The international nonprofit journalist organization WikiLeaks has recently disclosed sensitive data of over hundred of innocent citizens including sick, mentally ill patients and rape victims.
An AP (Associated Press) report says that the popular whistleblower has struck citizens’ data privacy by exposing name, contact number and address details of victims. Moreover, the site has disclosed sensitive information of people including their family, financial and personal details.
The site has uncovered identities of rape victims and shared details of a Saudi citizen who was arrested for being gay.
The expose poses life threat to the man as Saudi Arabia conducts capital punishment for homosexuality. In addition to this, another man from KSA has been exposed for having a Parenthood dispute with a former partner.
“They published everything: my phone, address, name, details. If the family of my wife saw this. Publishing personal stuff like that could destroy people.”
Victim’s Statement to Associated Press
Surprisingly, the AP report claims that the Saudi diplomatic cables hold over 124 medical files, having information about devastatingly ill children, refugees and patients with psychiatric disorders.
Other cases include secret marriages, divorces, personal debts and men who had married women with STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease).
The AP has not named the victims but confirmed the leaks by contacting exposed victims in Saudi Arabia. Surprisingly, a majority of the victims were not even aware about the leaks, as WikiLeaks is blocked in Saudi Arabia.
However, WikiLeaks has responded to AP report with an official tweet:
