January 13, 2025Medusind breach exposes 360K+ patient records, including IDs, medical histories, and financial info. Victims urged to activate identity monitoring services.

In a shocking revelation, Medusind, a healthcare revenue cycle management provider, disclosed a major data breach that exposed sensitive information of over 360,000 individuals. The breach has sent shockwaves across the healthcare sector, given the nature of data compromised, including medical records, Social Security numbers, and financial details.

The breach occurred in December 2023, with Medusind detecting suspicious activity on its network on December 29. Investigations revealed that cybercriminals obtained files containing personal data such as health insurance details, prescription records, driver’s license numbers, and medical histories.

Medusind, which supports over 6,000 healthcare providers across 12 locations in the US and India, acted swiftly by shutting down systems, hiring forensic experts, and notifying affected individuals.

To mitigate the fallout, the company is offering two years of free identity monitoring services through Kroll, which includes credit monitoring and fraud consultation. Lawrence Pingree, Vice President at Dispersive said:

The Medusind breach adds to a growing list of alarming healthcare data leaks, including recent incidents affecting Ascension (5.6 million records) and UnitedHealth (100 million records).
