San Francisco, January 13, 2025 – A data breach at STIIIZY exposed over 400K customer IDs, including government documents and transaction histories. Customers are urged to stay vigilant.
In a shocking turn of events, STIIIZY, a leading California-based cannabis brand, has revealed a massive data breach affecting over 400,000 customers. The breach, which infiltrated the company’s point-of-sale (POS) vendor, has exposed sensitive data, including government IDs, passport numbers, and purchase histories.
The breach was first detected in November 2024, but the full scale of the attack has only now been disclosed. Customers of four California stores—two in San Francisco, one in Alameda, and one in Modesto—are impacted.
Everest, a notorious ransomware group, has claimed responsibility, alleging they stole troves of private information. The compromised data includes driver’s licenses, medicinal cannabis cards, photographs, and even transaction records, sparking widespread fear among affected users.
This is a betrayal of trust. I entrusted them with my personal information, and now it’s in the hands of cybercriminals.
STIIIZY has assured the public that additional security measures are now in place and is offering free credit monitoring for those affected. However, cybersecurity experts urge customers to stay alert. Analyst Mark Delaney warned:
With data this sensitive, phishing scams and identity theft are imminent threats.
The breach not only jeopardizes customer privacy but also raises questions about the cannabis industry’s data security standards. For now, STIIIZY users are advised to monitor their financial accounts and stay cautious of unsolicited emails.
