Krispy Kreme’s online ordering system has been paralyzed by a cyberattack, sending doughnut lovers into chaos just weeks before the holiday rush. The doughnut giant, operating in 35 countries, confirmed that the breach was detected on November 29, with “unauthorized activity” compromising part of its IT infrastructure.
The disruption is expected to significantly impact the company’s business operations, with recovery efforts still underway. While Krispy Kreme assured customers that its stores remain open, the inability to process online orders has left many frustrated. cybersecurity expert Graham Cluley said:

The incident coincides with a surge in ransomware attacks targeting retail and hospitality sectors. According to the Retail & Hospitality Information Sharing and Analysis Center, ransomware accounted for 26% of reported cyber incidents last holiday season, doubling from the previous year.
Industry analysts warn this trend shows no signs of slowing. Krispy Kreme has engaged federal law enforcement and top cybersecurity firms to mitigate the attack. The company holds cybersecurity insurance expected to cover part of the recovery costs but acknowledged the long-term effects remain uncertain.
Even if systems are restored, stolen data could still be used maliciously.
As Krispy Kreme works to recover, the attack highlights the growing vulnerability of retailers during peak seasons. Shares of Krispy Kreme fell 3% in New York trading, underscoring investor concerns.
