SUDBURY, March 3, 2025 – In a shocking cyberattack on the Rainbow District School Board, hackers accessed sensitive student, staff, and parent data—but now, officials claim the stolen information has been “deleted and not shared.”
The breach, which took critical systems offline for days, affected data as far back as 2010, including student records, employee files, and even school photos. While the board assures the public that the stolen data is gone, cybersecurity experts remain skeptical.
The Rainbow District School Board insists that hackers have erased the stolen files, but without independent verification, concerns remain. A cybersecurity analyst Mark Davidson.
Hackers don’t just steal data to delete it—it’s often sold, traded, or held for ransom. Without concrete proof, the risk isn’t truly gone.
The school board, however, maintains confidence in the resolution. A board spokesperson stated:
We have received confirmation that the data was deleted and has not been shared. We continue to monitor and strengthen our network security.
Many parents and former employees are now questioning whether their personal data is safe. Some are demanding an independent audit to confirm the claims.
