In a shocking turn of events, MGM Resorts International has agreed to pay a staggering $45 million in settlements after two devastating cyberattacks compromised the personal data of 37 million guests and crippled its hotel operations.
The 2019 breach leaked sensitive customer data, including names, addresses, and phone numbers, fueling identity theft fears. The 2023 hack was even more catastrophic, shutting down MGM’s digital infrastructure, crashing slot machines, ATMs, and check-in systems, and leaving guests stranded with inoperable room keys.

The class-action lawsuit, filed in Nevada’s U.S. District Court, will compensate affected customers with up to $15,000 for documented losses, or tiered payouts of $75, $50, or $20 based on the severity of exposure. Victims will also receive one year of free financial monitoring.
Tonya Owens, the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit warned:

MGM has denied any wrongdoing but settled the case to avoid prolonged litigation. Claims must be filed by June 3, 2025, while objections or opt-outs are due by May 19, 2025.
