King County, WA, January 7, 2025 — T-Mobile faces a $2M lawsuit from Washington State over a data breach exposing 2M residents’ info. The AG alleges years of cybersecurity neglect.
T-Mobile is in hot water after Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a $2 million lawsuit against the telecom giant for a massive data breach that exposed the sensitive information of over 2 million residents. The breach, which occurred due to alleged negligence, compromised names, addresses, and Social Security numbers of 183,406 Washingtonians.
The lawsuit claims T-Mobile ignored critical cybersecurity vulnerabilities for years, violating Washington’s Consumer Protection Act. Ferguson emphasized:
This significant data breach was entirely avoidable. T-Mobile had years to fix key vulnerabilities in its cybersecurity systems—and it failed.
The breach affected over 79 million people nationwide, highlighting a systemic failure in safeguarding consumer data. Despite promoting itself as a leader in data protection, T-Mobile now faces demands for transparency and stricter cybersecurity measures.
Ferguson seeks civil penalties, customer restitution, and immediate improvements in T-Mobile’s security practices. The Bellevue-based company has yet to comment on the lawsuit, but affected consumers are calling for accountability. Sarah Johnson, a Seattle resident, remarked:
We trusted T-Mobile with our most personal information. This betrayal is unacceptable.
