Tax-preparation giant H&R Block faces a federal class-action lawsuit after a data breach exposed sensitive information of more than 23,000 people over nearly three months. The breach, which compromised names, Social Security numbers, financial account details, and tax data, has left customers reeling and questioning the company’s data security practices.
The lawsuit, led by plaintiff William Buehring, accuses H&R Block of negligence under federal and industry standards, including the Federal Trade Commission Act and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. According to the complaint, the company failed to implement reasonable and adequate” security measures, leaving customers vulnerable to identity theft.
