Authorities have arrested two individuals concerning a sophisticated smishing scam that utilized a “text message blaster” to send thousands of fake messages posing as banks and official organizations. These smishing messages targeted unsuspecting public members, marking an unprecedented use of an illegitimate telephone mast in UK.

In what is considered the first case in the UK, the perpetrators allegedly used an illegitimate telephone mast as an “SMS blaster.” This device allowed them to bypass mobile phone network systems designed to block suspicious text messages, reaching a wide audience with their fraudulent communications.
