Russian Spy Agency Alleged For Hacking DNC Servers

Russia: It has been unveiled that the servers of Democratic National Committee were hacked by the hackers from “Russian GRU”. The hackers gained access to opposition’s research on Donald Trump and other key Republican presidential candidates. The breached data was later exposed anonymously on media platforms including Gawker.

The DNC has claimed that according to the initial assessments, the attack was conducted by hackers from Russia. However, in a statement rife, a lone hacker namely “Guccifer 2.0” has taken the responsibility for the hack and claimed to do it alone.

However, multiple cyber security firms have confirmed that Guccifer was just a front face, and the attack was originated from the Russian government. Moreover, the hack was carried out by a cyber espionage group APT28, which serves to be an apparatus of the Russian GRU.

Cyber security firms including Fidelis Cybersecurity and Mandiant have confirmed the Crowd Strike’s claim that Russian hackers are responsible for the hacking attempt. In addition to this, Russian GRU has been alleged for conducting various attacks in the past as well including the hack of an unclassified US military network last year. However, it is still unclear about how many files have been exploited from the DNC’s hacked servers.
