remain unaffected, further fueling suspicions that the block is targeted.

Cybersecurity researcher Tommy Mysk, who first discovered the issue, stated:

Adding to the drama, journalist Matt Binder noted that Signal is widely used by whistleblowers, including federal employees, to report alleged misconduct by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This has fueled speculation that the ban is politically motivated, though X has remained silent.

The censorship backlash is heating up, with privacy advocates calling the move a direct attack on secure communication channels. Digital rights activist Emma Reed, warning that restricting encrypted services undermines user privacy.

Despite the uproar, existing Signal.me links posted before the block remain clickable, though users see a warning about potential security risks.

X’s Signal link block shows how easily secure communication can be restricted, ExpressVPN keeps your private conversations truly private, beyond platform control.
