Charlotte, December 11, 2024 –Nucor Corporation’s data breach settlement offers victims up to $8,250 in payouts for losses. The 2023 hack compromised sensitive employee information.
Nucor Corporation, one of America’s leading steel producers, has reached a settlement to compensate victims of a devastating 2023 data breach. The breach exposed sensitive personal information, including bank details and Social Security numbers, of thousands of employees.
Victims can now claim up to $8,250 in cash benefits, depending on their losses. Between May 26 and June 1, 2023, hackers infiltrated Nucor’s systems, compromising confidential data. Affected individuals began receiving notifications in June 2023, sparking outrage and fear.
I trusted my employer to protect my information. This breach has caused me immense stress and financial losses.
The settlement provides two tiers of compensation. Class members can claim up to $750 for documented expenses like bank fees or credit monitoring costs. Those with significant losses, such as identity theft, can receive up to $7,500. Additionally, all victims are eligible for two years of free credit monitoring services.
Gary Klinger, one of the class counsel attorneys stated:
This case underscores the critical importance of corporate cybersecurity. Protecting employee data is not optional; it’s a responsibility.
Nucor denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to resolve the lawsuit. The final approval hearing is scheduled for January 13, 2025, and victims must submit claims by December 30, 2024.
