Washington, D.C., March 14, 2025 –A cybercriminal falsely claimed to breach DOGE, creating mass panic. The so-called leak” was already public, exposing the dangers of disinformation in cybersecurity.
The cybersecurity world is in turmoil after a false data breach claim targeting the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) went viral.
A threat actor known as Kettoking” falsely claimed to have leaked a 200MB database containing sensitive employee information. However, security experts quickly debunked the claim, revealing that the data was already publicly available.
The fraudulent breach announcement appeared on a popular hacking forum, with Kettoking attempting to sell the stolen” data. The leaked information included employee names and emails, but cybersecurity experts quickly called out the deception.
Cyber researcher Dark Web Informer dismissed the claim:
That’s not a leak. This data has been public for ages. This is just fear-mongering.
The fake breach comes amid heated political controversy surrounding DOGE. Lawmakers are demanding transparency regarding Elon Musk’s alleged role in the agency, with conflicting statements from Trump and White House officials adding to the confusion.
Cybersecurity analyst Alejandra Caraballo warned:
