San Francisco, January 15, 2025 — Google retires the Web Vitals extension, integrating all features into DevTools. Developers gain powerful tools for Core Web Vitals and advanced site diagnostics.

Google has officially retired its widely-used Web Vitals Chrome extension, shifting all its features into the DevTools Performance panel. With the release of Chrome 132, nearly 200,000 users of the extension must now migrate to DevTools, which promises a more powerful and centralized solution for monitoring Core Web Vitals.

Dylan Curry, a web performance expert said:

DevTools now boasts real-time Core Web Vitals data, detailed breakdowns of metrics like Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), and logs for Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) and Interaction to Next Paint (INP). It even includes diagnostic metrics such as Time to First Byte (TTFB) and First Contentful Paint (FCP).

Google’s Chrome team in an official statement:

For developers hesitant to migrate, Google has provided a migration guide and temporary instructions for maintaining a local copy of the extension. However, users are urged to transition as the CrUX API key for field data integration may soon expire.

The retirement of the Web Vitals extension highlights Google’s commitment to making DevTools the ultimate tool for site performance monitoring and optimization.
