Atlanta, GA, December 16, 2024Cyble’s report reveals a spike in IoT vulnerabilities, malware, and phishing scams, urging immediate action to secure devices against rising cyber threats.

A surge in Internet of Things (IoT) vulnerabilities has been revealed in the latest Cyble Sensor Intelligence Report, warning of a critical rise in cyber threats targeting connected devices.

From malware attacks to financial fraud, the report highlights the growing risks posed to businesses and individuals alike. The report identifies a sharp increase in exploitation attempts against IoT systems, leveraging flaws in platforms like Mirai and Gafgyt malware.

According to Cyble, hackers are gaining unauthorized access to IoT devices, using them to manipulate critical systems and conduct large-scale cyber operations.

One of the key findings was the rise of the AppLite Banker Trojan, a malware targeting financial credentials through phishing campaigns. A cybersecurity analyst Lisa Morgan noted:

Vulnerabilities in software like Cisco ASA and Telerik UI were also highlighted, along with CVEs like CVE-2020-11899 and the infamous Log4j flaw. These vulnerabilities are actively exploited by hackers, with tens of thousands of attacks detected during the reporting period.

IoT devices remain a prime target. Michael Hughes, a cybersecurity consultant warned:

Cyble emphasizes patching software, enabling multi-factor authentication, and isolating IoT devices through network segmentation to combat these growing threats. The report serves as a stark reminder for organizations to stay vigilant and adopt proactive defenses.
