Phoenix, February 25, 2025 –SimonMed Imaging is being sued after a major data breach exposed 132K patient records. Victims may face identity theft and fraud risks.
SimonMed Imaging is facing a federal class-action lawsuit after a catastrophic data breach exposed the sensitive medical records of 132,000 patients. The lawsuit, filed by lead plaintiff Rosemary Hammermaster, accuses the Arizona-based medical imaging company of negligence, failure to implement proper security measures, and violating federal privacy laws.
Hackers gained access to a treasure trove of private patient data, including names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, diagnostic images, and test results.
Security experts warn that stolen medical records are worth more than credit card details on the dark web, often fueling identity theft, insurance fraud, and blackmail schemes.
A cybersecurity analyst Nathaniel Morales said:
This is a gross failure to protect patient privacy. Medical records can’t just be reset like a password once they’re stolen, they’re out forever.
The lawsuit also alleges that SimonMed delayed notifying victims, potentially giving cybercriminals a head start in exploiting stolen identities. A data privacy attorney Mike Herrington said:
Patients trusted SimonMed with their most personal health information. Instead, they’ve been left vulnerable to cybercriminals with no real recourse.
SimonMed has yet to confirm how hackers breached their systems, but legal experts predict hefty financial penalties if the lawsuit succeeds.
