Kirkland, WA – March 20, 2025 –A ruthless cyberattack on Lake Washington Vascular has exposed 21,000 patients’ medical data, shutting down operations. Victims face identity theft risks.
A devastating cyberattack has rattled Lake Washington Vascular, a leading vascular care provider, compromising the sensitive medical records of over 21,000 patients. The clinic was forced to halt operations after hackers infiltrated its network, deploying malware that encrypted its systems.
The attack, discovered on February 14, 2025, exposed patients’ names, addresses, medical histories, diagnostic test results, government IDs, and payer identification numbers. The clinic confirmed that hackers had unrestricted access to confidential files before the breach was detected.
A spokesperson for Lake Washington Vascular said:
This is a nightmare for our patients. We are working around the clock to secure our systems and notify those affected.
Cybersecurity experts warn that stolen health data is a goldmine for criminals, leading to identity theft, insurance fraud, and even medical blackmail.
In response, the clinic has initiated an emergency investigation and has begun sending breach notification letters to victims. However, patients remain vulnerable as the attack has crippled essential operations.
We trusted them with our health records, and now we feel completely exposed.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights is investigating the attack, as similar breaches have surged across the country. Cybercrime in the healthcare sector has seen a 237% increase in the past two years, raising urgent concerns about patient data security.
