February 14, 2025 –This Valentine’s Day, cybercriminals are scamming online shoppers with fake gift websites mimicking trusted brands like Amazon. Stay cautious, verify sites, and protect your data!
This Valentine’s Day, while millions rush to buy romantic gifts online, cybercriminals are exploiting love for profit, setting up fake websites that lure unsuspecting shoppers into scams.
According to a recent warning from Kaspersky, scammers have created fraudulent websites offering irresistible deals on engagement rings, flowers, and tech gifts like Apple products.
A particularly dangerous scam mimics Amazon, tricking users into entering their login credentials, which are then stolen and used for account takeovers and further phishing attacks. Olga Svistunova, Security Expert at Kaspersky said:
Holiday time is always marked with a large number of scams. Fraudsters adapt quickly to trends.
Valentine’s Day shoppers searching for the perfect gift are being targeted through spam emails and social media ads promising massive discounts. Once users enter their personal and banking information, they risk identity theft, unauthorized charges, and financial loss.
Svistunova emphasized, urging consumers to be vigilant.
Verifying website addresses and avoiding suspicious links is crucial.
Kaspersky advises shoppers to verify URLs, avoid entering sensitive information on untrusted platforms, and use comprehensive cybersecurity software for safe transactions.
