Astonishingly, this same group is linked to high-profile cyberattacks, including an attempt to disrupt the upcoming Paris Olympics. Brain Cipher initially gained notoriety in June 2024 after targeting Indonesia’s government systems and French museums.
Their recent attack on Rhode Island’s IT system for health and benefits programs utilized sophisticated malware to access and encrypt data. When negotiations with Deloitte, the system’s operator, fell through, the hackers leaked sensitive information, including Social Security numbers, on the dark web.
