March 3, 2025 – A terrifying new cyber threat is sweeping across the globe as the Vo1d botnet has now infected 1.59 million Android TV devices across 226 countries. Cybercriminals are using these hijacked devices for fraud, cyberattacks, and even large-scale proxy networks—and the infection rate is skyrocketing daily.
The Vo1d botnet is spreading at an alarming rate, with 800,000 new infections occurring every day. Countries like India, Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia have been hit the hardest, with India alone seeing an 18-fold increase in cases.
QiAnXin XLab, a cybersecurity research team warns:
This botnet is evolving at an unprecedented pace. Its stealth capabilities and encryption make it nearly impossible to detect or stop.
The malware exploits vulnerabilities in off-brand Android TVs, using a backdoor to secretly download malicious software and connect the infected devices to a global cybercrime network.
The biggest concern? Users don’t even realize their TVs are infected. The malware runs silently in the background, using hijacked devices for click fraud, ad scams, and even launching cyberattacks. A security analyst Mark Dawson warns:
Vo1d isn’t just a botnet. It’s an army of infected smart devices under criminal control. And it’s growing by the day.
Cybersecurity experts urge users to update their devices, avoid unofficial firmware, and use strong network security tools to minimize the risk.
