San Francisco, CA, December 17, 2024AI-powered Nomani scam skyrockets 335%, exploiting social media ads and phishing sites to trick victims into massive financial losses.

Cybersecurity researchers have sounded the alarm on a new AI-powered scam, dubbed “Nomani”, which has surged by an alarming 335% in recent months.

This scam exploits social media ads and AI-generated video testimonials to lure victims into fraudulent investments, leading to devastating financial and data losses.

According to ESET’s latest Threat Report, the Nomani scam operates through fake ads on platforms like Facebook, Messenger, and Threads.

Using AI technology, scammers create video testimonials featuring famous personalities and use phishing websites that mimic legitimate news outlets or crypto platforms.

Victims are enticed with promises of massive returns, only to be manipulated into handing over sensitive data or investing in non-existent products. A cybersecurity analyst David Richards warned:

Once victims provide their contact information, cybercriminals directly call them, convincing them to invest further, take out loans, or even install remote access apps. The gathered data is also used to launch further attacks, leaving victims vulnerable to identity theft.

ESET’s report attributes the scam to Russian-speaking threat actors, who are leveraging advanced tools like Yandex analytics and fake Meta accounts to fuel their operations.
