Beijing, February 25, 2025 – Leaked documents expose China’s Censorship-as-a-Service” industry, revealing how TopSec helps the CCP monitor and suppress online speech.
A shocking data leak has exposed China’s growing censorship machine, revealing that cybersecurity firm TopSec is providing Censorship-as-a-Service” (CaaS) to government agencies and private enterprises.
The leaked documents detail TopSec’s role in suppressing political dissent, manipulating online discourse, and enforcing digital surveillance at the request of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The leak, analyzed by SentinelLabs, reveals that TopSec developed sophisticated monitoring tools, including a censorship platform called Sparta, used to flag and suppress “sensitive content” on news sites, social media, and academic institutions. A cybersecurity analyst Nathaniel Morales said:
This leak confirms what many have feared—China is not just censoring its own citizens, but refining censorship tools that could be exported worldwide.
One document exposes direct links between TopSec and China’s Ministry of Public Security, including work on a “Cloud Monitoring Service Project” in Shanghai. Internal logs show TopSec employees tracking political discussions, filtering keywords, and sending alerts to CCP officials.
Experts believe this leak is just the beginning, as China’s AI-driven censorship systems become more advanced. The CCP’s strategy of controlling information is expanding beyond its borders, raising concerns about global internet freedom. A security expert Mike Herrington warned:
China is building a censorship empire. This is about controlling not just their own citizens, but shaping narratives worldwide.
