Athens, October 23, 2024 —Vodafone demands a cybersecurity overhaul in Greece, citing major weaknesses and fragmented policies. Proposals align with the NIS2 Directive and aim to boost resilience.
Vodafone Greece is calling for a dramatic overhaul of the country’s cybersecurity policies, citing serious vulnerabilities and fragmented strategies that expose citizens and businesses to digital threats.
Partnering with the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), Vodafone presented a bold set of cybersecurity reforms to Michalis Bletsas, Governor of the National Cybersecurity Authority.
The proposals aim to align Greece’s digital defenses with the European NIS2 Directive and address critical gaps in policy, public-private collaboration, and security awareness.
According to public surveys conducted by Metron Analysis, a majority of Greek businesses and individuals remain unaware of how to respond to evolving cyber threats.
The findings are clear; there is a widespread lack of cybersecurity culture in the workforce, which puts sensitive data at significant risk. We need legislative action and public engagement to ensure our digital infrastructure is resilient and protected.
The call for reform follows a recent roundtable discussion at the Delphi Economic Forum’s Center for Cybersecurity, where experts emphasized the urgency of reshaping the current cybersecurity framework. The Vodafone-ELIAMEP initiative targets a holistic approach, focusing on prevention, resilience, and rapid response to breaches.
These recommendations come at a pivotal time, as we refine our policies to meet the stringent requirements of the NIS2 Directive. Implementing these changes will strengthen our digital economy.
The initiative also highlights the need for specialized staff training and increased public awareness to combat cybercriminals. With mounting pressure on lawmakers, Greece must prioritize robust cybersecurity measures to protect its future in the digital age.
