Montreal, January 7, 2025A hacker breaches ICAO, exposing 42,000 sensitive records. Critical data, including government emails, now on sale. UN agency launches investigation.

A hacker, allegedly linked to previous high-profile attacks, claims to have breached the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), exposing sensitive personal data of over 42,000 individuals. The ICAO, a United Nations agency responsible for coordinating international air travel, is now under scrutiny as it investigates this alarming incident.

The breach, announced on a public hacking forum, includes names, addresses, emails, employment details, and even emergency contacts. Disturbingly, it also contains records on criminal history and willingness to travel—critical data ICAO collects for its operations.

According to the hacker, this treasure trove of data is being sold for just a few euros. “We take this matter very seriously and have implemented immediate security measures,” an ICAO spokesperson confirmed, adding that the agency is conducting a “comprehensive investigation.”

The hacker, known as natohub,” has previously targeted U.S. government agencies and the UN itself. The breach also includes 1,661 government email addresses and 148 emails linked to Australia, a major participant in ICAO’s operations. A cybersecurity expert Emma Langley said:

This isn’t ICAO’s first security crisis. A 2016 attack linked to a Chinese group also compromised its servers, raising concerns about repeated vulnerabilities in global aviation networks.
