Washington D.C., March 7, 2025 –The US DOJ charges 12 Chinese hackers for cyber espionage, exposing China’s hacker-for-hire network. National security at risk, investigation intensifies.
The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has unmasked a covert Chinese hacking operation, indicting 12 Chinese nationals for conducting cyber espionage and state-sponsored attacks against the US government, businesses, and activists.
The suspects, including two officers from China’s Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and eight employees of the tech firm i-Soon, allegedly infiltrated critical sectors such as defense, healthcare, and communications, stealing sensitive data and trade secrets. Acting US Attorney Matthew Podolsky said:
This is a direct assault on US national security. These hackers worked under China’s protection, targeting government agencies, journalists, and human rights groups.
The indictment unveils China’s elaborate hacker-for-hire model, where cybercriminals operate under government orders, breaching networks and selling stolen data.
Among the targeted entities were:
✔ US federal and state agencies
✔ A religious group previously active in China
✔ Major news outlets critical of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
✔ Foreign ministries in Taiwan, India, South Korea, and Indonesia
The Chinese Ministry of Public Security has been funding hackers to silence critics and steal information.
The FBI has issued arrest warrants for the suspects, offering up to $10 million in rewards for information leading to their capture.
