Bellevue, November 28, 2024-T-Mobile blocks a cyberattack originating from a wireline network, preventing breaches and showcasing robust security measures amidst escalating telecom cyber threats.
In a stunning revelation, T-Mobile has confirmed thwarting a sophisticated cyberattack originating from a wireline provider’s network. This chilling event exposed the alarming vulnerabilities in wireline connectivity, but thanks to T-Mobile’s robust defenses, no sensitive data was compromised, and the attackers were stopped in their tracks.
Simply put, our defenses worked as designed. From layered network security to rapid action, we prevented further breaches and ensured customer data stayed secure.
The attackers reportedly used discovery commands on routers to map T-Mobile’s network. The telecom giant cut off access to the wireline provider’s network, limiting the attackers’ ability to move laterally.
While T-Mobile refrained from attributing the attack to a specific group, their findings have been shared with U.S. authorities.
This comes on the heels of a broader wave of cyberattacks targeting U.S. telecom companies, including Verizon and AT&T, with suspected links to the China-affiliated group Salt Typhoon.
We are the first to disclose such an incident. Other providers may be experiencing different outcomes.
T-Mobile’s proactive measures highlight the need for constant vigilance as attackers evolve their methods to probe and exploit vulnerabilities.
