USAA, a trusted financial institution serving military members and their families, suffered a massive data breach in May 2021, compromising the personal details of approximately 22,600 customers.
Stolen information reportedly included social security numbers, banking details, and other sensitive data. While USAA denies any wrongdoing, it has agreed to a $3.25 million settlement to resolve the allegations. A cybersecurity analyst Mark Reynolds said:

Emails and letters were sent to affected customers containing a claimant ID and confirmation code. If you received one, you may be entitled to compensation, but the clock is ticking. The deadline to file a claim is April 7, 2025, with the final settlement hearing scheduled for May 21, 2025.
Those eligible could receive a payout, though the exact amount will depend on the number of claims submitted. In previous class-action settlements of this nature, individual payouts have ranged from $10 to $50. A consumer rights attorney Emily Carter said:
Financial institutions must do better. This settlement is a wake-up call.
